Water Leak, Dizziness, and Hamburger

Well, the water company came out Friday and fixed our water leak. It took them most of the day. Now they have to come back and finish filling in with dirt and whatever else they do to make it look nice again. I don't know if they sow grass and put down straw or what. My husband thinks they will. Anyhow, I guess they will do that Monday. My husband has been taking the medicine the doctor gave him for Vertigo. Tuesday he is supposed to go to the ENT doctor. The medicine seems to be helping. If he doesn't take the medicine he knows about it. Today I had my first hamburger since surgery and it was so good. I had been wanting one and decided to get one. I have had no problems with it. I also ate a sausage patty for breakfast and had a piece of toast with no problem. This was the first time I had had sausage and toast. I think I am getting back to normal. I'm so excited about that. One disappointment is that I can't hold my grandchildren. The doctor said I couldn't pick ...

I Live A Boring Life!

Well, what can I say? I live a boring life and don't have all the news to talk about that others on here have to say. Should I continue to write a blog? Who reads it?We got up this morning and I was going for a walk in the mall but several events changed that. First, my poor hubby was having a problem with dizziness. He has had a problem with that for a couple of weeks and it seems to be getting worse. He decided not to go for a walk because he was too dizzy. Then he walks down to the paper box to get our paper and saw water running on the street. I called the water company and reported it. Water was coming from in our box where the meter is. The leak was right next to the meter. During the meantime he calls the doctor and he could see him this morning so that cancelled my walk. Then he called the water company back to let them know that we were going to be gone and the water was shut off. When he mentioned where the leak was, the woman said it was our problem. Then he c...

Latest Update!

I went to the doctor yesterday and everything is progressing as expected. I haven't reached the peak of my swelling in my diaphram(sp?) area, though. That is supposed to be on about day 16 to day 18. He gave me a prescription for prednisone to help reduce the swelling yesterday. I still have a pretty bland diet for another couple of weeks or so. I can go out to eat but my choices of food are very limited. I still can't eat chicken, pork, or steak and many of the vegetables. I can eat scrambled eggs, mashed potatoes, green beans, and stuff like that.I did go for a walk in the mall today. I only walked one lap around the mall which is about one mile but I felt pretty good afterward. This was the easiest surgery that I have ever been through. The disappointing part is that the doctor said I can't lift more than a gallon of milk for three months.I will write more later. She is here and I think we are going out for a little bit.As far as the hives, the only thing we can fi...

The Surgery Is Over!!

I am so glad the surgery is over. I just want everyone to know that I'm doing well barring any unforeseen complications. I do have the hives but seem to be doing well from the surgery. I have enjoyed the luxury of being able to drink a milkshake the last couple of days. If you can't eat too much and are limited in what you eat then you should be able to splurge and have a milkshake. Yesterday my milkshake was my lunch. I haven't wanted a lot to eat. Everything I eat has to be very moist and I have to chew until it is dissolved in my mouth. I have been drinking Boost, eating puddings and applesauce, green beans, mashed potatoes and have even eaten a tomato that I chewed until it dissolved. I know I will be doing this until I go back in the 11th of August. Then I'll see where I go from there.I did have a minor setback that kept me in the hospital until Thursday. I had to be able to do certain things before I could go home. Well, they finally took the catheter out on Wednesda...

Surgery update

Well, my mom's surgery went well. I asked her about her pain level today and she was taking a pain pill but it was 4 hours since the last one. She was hoping to go home from the hospital on Wednesday but had a little bit of a set back. It wasn't anything major but the doctor would be in Thursday morning to check on her and try to get her home. As for her eating, she was already eating soft foods this morning. She had scrambled eggs, cream of wheat and coffee for breakfast. From what I was told, lunch was not a appealing but she ate some of it. Thank you for all of the prayers on her behalf! We all greatly appreciate it! Oh, and she has been up and walking a good deal. So, she is able to move around a bit. I asked if she was using any assistance and she said my dad's hand. So, leave all well wishes here for her to read when she gets home and back on the computer.

Home Again For a Little While!

We just got home from Gatlinburg this afternoon and we had a wonderful time but I am tired. Also, I can tell that I am off my anti-inflammatory medication. I had to come off it for seven days before the surgery. The last dose I took was on Monday night. Surgery is Tuesday morning at 9:00am. Our daughter and her family spent most of the week with us. The went to Nashville on Sunday afternoon and came back late Tuesday evening. It was our whole family who went to the Ripley's Believe It Or Not Museum one day. It was very interesting. Also, we drove through Cade's Cove on Friday and we saw lots of deer and one big bear. It was a nice ride through there and we stopped at the Old Grist Mill where they still grind corn. My husband bought some cornmeal and we made cornbread for supper tonight. It was very good but I had a hard time eating it because of my hiatal hernia and the stomach up in the hiatal hernia. I sure hope it gets better after the surgery. We also went to a Salt ...

Upcoming vacation!

We will be leaving for vacation on Saturday morning and she and her family will be going with us. We are going to Gatlinburg. We are looking forward to the time together to do things around Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge and also visit my brother and his wife. This week I have appointments of some kind everyday and plan to get together with some friends to eat. I won't be able to go out to eat for a while after surgery. I'm going to really enjoy my vacation time with family. We won't be back until the 26th and then I will be doing a few things and get ready for surgery. Please continue to pray for me.

Update on hiatal hernia!!!!

Today I went to the doctor and spent about 45 or 50 minutes in his office and listening to the procedure that he will be doing to repair my hiatal hernia and fix my stomach in place. It is a very detailed surgery and he will do it as laparoscopic surgery. The surgery will take about 4 hours. Please pray that all will go well. He said I would probably lose about 15 pounds after this surgery. For at least three weeks I can't eat bread and I can't remember but I believe it was about 6 weeks for steak, pork, chicken, or any kind of meat. He said there will be a lot of swelling in that area where he will be working and I'll have to be on soft foods for a while. He said even 6 weeks after the surgery I will feel fuller quicker and won't eat as much. This sounds like a very serious surgery and I would appreciate all the prayers that I can get. Please pray for me and for the doctor doing the procedure that all will go well.

Things we are doing!

Today we went to her house that is being built and my husband helped Cheryl and her husband sort through some lumber he wanted to keep. The builder is planning to haul it away on Monday so Brian wanted to go through it first. We spent most of the day there. The house is really coming along nice and I think they will enjoy the place once it is finished. It is exciting to see the different stages of the house. We plan to go back down on Tuesday. My husband is cutting wood from the trees they had cut down and we are hauling it home to put in our woodstove in the winter time. We heat our house with wood. Thus far, we have been able to get wood free and we have been using a woodstove since 1985 to heat our house. In three weeks we will be going to Gatlinburg for a week's vacation. I'm looking forward to going there but I know it will be crowded. Gatlinburg is really a tourist trap but it will be enjoyable anyway. I am always ready to go on vacation. We have three other vacation...

Update on Endoscopy

This morning I had my endoscopy and the doctor wants me to see a surgeon. He says my hiatal hernia is large and the stomach is twisted in the hernia. I have an appointment with the surgeon on July 3rd. The doctor this morning says I need my hernia repaired and my stomach tacked down. Not much else going on. I'm just trying to recover from today. I was put to sleep and have been sleeping some since I came home.
