Back to normal...sort of

Well, we were very fortunate with Ike. We returned from San Antonio Monday evening to find the power had been restored in our neighborhood! Yay! We lost all of our food, but that's OK. We have plenty of stuff in the pantry that we can munch on until we can go grocery shopping. Plus, we got a couple of MRE's (Meals, Ready to Eat) that were being given out in various locations around Houston. They're not great, but not bad either. We have no internet access at home, so it'll take awhile to get caught up. I'm currently at the building, where there's power and internet. AT&T said it would be Thursday morning before they could have somebody out to the house to see what the problem is, but I'm sure it's related to Ike.The lines at the grocery stores have been humongously long for milk and other perishables, but Lisa went to CVS where there was NO lines and plenty of milk! I can finally have cereal again. Woohoo! If you can't tell, I love cereal. It might be awhile before w...

No damage!

Talked to our neighbor earlier and he said there is no structural damage to the house! Wow! Talk about a big sigh of relief. Of course, there's branches down everywhere, debris everywhere, fences down, power out, but to get a report of no damage is very much a blessing. We'll be staying here in San Antonio through Sunday night and go back on Monday. Then we get to deal with no electricity for who knows how long...in the Texas heat. Fun.Thanks for all your prayers!

In San Antonio

We decided to leave this morning for San Antonio. We were planning on going up to Huntsville and stay with Shawn and Teresa, but since they're getting a bunch of the storm too, decided to go west instead. We left this morning at about 9:45, packing up what we could, securing what we could, and praying that it's all still there when we get back.I figured we might as well have fun with this, so today we went to the Alamo and the Riverwalk in San Antonio. We were hoping to go to Sea World tomorrow, but it's a 100% chance of rain here in San Antonio on Saturday, so that nixed that idea. We'll find something to do indoors here instead. My dad was gracious enough to get us a hotel with his Marriott rewards for 3 nights. Who knows when we'll be going back. Our next door neighbor works with EOC (Emergency Operations Center). I just called him and he said he'll be going back to check on the houses in the morning, so I won't have to wait too long to find out just how bad it is (or good...

Possible change in plans

We're still here in Houston. We may or may not leave afterall. Before, we didn't have plywood and I was mainly concerned about the windows being broken and dealing with the broken glass, wind, and rain coming inside the house. Since I posted that, we found some scraps and some boards and now have the front windows (facing south) boarded up. That makes me feel a lot more comfortable.So...I'm kind of leaning towards staying. We are in a high area (as high as you can get 5 miles from the coast) and according to the neighbors on both sides, this street never gets flooded...at least not inside the houses. Obviously, though, there will be extremely high wind and possible tornadoes. Both of our neighbors (on either side) are staying too. When we wake up in the morning, I'll make the final decision whether to evacuate or not. I'm praying really hard that Ike takes a sharp right turn, because as it is right now, we'll be in the worst part of the hurricane (NW quadrant). For those of...

We'll be heading out to Shawn and Teresa's in Huntsville in a little bit. (Thanks guys!) Gotta finish getting rid of all the potential missiles in the yard and covering up electronics and stuff first. We might be gone for a few days.Cya!

Riding the Storm Out or Riders on the Storm

Take your pick: REO Speedwagon or The DoorsEither way, we'll be doing both most likely. Looks like we're going to get it one way or the other. Even if it's not a direct hit, it's looking like we'll be on the NE quadrant of the storm which is the worst. Please be praying for us and all of those in the storm's path!

Busy. Very busy.

Very quick update.Lisa and the kids got back from B'ham on the 6th. It was so wonderful to have them back. Nothing like greeting your kids at the airport and them jumping up and down with excitement to see you. Lisa could have cared less about seeing me. Seriously, she was excited too...just without the jumping up and down. :)Anyway, I've been very busy finishing up a paper for Dee on Pentecostalism. Each 6 months I have to write a paper; the first one was "The Errors of Dispensational Premillennialism" and was about 25 pages. This one on Pentecostalism will be about the same length and is due next week.I told Lisa that she and the kids won't be seeing very much of me over this next week. And neither will pleo.Talk to y'all after I'm done.
