Substituting: weeks 1 & 2

7 days of subbing and 7 different campuses. 3 MS, 2 elem, and 2 HS. Here are the lessons I am learning. First, don't judge the grade level by the cover (reputation,) alone. I went to 3 campuses in 3 days and could tell a difference in each in regard to the behavior of the students (generally speaking.) In addition to the school as a whole, sometimes its just that the teacher has no classroom management skills, which in turn means they think they can walk all over you too. Secondly, 5th graders, though still in elementary school, have attitudes just as bad as middle schoolers. I had kids talk back to me rudely, insult me to my face, and I also broke up a confrontation between a boy and girl...(and the girl probably would have won if a fight had started.) My third lesson learned has been the joys and frustrations of resource room teaching. For those that do not know, the special ed resource room is the room for students that have academic delays and/or behavior issues. I ha...

My weekend...my week

So my weekend was amazing! Of course that may be in part because I spent it with a certain someone...or it could also be because I got to see the Mavs play!!! I love going to sporting events, something about live is just way more fun. haha, okay, well mostly because of that certain someone. Anyways, tonight I had an exam that I have been freaking out about ever since I got home Sunday night. It wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. I may actually do just as decent as the first exam. I will say this Lit class is very difficult for me, it just isn't my thing! Tomorrow is my substitute orientation and then Thursday I have an exam in my Child Dev. course. Grr, definately need to study for that! I think Saturday will be my last day of work at Rack Room Shoes. :) I really don't even want to go in tomorrow considering I have an exam to study for and also a project to turn in for history by Thursday (its an early due date worth 10% extra credit...this is a 300pt projec...

School and work

School first: Out of my first round exams (that I took 3 weeks ago) I only know the score of 3 of them. You know I got an 84 on my history exam, I got a 77 in Amer. Lit, and a 78 in Child Dev. I have no idea what I got on my GOVT exam and my next exam is on the 27th. I know I can do better in my Child Dev. class. There is no reason why I shouldn't have had an A on that... I just didn't study thoroughly enough. I expect 80-85 on all of my history exams because it is so reading intense that I don't get it all read. Honestly, my LIT class is hard and as of last night I have an 81% in the class and my next exam is next Tuesday. I must do better than 77!!! I know I wont get an A in the class for 2 reasons: 1) this stuff really isn't my cup of tea 2) I don't have as much time as I need to work on my final paper or study for the essay questions on our exams (which she expects to be 4-6 pages handwritten, one-sided, doublespaced.)Ok so enough about school. Maybe once I quit my job a...

Sorry it's been awhile...

there just hasn't been anything really exciting to report. School is fine, my time management skills aren't so fine. Work is frustrating, wishing I didn't have to be there but I do. Round 1 of exams is done...tonight I find out what my first history exam score is. NOT excited about this! with having to work FT and go to school FT for the first time I have realized it's not easy at all. I can't find a routine because my work schedule changes from week to week, (the only day that ever stays the same is Wednesday.) I am however going to apply to be a substitute teacher in the Bryan ISD and hopefully meet with someone about whether it's stable work or if they don't really need someone everyday. Even though substituting may not pay so well I feel there are too many benefits to ignore. Weekends off, a steady schedule that will allow me to establish a routine, holiday vacation off...which might mean I get to go home for the holidays, it is in my career field, and the list could go ...

Work, school, life in general...

OK so I really loved my first week of school... it's the work I now have to do in preparation for the start of week 2 and all subsequent weeks I am not sure about. Stress is sure to creep in, but hopefully tomorrow I can get soooo much HW done that it will delay another week. I love my History instructor, I am going to love going to class every week and hearing his stories. 30% of our final grade is a scavenger hunt!Work is fine. The assistant manager and I are communicating well (which we weren't doing prior to this week,) we have agreed to be tolerant of the fact that we are polar opposites and work with eachothers strengths and leave our personal opinions aside. She told me she didn't understand why I wanted to be an asst mgr if this job wasn't my # one priority in life. There was no way I could have been honest and told her I only hold this job because I have to work and it pays better than any other stinkin job around here...and that if I could I would rather not work and...

quick update on life

I finsihed my last summer class on Monday...I got a C. Sucks, but whatever, life goes on, just glad it's done!Work is busy, easy, but busy. I will probably be putting in some overtime this next week. The new place is cute, I have an awesome roomie to share the upstairs with. We'll see how getting 2 more roomies who have to share a bedroom 10' X 12' will work out. *nervous*School starts in 2 1/2 weeks and I have no money to pay for school and no way of knowing how I am going to get that money yet. I was denied financial aid because I have too many credits. Monday I will be turning in a letter of appeal to the financial aid appeals committee and I should find out by the 18th whether I will get loans or not. Until then it is just a wait and pray kind of thing. Also, it's looking like I am going to need additional loans because my job doesn't cover all of my outgoing expenses.Thats it for now. I have to be at work in half an hour. Hope everyone else is doing well.

Job update

I should find out Monday about the job. Here is what I was told before leaving my interview yesterday. "Jim and I will be making our decision on Monday, expect to hear from us then. We will be talking to a couple of other applicants today, but I must say, you are ranking pretty high up there. If everything works out, be prepared to start Thursday and wear clothes you can get dirty in, we will begin processing 1,200 cases of shoes."When a district manager tells you that you "rank pretty high up there," and that they are only talking to a couple of other people, and you already know the manager likes you... a person can't help but feel confident about the situation. I will just keep praying through the weekend! I have to remember not to count my chickens before they hatch. I would hate the phone call on Monday to be a bitter disappointment!Alright, time to make something of my Saturday afternoon and evening! Toodles~
