Growing older

had its advantages. Recently I was told by a young lady "we learned what old people are good for." Several young people went on a little vacation with some older folks and the driver had a handicap tag. It's nice not have to walk a long distance and have free parking in the parking garage. I wouldn't know because I'm not yet to that point!I have, however, learned we can get by with not always getting things accomplished. Mike seems to overlook things when I forget. When we were younger, he wasn't always so patient if I didn't get things done. Maybe it's only because he's getting forgetful as well. This morning I remembered there was something I needed in the bedroom. I even remembered I needed my glasses for the task. I put on my reading glasses but by the time I reached the bedroom (had to take a little detour) I couldn't remember what it was I was there to do. I still haven't remembered!

Mama's Butter Roll

I grow a little melancholy at times and have decided to post a few memories for a few days.My mother, Lessie Mae Fincher Barnes, was born in 1911. She died at the age of 91 after a battle with breast cancer which spread through her body. She was a strong woman and survived many trials of her patience and faith. This is a recipe our family would beg her to make from time to time. I don't think she ever refused anyone and the last time she made it was not long before she passed from this life.Mama didn't use recipes but my niece, Karen, watched as she made this (one of the last times) and tried to measure the ingredients. It's still not exactly like Mama's but it comes pretty close.Mama would say she just made a dough like she was making biscuits (roll it out thin) and then smeared butter on it and then sprinkled sugar on top of that, rolled it up and put more butter and sugar on top and baked it til it was done and then heated milk, sugar and vanilla flavoring together and poured t...

wedding plans underway

Amanda and Alan decided on the location, we found a caterer and, hopefully, the baker. We should receive the proposal for food and cakes within a few days.If Amanda likes their colors... yellow roses, we will order from 2Groses.com (freshflowers.com). We can get bulk flowers for the price of 3 bouquets or arrangements from a florist. She wants simple...hand-tied bouquets of yellow roses and white tulips. I'm spending a lot of time online shopping, planning but I'm enjoying it. I just hope A & A enjoy their day and have wonderful memories.

I love a bargain!

My husband called me from Sears last night. He shops a LOT for tools on clearance. He wanted to know if I would like a Nesco18-Qt. Roaster Oven (it's made like a slow cooker) regular price $69.99 marked down to $9.99. What was I supposed to say? It is enegry efficient, since I don't have to turn on the big oven, and won't heat up the kitchen. I can bake, steam/poach, slow cook, roast...up to a 22 lb. turkey! Will let you know how it works.
