The plan:- Leave Tampa @ 8:30pm Thursday night- Spend Thursday night in Savannah, GA- Arrive in Pittsburgh @ 8:00pm Friday night- Move into apartment Saturday morningThe reality:- Left Tampa @ 8:30pm Thursday night- Drove through parts of tropical storm Fay (not bad, though)- Spent Thursday night in Savannah, GA- Busted Altima's radiator north of Columbia, SC @ noon on Friday- Towed Altima back to Columbia to AAA repair shop- Waited 4-5 hours for car to be repaired- Learned that the wrong radiator had been sent and that it was too late to get the right one that day- Spent Friday night in Columbia- Learned Saturday morning that, even with a new radiator, our engine was the actual problem and would bust the radiator again- Decided to leave Altima in Columbia & found local Christians who could keep the car for us and find a buyer- Repacked all of our luggage into the Camry (a tight fit!) and left the Altima key with AAA to give to the tow truck company- Started to le...

Guys, I'm writing my first blog from my new MacBook. I already love it, but I don't know what I'm doing. If you know anything about Macs, tell me something cool or useful I can do with this thing.I'm still trying to figure out how I ended up on the internet, in fact. There's gotta be a shortcut on here somewhere...

I had five wisdom teeth pulled this morning. Naturally, I wasn't just dying to talk for most of the day, so I communicated quite a bit through text messages. Here are some conversational highlights from yesterday and today:- "Man, tomorrow is going to be like pulling teeth, isn't it?" (my dad)- "No kidding. Wake me when it's over!" (me)- "Are you dead?" (co-worker, today)- "Yes, I was actually just talking to some of your ancestors." (me)- "Oh...were any of them black? That would explain a lot."- "As of today, I am officially less talionis." (me)- "Sounds like you just experienced molar eclipse." (Jady)- "Are you still a little loopy?" (my dad)- "Of course not. The zebras just left half an hour ago. Thanks."

If you don't already know about it, check out DeWard publishing's new book on the Lord's Supper, Beneath the Cross. It has a lot of really helpful essays (and reflections, mind you) by lots of really helpful people, and it's edited by Jady and Nathan.Countdown to Pittsburgh move: 22 days.I can't stress this enough: if you're in Tampa and love cute cats, I am your man. Our only condition is that you be a non-denominational Christian and have at least a Master's degree in your field (wait, that's for something else...never mind).

change as inevitability, inevitability as change

Katie says it's time for an update. In about 2.5 months, Lord willing, Katie and I will be moving to Pittsburgh, PA, along with Kyle Fisher and his soon-to-be wife, Katie Clark. Our primary purpose in making this rather drastic change is to help support a budding work in the East Pittsburgh area, where conservative congregations are sparse. We've been encouraged by the eagerness of the believers in that area, and we're grateful to have been shown an opportunity to shine our lights in a new area. Please mention these Christians in your prayers when you have an opportunity; I'm sure it would be appreciated.I will also begin working on a Master's degree in Economics at Youngstown State University in Youngstown, Ohio (just over the border). It's a 1.5-hour commute from where we'll be living, but I'll only be attending classes two nights a week, so hopefully that won't seem too overwhelming. The biggest variable in the Pittsburgh equation is our job situation. With my teller experi...

Give me the Bible...seriously, hand it over.

I'm not exactly sure what kind of schedule I was expecting to have once I graduated and started working full-time, but it probably involved having most evenings free and not feeling stressed out so much. At the same time, I was a little wistful as I realized that, for the first time in four years, I wouldn't be enrolled in an FC Bible class this semester. Not surprisingly, I was proved wrong about all of that. Not only was I blessed to be able to register for a weekend Hebrew class at FC, but I somehow managed to make my weekly schedule look as busy as it ever did while I was a full-time student. Here's what I've got going on these days:Tuesdays: Jeremiah study with friendsWednesdays: Teaching Romans in high school classThursdays: Ezekiel study with brethren from BrandonFridays: 1 Samuel study with friendsSaturdays: Hebrew class with Mr. PeelerSundays: Teaching college/high school class on worshipI'm thankful that I still have this many opportunities this year to study the...
