New place

So we are now in Arkansas. We are staying with Alex's parents temporarily in order to save up money. I have the possablity of a job teaching a music appreciation class at the nearby community college already, thanks to Alex's dad having connections. That would only be for three hours a week though. I am thinking of starting a studio to teach piano and oboe, or maybe just do the secretarial type job through a temp agency. I went to the doctor yesterday and she signed a form that is the second to last peace of my application to the JET program in Japan. Now I'm waiting to receive one of my reference letters, and then it's in the mail. It's scary to think about, but I think it will be a great adventure, and a unique and exciting experience no matter what happens. Hopefully we will be able to go.I do like in in this area. We are really close to Memphis, and I like the slower pace of things compared to where we were in Cincinnati. I feel like I can breathe better. (That might have some...

moving

Hey, we're moving to Arkansas on Thursday.I'm excited, and hope everything goes well.We are getting a Uhaul. It's weird to leave Cincinnati. I really like the congregation we were with in Northern Ky, and it will be sad to leave. All of my piano students were members/children of members of the church and now are moving on to new teachers. :(Also, my computer broke, so now I have to use Alex's.I pressed the on button and heard a pop, and that was the end of it.That is also sad. But, looking forward to new things, and really happy about moving forward.LoveEmily

Both Sides can be Guilty of Sin that Causes Division

I am so glad to hear discussions about authority and our use of it. It is interesting to see the circles and circles that discussions like this can sometimes bring from well-meaning hearts on both sides. It is good to talk about these issues because they are so important and bring stronger conviction to us as we learn more and more, and they can help us to see errors in logic that we otherwise may not have recognized.I am saddened, however, when even though these discussions that continue to go in circles are never resolved, neither side can let go of their stance, so, one still accuses the other of falsehood, even though they can be trapped in their own argument and were unable to convincingly reason beyond their own opinion, while the other accuses the former of being pharisaical, binding things that shouldn't be bound, so that both develop an improper attitude about it, encouraging further division. In other words, if you recognize that the issue is going in circles, you have...

Some of you may remember my post about abortion and Obama a while back. Well, I wanted to write a little more about that subject because I had heard it said that abortion rates increased under bush's presidency, but decreased under Clinton's presidency. Upon further investigation, I found that that is not true. All that is found in an article from "fact check.org." The url is here: http://www.factcheck.org/society/the_biography_of_a_bad_statistic.htmlFeel free to read the article if you want, as it is very informative. In fact, abortion rates have been steadily decreasing for a long time. They decline was more steep under Clinton, but through both presidencies abortion has steadily decreased. That is good news...but it makes me wonder, why hasn't the decrease been more dramatic under Bush's presidency, since he is pro-life? Maybe it involves several reasons, social, economic, and so on. I'm not blaming Bush, just asking the question. The reason I'm writing this is becaus...

more recording stuff

So, I re-recorded Tennessee today because I was tired of the other one because it just wasn't a very good recording. I like the song and I think it's one of my better ones, but since I put it on the top of my play list, I decided I really should record something that does the song a bit more justice. so that's what I did today. I am excited about it, I think it's much better. I added some background vocals, and just play piano better in it. My keyboard on midi only does so much, though. I just wish I could record it with a real piano so I can really get a good effect at the end! Well, I'll try that in Arkansas. So, it's below along with my new song "Beverly" that I posted about in my previous post. Hope you enjoy it!

New Song, Beverly

I wrote this song yesterday.Recorded it today. I'll probably come back to it tomorrow and wonder what I was thinking by showing this recording to everyone already, but ah well. I am excited about it and hope you like it!I'll even write the lyrics:"something has happened to Beverly, she opened a letter to finda picture of her love upon the sea in a ship with billowing sails. It wasn't a letter of sympathy, it wasn't a wish of good health, it didn't express any words of love or sentiment of eternity,'Beverly, my dear sweet lady, my one and onlyBeverly I'm writing to tell you I want to stay free, I'm not coming home.'The day he left she wanted to follow but she knew he would never allow.'It's dangerous, life on the sea, stay here and I will come back to you'and after he kissed her and told her he would never leave her,he was gone, and he knew that he would never come back,Beverly, My dear sweet lady, my one and only, Beverly I'm writing to tell you I want to st...

closer to moving, coversongs

So, we finally got the deed for the land we bought. That means, we can finally sell it! I have contacted the people who own the property right next to it in hopes that they will buy it. I'm waiting for a response now.I suppose if worse comes to worst we will have to donate it, cutting our losses and moving on. Fortunately, we got it for really cheap, so it's not too bad. So, we are going to stay here through November at the latest. We are trying to sell a bunch of our stuff as well. We put some things on Craigs list and got tons of responses, but then nobody ever actually got it. They just asked questions. I guess they lost interest. I suppose we can donate stuff to goodwill if it never gets sold.I'm ready to go to Arkansas to get things started there. So, lately I've been just practicing covers of songs more than my own. I'm thinking it's helping me get used to other styles and it's good general practice to be able to figure out other peoples songs and think of a good way to perfo...

Okay, so the song "Someday" is completely experimental! I sing over myself in four tracks and added midi orchestral strings in the background! I think the idea is pretty cool, so I wanted to show it to you all. I'm just seeing what I can do wit hit. So, if you don't mind, give it a listen! here it is! In the middle the background vocals get a little crazy so stick to the whole thing! (P.S. It's Someday, not someday I'll stop, it's the last one on this playlist)I also recorded a cool version of Blue Skies, but I'm afraid to download it due to copyright laws. I hate those laws sometimes. I'm not making any money off of it, what's the big deal?!! I wouldn't mind if people covered my songs, as long as they say who wrote it.loveEmily

So, how is everyone? Since I have some videos on youtube, I've been trying to get in with the youtube crowd a bit. The idea is to get a lot of people to watch my videos. It's hard though. It's discouraging too. I mean, one at a time befriending each person is very tedious. But, I guess there is no other way to do it unless I put McCain, Palin, or Obama as one of the key words. Or maybe Brittany Spears. Anyway, Some people's videos get thousands of views, and I just don't know how that happens. Ah well. I wish I had a video camera so I could put videos up regularly. So, cooler weather these days! how nice.my apartment gets really hot and muggy in the summer and really cold in the winter. I guess it's not insulated very well. But, at least when it gets cold I can have hot chocolate and wear sweaters! It's nice to not have to go to school too. I remember what it was like on a day like this to be inside the always cold reed-room making oboe reeds, and getting ready for rehearsal.I mus...
