Yay - I think this home school thing is working!

I had a couple of proud mom moments today. We were doing our geography lesson and I asked Michaela what body of water was north of Africa and below Italy and Greece. After about a minute, she said "Mediterranean!" I grabbed her and gave her a hug. Then, Alexander was able to tell me about the Black Sea, the Bosporus Strait, and the significance of the Red Sea in bible times. On his map worksheet, just the bare edge of Africa was showing at the bottom and he asked, "Can I go ahead and label this since I know this is Africa?" That's my boy!Later today, without me asking, Alexander unloaded and loaded the dishwasher and then started folding the laundry. I am so blessed. It was a good day.

Fun Weekend!

I was tired of the old post, so I thought I would talk about the weekend. Michaela had a close soccer game Saturday. It was 4-3. After her game, we came home to go to the Sacred Selections fundraiser. It was so much fun! They did a fantastic job! The auctions, silent and live, were a lot of fun. I bid on two items in the silent auction and got one. I got a hat and gloves for Michaela that were knitted by Terra Camp (Sanford). On the live auctions, we bid on a beautiful hand-stitched quilt. For a while, it was between her and us. At one point, someone behind me bid $140, and so I went up to $150, and then I hear, "Jen, that was me that bid $140!" Oh, it was my husband. I told him you've got to tell me these things! Well, anyway, she ended up with it. Hmm, maybe I can borrow it sometime. :)Another item that I bid on was a Dodge racing NASCAR jacket. I was going back and forth with this other guy, but it just got too much for me. He got it for $90. Like Mike said, my ...

Joining in Vintage Thingies Thursday

I used to go to estate sales on a regular basis and these are some things I have picked up:This is a set of books by Shakespeare. You will recognize the familiar titles. These books were published in 1887 and belonged to a man named Willard C. Lee. This next one is one of my favorites. I guess technically it is not "vintage", though. I went to an estate sale of a man that had been a movie set designer. He had all kinds of neat stuff! These crates were used in the movie Dances with Wolves. The bottom crate was used in a scene where Kevin Costner is riding through a town. You can see the crates in the background as he goes by.Okay, so that is my contribution to Vintage Thingies Thursday - go check out her blog for more!

Tuesday Morning Drama at the Kegley Household

It started raining. So, I decided I should go check the very corner of the roof where we had very minor damage from the hurricane. The area is the edge of the roof on the front porch. It overhangs in front of the porch and the wood underneath is rotting and needs to be replaced, so I went to check out the situation. Okay, first I inspect it from the porch. When I look at it, I see there is a hole in the soffit and that the water is draining out. Good. It is probably okay then. Hmm. I better look at it from the angle of the yard. So, I go out into the yard, turn around to look back at the roof, and what do you think I saw. . . There, on my porch, a snake. About 2 feet long. I know what you're thinking - it was on the concrete a few feet away from where I had been standing. No. It was on the brick of my house! HANGING ON THE WALL where the brick meets the wood! At first, I could not see its' tail, so I think the tail was actually inside the gap where the brick and wood meet! Fr...

Cali, The Amazing WonderCat

Well, it has been over a week since Ike came through. Since we were stranded in Florida and couldn't come home, Lindy and Amanda had to take care of our pets, 2 dogs, 1 cat. The family and all the pets stayed in the quanset barn to ride out the storm. During the storm, my brother-in-law opened the door to look outside and Cali ran out and she has not been seen since . . . until today. She came back. Cali is a survivor. She survived Michaela at the age of 4 giving her a "haircut" in which her ear got knicked. She survived her brother Rocky after he died. She has survived three dogs, but I thought hurricane Ike got her. No, she survived that, as well. Did I mention I found out I am allergic to cats?
