I have jumped in to stop a fair number of fights here at Job Corps. The students tell me I am one of the only staff members that do. But today was a first for me. I recieved my first injury.Man, GIRLS ARE ROUGH!!!!!!!!!!!This is the first "chick fight" I have ever had to jump into. They are insane!!!! I jumped in between two girls today at the end of day and I now have a wicked looking scratch down most of my right forearm. When guys fight it is mostly fists. When girls fight it is fists and nails and slaps and kicks and hip checks and knees and let's not forget about hair pulling! It's like trying to get inbetween two cyclones. I kept picturing me inbetween to Tazmanian Devils - the Warner Brothers variety. Two whirling tornadoes of claws and cursing.I just have to laugh now that the whole thing is over. And what was the fight about? - one was allegedly spreading rumors about the other.IN.SANE.

So after almost 10 years I am going back to college. On Friday I got my acceptance letter into the Masters Program for School Counseling at Governor's State University. I am getting pretty excited about going back to school. Of course I will have NO free time when it happens, but I really think it will be worth it in the long run. I wonder how college life will be as a 33 year old as opposed to a 23 year old.

They brought back KNIGHT RIDER!!!! *crickets chirp*Yeah...me too. It really stinks. So if you could reboot a series from the 70's or 80's what would it be? Which of today's actors would you cast? (And let's forget about money and assume that the writing is so amazing that ANY actor would jump at the chance to do this television show.)

To Boldly Go...Again

When I was younger I was a HUUUUGE Star Trek nut. Saturday nights used to mean hamburgers and Star Trek reruns. And The Next Generation was one of the only shows I put down everything to watch.I liked Deep Space Nine but Voyager and Enterprise just couldn't hold me. The adventuresd of Starfleet had lost their shine. I thought Star Trek had run its course. And I was OK with that. But ever since I heard JJ Abrams (genius behind ALIAS, LOST, and FRINGE) was rebooting it, I started to get excited. And now that all of the cast members are known, the young Trekie in me is coming out again. What do you think?

This is to both of my grandfathers who served in World War II.This is to my wife's grandfather who served in World War II.This is to my father who served in Vietnam. This is to every family member I have who has protected my freedom. This is to all of the Christians I have worshiped with who have served our country. This is to all the men and women I don't know, but owe so much to.Thank You.

Wedding Confusion

So my wife's youngest sister got married this weekend. My wife was a bridesmaid and my daughter was a flower girl. And might I say that they were both beautiful. I sang a song. (That's kinda what I do at family weddings) It went very well. People told me I made them cry - in a good way.During the reception, my wife and I sat at the head table while Jill sat with her Aunt Jessi. Jill seemed concerned after watching a groomsman walk Terra down the aisle. One of the first things she told Jessi was, "Mommy held somebody else's hand and it wasn't daddy."Jessi reassured her that everything was ok.So now we have all of one side of the family married. Just two more to go! :)

Out of Character

I have tried for this blog to be a beacon of frivolity. I have maintained my shallowness for over three years now. I do not like to get deep on this thing - But I have been wondering:How much, if at all, does society influence what the christain believes is sinful and not sinful?About 80 years ago it was immodest for a woman to show her ankles. When our grandparents and great-grandparents were growing up, it was OK to smoke and a sin to go to the movies. Words are "curse words" because society has deemed them vulgar. Now I am not defending any of these things. I am just wondering if God has factored culture and society into how the christian lives. It hurt my brain to think such deep thoughts.
