A lovely Saturday

We started off our day with the annual Davis/Godwin Homecoming pancake breakfast. Yummy food and good company. I wore my Gator sweatshirt just to keep things stirred up!Then around noon we headed downtown to try and get some tickets to the game. We got to the stadium at about 1 pm and the kids wanted to take the first 4 tickets we could find. The first ones we found were $15 each. Stacy and I had already agreed on a maximum of $10 each - since chances were high that the kids wouldn't last much past half time. The next ones we were offered were down low with the chair backs attached - for $50 each. Sure - I want to pay $200 for tickets and then leave at half-time. The kids are about to explode with impatience. Finally about 10 minutes before the game is to start, a family walks by and the dad says "You need 4 together?" Stacy says yes and the guys says he has two pairs of tickets but they aren't together. He says he is pretty sure there will be empty seats by one ...

Ahhh...the weekend!

Today I was laying in bed reading, after the kids had left for school and the phone rings. It was Kelly Services - wanting me to sub for Maddie's teacher. I knew it would be a stressful day but I felt sorry for the aide and for Maddie and all the other "good" kids that are in that class. It was a L-O-N-G day - with several visits from the assistant principal and several other teachers taking kids out of our classroom to relieve the tension, but we all survived. There are 30 kids in that class - 5 boys and 2 girls which are a constant source of trouble. I expressed my concern - again - to the principal but I am not sure what else could be done. What the school board really needs to do is hire another 4th grade teacher. Here I am holding my breath!Tomorrow - pancake breakfast at the Davises! And then hopefully finding some really cheap - if not free! - football tickets. We don't want to pay too much on the very real chance that the kids won't want to stay for the w...

Happy birthday to my favorite sista !

I would try and list 37 things I love about Naomi, but I don't think you have that much free time so here are my top ten!1. Besides my dear hubby, she is my bestest friend.2. Her children are almost as cute as mine!3. She is willing to stay up late and be silly with me - either in person or on-line.4. She is a great example of what a mother, wife and friend should be.5. Someday she is going to take care of our parents in their old age!6. When we get old, we are going to buy matching polyester suits to wear when we are together.7. If it weren't for her husband, we might never have learned to eat salsa AND sour cream with tortilla chips.8. She is fun to watch if you get her hyped up on caffeine - particularly Mt. Dew.9. She can make me snort more than anyone else.10. She is easy to love!Happy birthday, sis!

Monday...again.

A new week lies(lays? lay?) ahead of us. I see lots of house cleaning in my future. We are supposed to host our supper club on Friday night and then next week, a ladies bible class. I am hoping I can get the carpets professionally cleaned on Wednesday or Thursday. Ian's last soccer game is tomorrow night - yay!! It has been a really good season - other than having to deal with some other coaches with bad attitudes. My dear hubby has a lot more patience than I do. The team party is Thursday night, but me and Maddie will be at Emily's baby shower. Instead of the usual shower food fare, we are doing a chocolate buffet. Yes, you heard me right! We will even have a chocolate fountain. I need to not eat for the rest of the week to save up for Thursday night! What are you up to this week?

I don't know whether to call him Alabama Joe or Indiana Jones - after all, he was born in Indiana. Tonight is the Fowler's annual halloween party! If there are any women out there who are still in need of a costume, call me or email me. We have a great costume idea you can get in on. I promise it is VERY simple.

Really?

Why do some teenagers feel it is their right to walk around with NO costume and expect me to give them candy just because they ring my doorbell? Are times that desperate that they have to go begging for candy? What age did you stop trick-or-treating? I dressed up and went my freshman year at FC. Sad but true.

Who knew?

Who knew it could be so cold in southern Alabama in October? Last night at Ian's soccer game, it was 42 degrees. I had on a turtle neck, a heavy sweater, my winter jacket, Stacy's Gator baseball cap, a scarf and gloves. Maddie was sitting on my lap (similarly dressed) and we had a blanket over us. After the first quarter, Maddie decided to go sit in the car and read, so I was left to freeze by myself.Ian apparently decided to stay warm by scoring goals. He scored at least three and came close on a couple more. The other team had a penchant for pushing people in the back. Ian did a sliding face plant right in front of the goal because of it. Thankfully he missed the goal post!Only two more games to go!

The sound of Silence

I need to allow a certain someone regular access to my pleo account - maybe then there would be regular new posts. This is our first weekend home in several weeks, and it is packed with activity. Two weekends ago we went to Panama City Beach for Stacy to do another mini-triathalon. And then last weekend, the kids and I went to Tennessee. I have been subbing all this week - so our house looks like a tornado came through. Today, Stacy and Ian are doing a five mile bike ride to celebrate the opening of the Donahue bike path. Actually - they just walked out the door. Then at 11:30, we have the Adpot-A-Student cookout with people from church. I want to know where I can sign up for someone to adopt us! Then at 1, Ian has a soccer game. Tomorrow, Stacy is preaching, because he had the nerve to leave town. So, what are you up to this weekend?
