There's something in the air...

I know it's not even Thanksgiving yet, but this fall I missed most of the glories that it has to offer thanks to my morning sickness. I'm starting to feel much better (today I'm not doing so hot, but that's the exception now, not the rule) as long as I take care to the little details no one else wants to know. But anyway, I've been feeling rather dreary about missing all those lovely fall colors walks, going leaf hunting with the kids in the crisp weather, etc. So we put up the Christmas tree. And we decorated the inside of the house. I'm not ready to do the outside--we have to save up, since this will be our first time ever.My friend Katie gave me her old 7 1/2 foot tree, which is GREAT! Last year was our first year to have a tree, and it was about 5 feet tall and a little sparse. So this is lush and full, and holds all our children's precious creations for previous years' decorations. With room to spare.I suppose I'll be sick of it sooner than last year, but for now, I'm so glad...

How rare is my political expression

that only when it weighs on me do I share it.Our newspaper is a bit less one-sided than many. In fact, the expectations they quoted from community members included not only "hey, Obama will be a great president" but also some "he needs to live up to the expectations" and even "as a born again Christian, I expect him to be the opposite of what God's word says."that being said, the racial climate in Birmingham, Alabama is such that one federal judge was given quite a lot of room in one of the articles about the "black vote" and the "white vote". He said things about how unfortunate that the states that once had slaves the longest and made life difficult for those of different races by law the longest also did not vote for Barak Obama. What I take that to mean for me is he believes that I, as a white person living in a state formerly a part of the Confederacy, I should have voted for Barak Obama, regardless of how I felt about his vi...

The light is a little closer and a little bigger

Today marks my 11 week mark. And the days are slowly starting to get a bit better! I'm still pretty tired, but now I should be able to implement a better diet to help with that. As long as I take a nap I can avoid being bedridden all evening. Hurray! We are reading a fun old story about the pilgrims. It's from the Homeschool Freebie of the Day website, and it's in three parts. This site is lots of fun--they have some great old stories and interesting things from many years ago. The catch is that the only offer one thing per day for download. So if you want all of the three part story, you have to go back each day!And the joys of greek yogurt!!! I need protein--lots of it---but I cannot see how eating pork all day long can be beneficial. So I tried lemon yogurt. There was too much sugar, which made me sick again. So...shopping with my husband is always a good thing. This time he recommended a greek yogurt. It was horribly expensive, but it has more than twice the protein of regular p...

Not complaining

I'm going to have a cheerful post.I'm sitting at the computer, waiting for my husband to come home and take us out to eat chinese food. My 2 year old daughter is sitting in my lap munching on matchstick carrots and occasionally feeding them to me. We're listening to Each Little Dewdrop.Evan is behind me playing with a tractor. Made for the indoors, that is.I can't wait to be able to meet with my church family again! We were out of town last weekend to be with my husband's family, and I've had a cold, so I was out on Wednesday. I'm so ready to be with my church family!!!!!

And now for something completely different

I have a red circle on my foot. A large drop of hot oil from the egg cooking swished out of the pan when I was swirling it around--and landed on top of my foot. Which reinforces the old axiom: don't fry bacon in the nude.

The world is not going to end...

...though our way of life may change a bit.But when I got up this morning and saw a whopping 338 electoral votes for Mr. Barak Hussein Obama, Jr., my son Evan wanted to know about it.As I explained the evil policies this man wants to ensure saturates our country that is supposed to represent freedom to the world, I had to explain what it meant. And in doing so, I told him how we must respect his office anyway, though we do not follow laws that go against God's laws. We talked about the three branches of government and the balances of power (of course with God in control). Then I proceeded to explain how much worse it was for the Christians in the time of Rome. There was an evil man in power until he died or was killed. He called all the shots, no matter how weird, sinful, or far-fetched. And he had millions of people hunted and killed for fun. So while our life may change, we have many things to pray about and be thankful for.God is good!
A good day without the sickies! (too much)

The Lord was merciful and granted me a whole day without feeling too sick! Most of the day I didn't feel anything bad at all! God is so good to me!Saturday we had a fall carnival with some folks from our church family, and as long as I laid off the sweets and snitched Jesse's fabulous pork barbecue I did just fine.Yesterday was crazy fun! After morning worship (I participated in the Lord's supper without getting sick this week! Woohoo!) we ate at the Nobles' house-yummmmmmm. Then we rushed home and met with some lovely friends for about two hours before grabbing me a sandwich, heading back to the building for worship. Then me and six other ladies piled into a decked-out Tahoe to do this:Michael W. Smith and Steven Curtis Chapman at the BJCC downtown!I really really enjoyed all the SCC stuff. He spoke a lot more than I expected, especially about his struggle to balance his shows with his journey with God since the accidental death of his youngest daughter this May. His honesty ...

Playing catch up

Well, I was so not on Pleonast that I didn't even write about CJ's 2nd birthday two weeks ago! I'm so glad I wrote down her birth story three days after she was born. I read the story again a couple of weeks ago and I'm amazed at the intensity of the emotions--not just during the birth, but afterwards, too. I forgot a lot of stuff already, too. I'm working on Evan's birth story now, but it's not going to be the same. Which I guess is just as well, since I didn't like my experience in the hospital, over all. So, anyway, here is my Clara Joy as a baby:And here is CJ's 2nd birthday portrait:

So it's about time...

Thanks for all the congrats! We're having Baby #3 Lord willing around the first of June! We started homeschooling shortly after my last post, hence my disappearance. I had a lot to do to set up a better learning environment. And I was teaching Bible class during those three months, so that took up the rest of my time. So, you want some pictures??? This summer was busy, busy! We had a lovely visit from the kids' great-grandparents (I'm trying to pare down the number of pictures I need to update so I update more often, otherwise you would see a picture of Grandpa, too).We also went with some family friends to the Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville on July 4th. It was almost deserted all morning, so we got to do lots more stuff than we would have on a Saturday. We also learned to play disc golf with Andy. This has been his new hobby since the spring. It's been a great way for him to get to know the guys at church because he stirred up a zeal for disc golf among a fair-sized nu...

What we've been up to lately

Rainbows, rainbows, colors! We've been studying rainbows and colors intermittently the past two and a half weeks. I picked something that we could be flexible with because I've been doing a lot for the church family's classes. We're getting ready for VBS next week. Look here. A flash movie should appear in a few seconds in the right corner under the heading. It does have sound.I've been putting together stuff for the ladies' class and been at the building all week long. Andy's building the ark today, and I'll be back at the building again. So...pictures have been low on the list. But I'm planning to take pictures during next week.My friend Stacy moved this morning before I even woke up. I'm happy/sad. I've been doggedly determined to be positive for her. It's a great opportunity for her, and she'll be at Mountain View at least for a while, so that's happy. But she'll be gone from here, and that's kinda sad. So Andy told her parents that we'll be their kids, since now all their ki...
