Several times a year we make the trip to Indiana from Alabama to see "the relatives." In Tennessee, this sign always makes me laugh.

A real life lesson in repentance and forgiveness

My doorbell just rang. When I opened it, I realized it was the 2 brothers who had participated in the neighborhood tire slashing incident a couple of weeks ago. It was awkward for me to stand there as they read the letters they had written telling all they had done, apologizing and offering to pay for the damages. The mother, the step-mother and dad were here too. I could see the hurt, disappointment and embarrassment on the parents faces. I am glad that the boys had a change of heart and wanted to make things right. It must have been a very hard lesson to learn. This reminds me of those that have committed "sins" against God and brought reproach against the church. When they come before God and the congregation to confess sins, are we eager to forgive them? Do we wrap our arms around them and tell them we love them, appreciate them and forgive them?

Hope in Christ

"...in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. "For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord." Romans 8:37-39 ___________________________________________________________________This is one of my favorite passages. It always encourages me and uplifts me. My DH and I went to a Gospel Meeting last night and was greatly encouraged by the lesson and the many Christians that we saw. I refused to ruin it by coming home and watching election returns. God loves me and that is all that matters. He is my King. He is whom I strive to serve. :)It is BEAUTIFUL here in north Alabama this week!!!!! The Bible study this morning was canceled so I am going to get out and enjoy this weather !...

November 1

We usually have hundreds of trick or treater and we had maybe 50. We deliberately didn't go anywhere this year so we could be home to greet the kids. :(Yesterday, I was doing laundry and when I bent over to get clothes out of the dryer, I did something to my back. I now can empathize with those with back trouble. I am ok when walking but the sitting is killing me.Today we got an interesting phone call. It was from the dad of the kid we thought was "the slasher." The dad said one of his sons confessed and that the other son was the ring leader. He is making them pay for all the tires plus come to us and apologize. I am glad that the dad is making them reap the consequences of their action. I can't believe it is November. I started thinking today about what I am going to be planning for the holidays. Friday, we are going to the Birmingham Craft Show. I went last year for the first time and it is enormous (450 vendors)! You have to get there early because ther...

Soap Box

We have had some really good lesson this week. Monday was especially good about Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach and Abedneggo refusing to eat the king's food. Gary made some excellent points about how our children, (when teenagers) if they are taught correctly, can make decisions when faced with a "crisis of faith." While I agree with that statement, I think that our children (when younger) need their parents to help guide them in making their decisions. We can be their "cheering section", if you will. *On My Soapbox* Last night, I asked a child how they were feeling because they had been sick. They replied they were better. They begun telling me about some other members of their family who were at a soccer game and it had gone into overtime and so they were not there. As this child was telling me this she KNEW that is was not the right thing to do and she was almost apologizing. It greatly saddens me when parents don't try to help and encourage their childr...

The Slasher

We got the heat fixed yesterday. Today I was leaving to run errands when I looked up and noticed both the tires on the right side of my son's car were flat. I thought that was strange because his tires are only 3 months old. I got to thinking that I saw one of the neighbors cars last week with 2 flat tires. I called the neighbor and she said that the tires were slashed. She said that at least 3 others had the same thing happen last night. We were the 4th. Her kids had heard rumors at school who was doing this. Well, I called the police and they came out to file a police report. As I was leaving the neighborhood I saw another neighbor filing a police report for the same thing. I was just glad that the tires on our visitors car wasn't slashed! My DH is having to leave work early to come home and take the tires off, buy more and replace them. I really hope that they catch the kid(s) responsible so they will have to pay for everyone new tires. The sad part is that the child w...

Cold Hands - Warm Hearts

Our heat is out and it is a little "nippy" in our house. I am not sure when the guy is coming to fix it but I hope it is soon because the weather is suppose to get really cold the next couple of days. It seem that everyone at our house is starting to get the sniffles. It is either the weather change or allergies. My son is home sick today and the rest of us are feeling blah too.The meeting has gotten off to a good start. We had good crowds yesterday. Since Gary and Dan are cousins, I have been hearing a lot of "growing up" stories. Gary is such a great story teller, just like his dad was. If you get a chance to come to the meeting, we have 3 nights left!

Here kitty, kitty

A week ago, my sister-in-law who owns a boarding kennel told me that she had found a kitten that someone had "dumped" at the kennel. I absolutely am NOT a cat person but my son loves them. So what do I do? I felt sorry for the kitten and let my son bring it home to live OUTSIDE. I must say it is the sweetest lap kitten. The problem, I am itching to death. At first I thought he might have fleas but we treated him. (the kitten not the son) I am still itching!!!!!! We have had outside cats before and I have never itched like this. It is chilly and rainy here today. It makes me want to be lazy, sit with a good book and read or watch a movie. I need to go to the grocery store and buy last minute items before "the preacher" comes tomorrow night. I washed and washed my crimson towels but I am not sure it helped with the "dye" problem. I just switched the older towels for the company because it wouldn't look real good when he gets up to preach if he is...
