School v. Prison ... not what you think!

Why is it that our children can't read a bible in school, but they can in prison?

THINK

I used the word "ponder" a couple of posts back and got a few synonymns: meditate and think. A few other great words are mull and ruminate (roll over in the mind). What ever you call it, do it. (Phil. 4:8)

To My Wife

I had a good lifeBefore you cameI had my friends and my freedomI had my nameStill there was sorrow and emptiness'Til you made me gladOh, in this love I found strength I never knew I hadAnd this loveIs like nothing I have ever knownTake my hand, loveI'm taking you homeI'm taking you homeThere were days, lonely daysWhen the world wouldn't throw me a crumbBut I kept on believingThat this day would comeAnd this loveIs like nothing I have ever knownTake my hand, loveI'm taking you homeI'm taking you—homeWhere we can be with the ones who really careHome, where we can grow togetherKeep you in my heart foreverAnd this loveIs like nothing I have ever knownTake my hand, loveI'm taking you homeTaking you homeAnd this loveIs like nothing I have ever knownTake my hand, loveI'm taking you homeI'm taking you home

November 2, 2008: Chad William Kirby is 21!

Where do the years go? It seems a short time ago that I was interrupted in class by my department head saying that Anita is ready to go to the hospital. Gathering up my things I ran quickly to the car on a freshly broken toe to get home and get Anita to the hospital. Less than three hours later I got the call in the waiting room: "Mr. Kirby, you have a screaming baby boy." Chad's birth was my only experience not in the room with Anita, so I knew how fathers of old felt.He has grown into a man. I love him and am proud of him!

Psalm 119:71, "It is good for me that I have been afflicted that I might learn your statutes" is one of my favorite Psalms. Ponder it!

We're Living In the Commercial

An oldtime friend of mine used to say this, meaning that this lifetime, in the overall perspective of our existence is like the commercial of a television show: short and not the significant part. This combines two biblical principles: "Our life is a vapor" (Ja 4:14) and "Set your mind on things above" (Col 3:2). Unfortunately, this friend of mine, a groomsman at Anita and my wedding, is, to my knowledge no longer faithful. Hopefully before it is too late he will again realize that we are living in the commercial. We should always remember this.

Want to improve your gas milage?

I suppose that everyone does, but there is a cost involved...pride! For the last two months I have been accelarating very slowly, keeping my engine RPM under 3000. If you goose it, the RPM will go to between 5000 and 6000. I have seen an increase of about 2 miles more per gallon. If you don't have a tachometer, just use your judgment to not let the engine rev up too much. Also, don't resume your cruise control when your speed is far below the speed for which the cruise is set. It will rev up quickly to reach it.You may have to drive on the shoulder a short while for drivers to pass you, and this is where your pride comes in! I had a student comment that he saw me and that I was driving like an old man!! By the way, it IS legal to drive on the shoulder for a right turn or to allow traffic to pass, but make sure that you can see far enough ahead that the shoulder is clear.Happy driving!

Okay, try the following explanation!

Because of some confusion on my last post, let me try again. Suppose you are listening to the radio or watching TV and an ad comes on and says "to take advantage of this offer call 1-800-123-4567". So you pick up your cell phone and dial 18001234567. What will happen? You will NOT get who you are dialing but rather get a non-working number as this is not the number; 800-1233-4567 is the number. The first 1 was needed when all calls were made from land lines. They should say "call 800-123-4567". You know that if you are using a land line you must dial 1 first.

Call 1-800-123-4567

Why do people still say this? The phone number is 800-123-4567. The 1 is needed if you call on a land line. How often do you do that anymore?
