And how many times have we heard the answer, "The one whose spouse committed adultery." I'd like us to step back and reconsider this, looking a little more closely at what the Bible actually says. Frankly, I'm still looking for the verse that gives anyone the right to divorce period. Now don't get me wrong. I understand there is one case in which the Bible suggests a divorce is lawful. I'm just still looking for the verse that says that divorce is a right. A "right" in this sense is that which is due a person or owed to them. Is there a verse anywhere that says the putting away of a spouse is owed to anyone or their due? Actually, there is not. Please, take a look at Matthew 5:32; 19:9 and the parallel passages in the other gospels. None of these verses say, "If your spouse has committed adultery you have a right to put them away."
