Preaching at Eastside in Bowling Green August 25th-29th 08-25-08 03:16pm CST
Hey everybody,

I am so excited about my opportunity to preach in Bowling Green this week. If you are in the area, I would love to get to meet you. Stop by one of our assemblies.

We'll be meeting at the building for the Eastside Church of Christ in Bowling Green, KY each night this week at 7 pm.

Topics:
Monday: 11 Ways to Be an Unremarkably Average Christian
Tuesday: Our Relationships with God
Wednesday: Does Jesus Care About You?
Thursday: Jesus and the Scriptures
Friday: Worth a Son

I'm looking forward to meeting more brothers and sisters this week.

May God richly bless you as you draw closer to Him,
more importantly, may you richly bless God.
dandegarmoGod be with your service!
madtomkiddIf we were going to drive that far, we would probably go ahead and drive a few more miles to see the rest of your family. We'd love to hear your lessons, but we'll have to wait until you're closer!

I'm sure your expression of the word will bear much fruit.
lindzeereedThese sound like really interesting topics. I wish I could be there!
ektustinHe'll be at Laurel Canyon in the fall of 2009. We can't wait!
71lespaulcustomMonday's lesson title is quite intriguing... mind sharing your notes (email address is on my page). Thanks!
angiemann73I wish I could be there! I worshipped at East Side when I was at WKU many many moons ago (ok - 15 years ago)
farmerIt has been a wonderful week so far. I can't believe there are only two nights left.
cruisingmomThanks for you post in the 'Worship' group about worship. I'm with the it is not a scheduled 10-12 on Sunday thing, but was not ready to say EVERYTHING is worship or it equals our obedience. Thanks again for your clarity.
cruisingmomWish I was closer to Bowling Green to attend the meeting. A bonus would be seeing Greg and his family.

The doctor has allowed him to start walking. I think it is a slow process, but he'll get there.

Thanks for all your continued prayers.
friedajThanks for updating us at intervals. I was thinking of him yesterday and quite a bit this past week.

Excerpt from my upcoming book 08-20-08 06:36pm CST
Hey guys, check out an excerpt from my upcoming book

Getting to Did: How to Lose Your Big "But" and Live a Life without Regret

I have it on my other blog.

Check it out HERE

Let me know what you think.

Thanks
wondercatGreat book. I recommend it. Hey Edwin, when are you thinking about releasing it?
preacherdavetxLooks interesting. I've been told by the likes of Tony Mauck, Max Dawson, and Kris Emerson that we are look a likes. I think I may have met you once at a gospel meeting. But I've always heard great things about your work. Your reputation for thoughtful study, deep meditation, and powerful communication precedes you. God Bless you in your work. And I plan to follow it better as I have found you on here.
adampualgood stuff, thanks for the thoughts!
patermagisterCasey, I'm in the process of finding an editor for it and then cover design. Hopefully by the end of the year I'll have it on the shelf.

I think I'm going to do it as a hardback first. That will be my first hardback and my first secular book all rolled into one.
terryfrancisSo should we be looking for great graphics/pictures of big butts for the cover?

And I can see the release party/autograph session now complete with sandwiches by the foot and Sir Mix-a-lot blaring in the background.
overtoneHey man we need to make Canton cry like a baby!
crozierbombHey Edwin why dont you send your bro a copy. I can read now

Single Assembly Report 08-18-08 03:00pm CST
Hello everyone,

As people were so interested when I reported that we were going to one assembly at Franklin, I thought I would give a report about our first attempt yesterday.

Personally, I thought it was great.

Here is what I liked about it:

1) I was able to focus on each aspect of our assembly without being worried about the clock and trying to get it all in under an hour.

2) Even though we had the same number of prayers as we did in our two assemblies, I felt like we actually devoted more time to prayer. We didn't get two opening prayers and two closing prayers. We had an opening prayer and a closing prayer. In between we had two prayers that were there just to be devoted to prayer. I loved that.

3) We didn't rush through the serving of the Supper. Rather, we were free to take some time and wait between the emblems to give everyone, whether they sit in the front or the back, time to think about what they were doing.

4) Nobody left during the break. This may not hold true every Sunday, but I really feared several would leave during the break we had in the middle of our assembly. To my knowledge no one did (not even our traveling visitors).

5) My family and I were able to go home, get some stuff done and then get together at some other folks house for just some good time together. We spent 4 1/2 hours together with them, eating, playing games, visiting, talking about our new assembly, etc. We didn't have to rush through it to get back for our evening assembly or get home quick because of school.

I have no doubt this set up may not work for every congregation. Right now, I'm very thankful it is working for us.

I think most everyone was pleased. Like I said to another preacher in the area, we get to spend more time praying, more time singing, more time on the Lord's Supper. The only thing we have less of is preaching. Thus, everyone is happy. ;-)

May God richly bless you as you draw closer to Him.
More importantly, may you richly bless God.

tom_bombadilThat sounds really wonderful.
arsenalWhat is there not to be pleased about? I've advocated what you are doing many times. So far no takers.
mjaldadWe changed to one service almost 2 years ago. I was a little unsure about it at first but it quickly grew on me. It seems that we are closer as a congregation because of the extra time we have to spend in one another's homes.
mreid72Glad to hear it went so well. Hope it continues!
71lespaulcustomVery cool!
curlieNice. :)
markrobertsglad to hear it is working well!
coultersounds like the same as what has happened down here. I love the extra time just being with brethren after the service vs. rushed afternoons or hurried late evenings.
dandegarmoI wouldn't have it any other way....glad it is working well for your church family.
tommygirlAwesome...I'm glad you've found it to be a good thing.
cruisingmomWooHoo! More time contemplating our Lord and more time spent with brethren. Sounds like a perfect day. I so wish where I assemble would consider this again. We tried it for a few weeks but some were 'uncomfortable' with the change.
madtomkiddWe do tend to have a few folks leave during our break, but - except for rare weeks - the vast majority stay for the entire assembly time.
norriejI'm so glad that it worked out for you!! Wish we could go to that!! Though, Brian wouldn't get to worship at all. I love it when we have the 2:00 service once a month. We worship, go eat, and come right back!! Very cool!!
bahI like this idea.
emersonk78Hey Edwin, it's Kris Emerson. Nice to find you on the Pleoverse. Enjoyed your work the other night in Maur. I really took to heart and build a lesson around "Make no provision" and many of the points you made. Great seeing you. Oh, and enjoy the end of those Sunday afternoon Football games. The rest of us will continue to lean on DVR.
