Election blues

I'm growing weary of all of the phone calls and the campaign ads in the mail. This has been a REALLY long election season, and I can't wait until it's over!On with Christmas! :-)

Our Son, the Republican

Micah (8) demonstrated to his bible class this morning how much he is learning in Social Studies at home. This year Daddy asked to take over one subject, and since history was never my favorite (although I think I could have loved it if it had been taught to me differently...one beauty of homeschooling!), and he loves it, I volunteered that.So Ken has begun teaching them about government, and specifically up to this point, about the election process. He's doing a great job, the kids love it, and they are learning so much!So this morning after our bible classes, Micah's teacher shared what happened as they were talking about Rehoboam. They were discussing Rehoboam wanting to raise taxes, and the teacher asked, "What does it mean to raise taxes?"Micah spoke up and said,"It means you're a democrat!":-)

Guess who I met today!

As we often do, we went down to Columbus to do some shopping today. With Ken's birthday coming up next week, the kids and I still needed to do some shopping for him, so we dropped him and Ethan off at "the strip" we do so much shopping on, and the 3 oldest kids and I went over to "another store." ;-)When we were in line to check out, Ken called and said, "Glenn Beck is at Barnes and Noble!" I couldn't believe that I had missed that he was coming, since I listen to Glenn (at least part of his show) almost every day. But looking back, it occurs to me that I really didn't turn it on as much this past week (and I don't think I did at all yesterday), for whatever reason. Anyway, Glenn was supposed to arrive at 2:00, and it was about 5 minutes 'til. So the kids and I finished up and headed over. The line, of course, snaked ALL the way through the store, but it seemed to be moving quickly, so we waited. I think we all waited for about 45 minutes (Ken ...

Washing machine recommendations, please!

I will soon be in the market for a new washer and dryer... For a long time, I have said that when I was ready to buy new, I would most definitely be buying a front loading washer. Now I'm not positive. Now I'm wondering if I should consider a top loader without the agitator, since they work very similarly to a front loader. What do you have, what do you like, what don't you like, etc....?I also am starting from scratch on what brand to go with once I decide what style...I had my mind made up a couple years ago, and then I started hearing bad reviews on the one I thought I'd get. This is a lot of pressure, considering that I will have these for a LONG time to come! ;-) So, fill me in!

What a great weekend!

We had a busy, but fun and edifying weekend. Huey Hartsell was here for a Gospel meeting Friday-Sunday, and we enjoyed spending time with him and his lovely wife Betty. I could sit and talk with Miss Betty for HOURS, soaking up her knowledge and learning from her wisdom. With each year as a wife and mother, I have come to appreciate more and more the value in the younger women learning from the older. What an encouragement! On Sunday afternoon, we had a potluck at the home of our members who farm. We had great food and great fellowship...and then Ken, Ethan and I went out "calving" with our farmer brother, Phil. We rode through lots of pasture, looking for new calves...when we found one, Phil would tag them...and if they were males, they were castrated right on the spot! (Welcome to the world! LOL) That was quite a sight, let me tell you...and Ken said when we got back to the house that he felt a little lightheaded. ;-) I believe we found 5 new calves, and 3 were ...

"This pen just drawed on mine hand!"

Ethan just came in and announced that to me. ;-)He has pen marks all over his hand...when I asked if Ethan did it, he said, "NO...HE did!" and held up the pen for me to take.I wonder if this pen belongs to that elusive Not Me who gets blamed for everything.
