Recovering

It's hard to believe it's October already, but Fall is my FAVORITE season. Sadly, down here in south TX I doubt I'll see leaves changes into beautiful shades of gold, red, and orange. Many of you have inquired about me and my health. I am doing well, even though I seem to tire easily. Thank you for all your love and prayers for me and my family.I will be returning in mid-December to the Cleveland Clinic for a check-up and to have genetic studies done. Most people don't get three separate types of cancer. It's just not normal,so they want to find out why I'm so weird!!! At least I'll be able to see my family for the holidays. In the few weeks since my return home to Texas I've kept busy doing Fall cleaning and sorting of our belongings. We had some things we weren't really using, including some clothing. Since Hurricaine Ike has left so many without even basic things like shoes and clothes,we donated to them. There are so many folks in need in this area. On TV they are requesting toothb...

I've Been Tagged!

I'm to share 8 random, but interesting facts about myself and then tag 8 other people on Pleo. Here we go~1. I love Ralph Lauren's "Blue" fragrance!2. I love chime clocks and cuckoo clocks. We own a chime clock, but not a cuckoo.3. I love quality, old, classic movies. Just because a movie is old, does not mean it's any good!4.I ususally take showers, but I still take a bath at least once a week in the evening. It decreases my stress and helps me relax for sleep. Sometimes I take them more often, when I'm really stressed.5.I don't like using emery boards. It's like using sandpaper and gives me that "fingernails scraping on a chalkboard" feeling! Instead, I use a glass nail file which can be washed, dried, and re-used.6.I love ice and I love my beverages with plenty of ice. Yes,I'm an ice muncher!7. Because of my food allergies,I eat alot of rice-based foods, but I rarely eat just rice or even have an appetite for plain old rice.8.I wash my hands alot, but since ...

Ike aftermath and update

It was good to see my brethren at worship yesterday, especially after Ike! One of our members homes was badly damamged. Others lost trees and had some damage to their homes. Several are STILL WITHOUT power. We are fortunate that when this complex was built they placed the lines/power cables underground. This makes it easier to return power after an outage.Grocery shopping has been humbling. You can't just make a menu for the week based on what everyone's hungry for because you can NOT find the necessary ingredients at the stores. The grocers lost their perishables because of the damage Ike caused. It's eery to walk thru the stores and see many empty or nearly empty shelves and row after row of refrigerated meat, produce, and dairy cases nearly empty when you've become so accustomed to seeing them fully stocked.Of course the frozen food items all thawed and had to be thrown out as well. Each household in our area that lost power has also had to endure this tossing of food and clea...

Such sad news...

On what should have been a day of joyful rejoicing for Matt and Lauren Bassford,it has now become a day of mourning and sorrow. We were so sad and shocked to hear from Craig's father,John Meyer (who serves as an elder where Matt preaches)that our dear brother and sister in Christ have lost their precious baby. They were anxiously and excitedly awaiting the arrival of their firstborn and now must return home with empty arms. This is such heartbreaking news! Please keep Matt and Lauren in your prayers,as well as their families who are travelling to be with them. Here is their mailing address if you would like to send a card to them.Matt and Lauren Bassford1217 Brentwood PlaceJoliet,IL 60435Tragic news like this makes our children even more precious to us. I know I will be hugging my little one a little tighter tonight!Blessings~Kimberly

We've Returned to Dickinson!

Woo-Hoo!!!We're back home! We are blessed to have our power restored, although many still do not!!! WA-AH!!! :(We left here last Thursday night around 6:30pm.,so we spent a week away from home. Many from our area evacuated to San Antonio and Austin. It was eery when we left. NOTHING was open! No grocery stores, gas stations, banks,Lowes,Home Depots, Wal-Marts,Targets,drug stores,fast-food and other restaurants...you name it! Everything was boarded up,locked up,and it basically looked like a ghost town! Everything had closed no later than 6:00pm last Thursday night. Prior to that many had to wait in line 1 1/2-2 hrs. and were only allowed 15 minutes in the stores and were limited on the amount of essentials they could purchase. It was very odd...We managed just fine in San Antonio. We switched to a different motel after a few days. The second place we stayed at was much cheaper and was offering FEMA rates for evacuees. Also the rooms had a small kitchen with a regular, but smallis...

Yikes! We don't like Ike!

We are still in San Antonio. We worshipped with the brethren at O'Connor Road on the NE side of town. It was good to hear Brother Wayne Moody preach on Psalm 140.The news we have received from Dickinson is that there is NO electric,no stores are open, and there is no gasoline either! Also of great concern is that we cannot drink the water. They are predicting 2 weeks++ plus for power to be restored! Yikes!!The roads are passable in places, but we think we need to stay where we are for now. Please continue to pray for us and so MANY others who are affected by Ike.Blessings~Kimberly

Home,but leaving...AGAIN!!!

Well Hurricaine "Ike" has us on the run! I arrived safely back to Houston at 5:45 pm yesterday. We ate dinner at Cracker Barrel and made it to Bible study with our brethren in Dickinson with 10 minutes to spare! WHEW!But now the mayor of Dickinson has said there is a mandatory evacuation of the low-lying areas of Dickinson. Well the whole town is low lying with the Bayou here and is at approx. 20 feet above sea level!Craig said "Let's stick around and experience a hurricaine!" I'm like,"No,let's not! I didn't just spend all this time and $$$ in Ohio to get well just to die or get hurt by hurricaine winds or flood waters, which is really the reason why we are fleeing. The "storm surge" will most likely flood this area if the weather forecasters predictions are correct. So we are heading to San Antonio! We plan to see the Alamo and are going to go to Sea World on Saturday. Ethan is really excited about Sea World! We'll spend some family time toget...

Homeward bound. I long to be. Homeward bound!

You do know who sang that great oldie, right?!Well, tomorrow is the day I've been waiting for! Lord willing,I'll catch my flight bound for Texas. If the airline is running on time, then I shouldn't have a problem making it on time to Bible study! I really do miss all the saints who meet for worship in Dickinson! It will be so good to see them! The last word I had re: my biopsy report is that the results are complete! First they will be released to the physician who ordered them. Then they will be made available to my other doctors at the Cleveland Clinic. Then the patient (me!) will receive the results. So,perhaps by Friday...?!My oldest son,Glenn will be moving to Houston soon to live with us. Ethan is jumping for joy! Please keep him in your prayers that he will have safe travels as he moves south!Did you guess Simon and Garfunkel?! If you did, good for you!Blessings~Kimberly

Weekend Report

Glenn and I had a great time in Columbus. The Lion King show was fabulous! If you ever get a chance to go,you will really enjoy it! The music and costumes had more of an African feel.Lots of color and lots of percussion. The "puppets" the actors used for each animal were incredible! We ate dinner at Carrabba's and had dessert at The Cheesecake Factory. I had the lemon-raspberry cheesecake which was oh-so creamy and dreamy! My sister Valerie and her hubby Ric were here to visit this weekend. It was GREAT being with them! They are SO special to me!Tonight after evening worship I made two pans of enchiladas, black beans, and corn for our family meal at Mom and Dad's.Valerie made awesome guacamole and fresh salsa! Yummo! Matt,Rachel, and their "babies" joined us for chow and we all enjoyed our time together.Glenn preached this evening at Medina and gave an excellent lesson on Peace. Seems we all could use more peace in our lives!I finally updated my blog photo,...

Suspicious... Prayer needed!

Yesterday's triumphal elation is over! I just got shoved back onto the emotional rollercoaster and am headed DOWN!!!Remember when I posted about having some biopsies done by the dermatologist about 3 wks. ago? Well I've been told repeatedly my results are still "pending or being processed",when initially I was told the results would be back in 5 days. Arggg...So I've continued to inquire if they are done. Today,my dermatologist calls me and tells me WHY there is a delay. The one on my forehead was fine, but the deeper one that required stitches is quite suspicious! Suspicious for a malignancy! He said it is "atypical" looking and is being reviewed DAILY to determine exactly what it is! However,it almost looks like a lymphoma to them! WHOA! I NEVER saw that coming! So I asked what is the prudent action at this point??? Do I need a scan or more tests?? WHAT do I do??!!He said until he has a complete or a confirmed report,he can NOT really answer my ques...
