Money, money, money!

Though the air and water temperatures down at the lake weren't super warm this weekend, we headed down Friday afternoon to play (well, actually, we were supposed to be cleaning up the lake house, getting it ready for the winter), but Mom and Dad are so much better at that than we are. Plus those jetskis needed one final run before sitting all winter and mom is too scared to get on one. Yeah, excuses, I know! Aaron and I had wanted all summer to take the jetskis all the way up the lake (our house is on the far southern end), into Granbury, and even further, just to explore. So, we did that this Saturday morning. Took us 2 hours, my legs felt like I had been riding a horse. Anyway, we saw houses that you could only stare at in amazement. How does one accumulate that much money, especially since these are mostly weekend getaways, not everyday homes? My next question was, who cleans all that space? Ok, if you have that much money, I guess you can afford a maid to come clean on the day...

I've been tagged...

by her and her. I guess resistance is futile, so here goes.1. My childhood dream was to be a pro soccer player...I became a teacher.2. Another dream...purchase and rebuild a 65 Mustang, must be painted candy apple red.3. I'm working on my Master's Degree, sort of. I've completed 9 hours, can't go further w/o taking the GRE, very scary!4. Being a Mom is absolutely the BEST job ever!!!!!5. I could eat Mexican food every day!6. My favorite hobby is spending time at the lake, jetskiing with my girls.7. I'm a perfectionist- a high functioning one, but nonetheless a perfectionist.8. I'm obsessive about moving items around, both at home and in my office. Comes from being a military brat, moving each year, things get boring when they stay the same too long.

When I grow up...

Rachel informed me tonight that she wasn't sure what she wanted to be when she grew up (I didn't know 3 year olds thought about this). Anyway, she said she was thinking about being an astronaut so she could fly into outer space, but first she would become a pilot like her grandaddy and uncle so she would know how to fly the space ship. That's my girl!! Those are admirable goals!! Then, she changed her mind and decided she would be a "pet doctor" and a mom. Great!! Wonderful goals! After a little more time to ponder her future...Mom, I'm going to be an alien dressed liek a clown (I'm thinking this is a strange line of thought...where did I go wrong raising my child?) So I ask why an alien? Because aliens go around scaring people and that sounds like fun.Thankfully, little people change their minds on a daily basis! Maybe tomorrow's career path will be more rewarding!

First Day Tales

I guess I just look like a person that likes to hear complaints...I heard tons, but this was my favorite conversation from a really nutty first day of school.Parent: My daughter is in 4th grade in Ms. So and So's room, she stole 19 of her pencils.Me: Who stole 19 pencils?P: The teacher.Me: (Supressing a laugh, yeah this one's gonna be good!) Ok, how can I help you resolve this?P: I sent 24 pencils with my child and the teacher stole 19 away from her, she says the teacher hid them in a cabinet.Me: That is very normal, teachers don't want students to have to carry around all their pencils so they put them in safe keeping until they are needed. The student has access to them whenever she runs out of the five she received today.P: Do you think my house isn't a safe place to keep pencils?Me: (Again wanting to laugh outloud at the absurdity of this conversation) Sir, Ms. So and So would be glad to return the 19 pencils and you may certainly keep them at home in a safe place.P: You...

Lessons Learned (reinforced) This Week

Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers after this tragic week!My friend/co-worker's murder brought some things to mind:Talk to everyone about God, whenever you can. My last conversation with Eliana involved understanding what God's will is for our lives and following it, even when it may not be convenient for us in other ways. He is in control!Even when it seems like prying, know how your friends are really doing. On the flip side, if something is wrong, share it with someone you love and let them help you. My friend was being abused and almost no one knew it.Anger is strong. I was really angry at her husband. He was sick and needed help. He will answer to God just like the rest of us, I have to let go of that anger.Get involved, help others. I was also angry with her neighbors that saw him fighting with her in the front yard Monday night. They heard "blood curling screams" during the night as well as the gun shots, thinking they were fireworks. Had t...

Where has the summer gone???

While the Texas heat makes me think we are right in the middle of summer, for me summer is almost over. This is my last week of "freedom" from teaching. :( Next week I start having meetings and trainings. Thankfully, most of the time the girls can go with me, so mom doesn't have to babysit too much yet. People say the 3 best things about being in education are "June, July and August". What school are they at? It's just not true anymore.Anyway, on the positive side, I've enjoyed being home each day with my sweet (most of the time) girls!! Hannah actually has a month until school starts, but she is getting excited buying school supplies and uniforms. Last week she was on a backpack and lunchbox hunt. For a 2nd grade girl that is a major fashion decision! I give in to her on those accessories since she has to wear a uniform that is pretty boring. (Side note- I do love the uniforms though, boring or not, because there is no arguing over what she wants to wea...

Mostly Good News for Rachel!

We received Rachel's test results and all biopsies came back normal!!!! Praise GOD!!! The doctor's only concern for now is that the lining of her stomach is very inflammed, and that is probably the source of her pain. Thankfully, he believes the medication he put her on last week to treat the ulcer will also decrease the inflammation. She'll go back the end of August to see how "things" are functioning and we'll go from there. So for now...great news!!!Thank you so much for your prayers!!
