I am so bad about getting on here! I'm one of those people who like facebook a little better than pleo and tend to get on there way to much and not at all on here. Regardless...I need to update! Hmmm....so right now we are on spring break. This school year is flying and i'm becoming closer to reality that Ashton is indeed going to Kinder. in less than a year, actually less than6 months now. I just keep telling myself that I am strong, he will be okay and he will love it! I know he will because he loves school now :) He loves his friends, and he is doing wonderful academically. On another note..as everyone knows our little neice was born back in December and she has been such a wonderful addition to our family :) The kids love "baby Hannah" and Alayna likes to help take care of her and Ashton just likes to make her smile. It's really sweet. It's fun having a baby in the family that is not my own, know what I mean ;) Our winter is coming to and end...at least we all hope it is! We have had a cold, wet, windy...winter and we are ready for our sunny warm days to return and I think they are. We do not have any exciting plans this summer, but I know we will have some fun days with friends and keep busy until school (work for me) starts again. Have a great summer everyone :)

I think a lot of us are in the same Facebook boat. I find it harder and harder to post on here. It is funny to finally understand the saying, "Enjoy every minute, they grow up fast". Age (and kids) sure does change your perspective on time.

I like both. Facebook for short updates and here if you want to write an article or something longer. I can't wait for our family not-my-own baby to get here. Spoil her and give her back will be the new rule!

For me Pleo is more personal, but I like to get on Facebook and just write a quick note. ~ I'm ready for Spring! :)

I noticed that everyone is getting on facebook more and more. I'm so glad spring is coming. I am ready for some nice weather! Baby Hannah is so sweet. :) Being an aunt is fun because you can do all the spoiling but not all the hard work. lol!

I agree. They both have their advantages. I do like the family feel of Pleo though.
I bet school will go great for Ashton!

I hope you've enjoyed your work so far - I love teaching little ones! I'll miss it, I'm sure, but I think being a mommy at home will be great! And I can always visit - even though my whole class will be in Kindergarten next year - *sob*.

Having a lazy day...

So that's okay right? To have a lazy day once in a while :) I'm spending my morning doing some posts on craigslist...and on here as well. If anyone in interested in some girls 6-12 month gymboree...check out the "raising girls" group! So that's what I've been doing today. It's been so nice outside, we had a lot of rain this past weekend. It's cooled off our 100 degree weather a lot! In fact I've had the windows open all morning today....until a few minutes ago when I had to rush around really fast and close them because there was strong skunk smell coming in from outside. That is NOT OK!!! :) Work is going GREAT, I really like it there and my little class is just as cute as they can be. They are doing wonderful. Ashton is loving his class too, so i'm happy for him. So my sister is due in December and we are all looking forward to meeting our new little cousin. I havn't told Ashton yet...I'm waiting until it's closer so he will understand a little better. Have a great week!
  • ewalker
I am SO with you on the weather... I'm not missing the 100 degree days at all! Our grass is just starting to turn green again :) Yesterday I took the kids and their friends outside to play a game of baseball... usually it has just been too stinkin hot!

I'm so excited for your sister. I was telling her last Saturday that I can't believe she is already this far along! Yay!

Jacob is really good about telling me he needs to go potty when were shopping. He just gets distracted when we're at home. I'm really proud of his progress! ~ We should get together and watch Amazing Race! Which team are you going for? We like the OK cowboys and I kinda like the Grandmother & grandaughter team too.

End of....

So one week from today two things come to and end, my status as stay at home mom...and also my twenties. I'm not sure wich on I'm more sad about. I'm looking forward to working at the preschool three days a week, it's actually going to be really fun and great for Ashton! But I am not unaware of the fact that my whole families routine is about to change a lot. It's not like I'm working full time....not even close, but it is changing our routine drastically. Shawn will be working from home two days a week while I go to work and Alayna will be spending much more time with my mother :) It's going to be good for us in so many ways though...financially for us, and socially for Ashton ;) Well...the later "end" is a little bit more sad for me. I'm not depressed over turning 30....it's just that time has gone by so fast! Where does it go? I just seems like no time at all when I was celebrating my 21st with my roomates in Bowling Green! Then over the course of the next 9 years I've gotten married, moved SEVERAL times...and had two children. I have to admit though....I do feel old now. Well heres to all of us who are older than we really feel! Have a wonderful week :)

Good luck to you as things are changing in your life & routine! Best wishes to all!!!

I turned 42 this year. Drew and Cassie are now 14 and 10 (I'll let Jill tell her own age). I know what you mean about going by fast. Everyone tells me it goes by even faster as you get older. I believe it. But I feel like I'm 16 and I act like I'm 12 so my age doesn't matter. No matter what your age, live life to the fullest. Enjoy 30!!!!

Advice please..

I know some of you have had your children in Karate and Soccer before. My question is which one do you think benefit them more? We have an opportunity to do a 6 week karate class, but Ashton says he doesn't want to do it. He is shy and I know he won't like it....at first :) But I think he will love it once he gets into it. On the other hand, soccer registration is this month for fall and he says he wants to do soccer. I think he will like soccer, but it will take up a lot of time with practice and games on Saturdays. So I dont know what is best. I know he can always do one or the other later...but since this will be his first "extra activity" I want to pick the best one for him :) I would love to hear what advice you have on either one! Thanks!!

I'm a big fan of team sports! I think there is so much that children learn in team sports that is valuable to them throughout their lives. I'm not a fan of soccer...lol...but would pick the team sport over the individual sport any day!

Mark is a coach and he thought kids shouldn't be in team sports until they were 8. It was something about the fact that they just don't get the team concept until then. They get just as much out of just running and playing with the family and other kids. I didn't have strong feelings about it, but I was glad to have the free Saturdays until then. Between 4 kids we have spent many Saturdays by the soccer field. I am glad that it was a few years less of weekends tied up than it could have been. Having said that those little kids sure are cute as they attempt the team sports!

We have been very hesitant to get our kids involved in too much. We haven't done either of the ones you're thinking about, but we did consider the martial arts at one time because it was something Seth and Mark could do together and they teach a lot of lessons like self-control, respect, etc. At the time we were thinking about it we were wanting Seth to learn that discipline. We ended up moving and haven't looked into it here. I'm sure he would benefit from either one. As a mom, the 6 weeks is more appealing. Like you said, soccer will be time consuming.

I say do the one he wants. Soccer is great even if they don't quite get it. The exercise is wonderful!

Summer time, summer time, sum..sum...summertime!

I know it's so old to say this...at least if you live in central TX. But it's been so hot, I can't WAIT until winter. I say winter, because here....we don't really have fall. One day we will wake up and it will be cold :) It's been the hottest summer on record in like 25 years! So all of you who are saying "hmmmm...we've had a un normally cool summer this year" deem yourselves lucky! Did I mention we are in the middle of an extreme drought as well...yep! We are not allowed to water our yard except for 1 day a week. Anyway, enough about that. We've stayed busy this week. Nothing really that exciting besides our trip to Kentucky a few weeks ago. That was really a lot of fun. This week is VBS and I'm teaching the toddler class. I tell you....it is THE most challenging class ever. Those of you who say "Why? they are toddlers? It's not like you have to make a lesson plan" I say to you, "exactly!" :) We have 1 hour to fill with attention spans of 2 minutes :) If anyone has any ideas on what to do with 18 month olds for the parable of the unmerciful servant....please contact me, I would love to hear them :) They love to sing, we we've been doing a lot of that. In a couple of weeks, I will be starting work myself at a Christian preschool teaching 4 year olds. I'm really looking forward to it! Ashton will be attending (not in my class) and I can't wait for him to experiance having preschool friends and learn all the fun things we have in our cirriculum. I will only be working on Mon, Wed. and Fridays...from 9-1 wich is perfect for a mommy! Alayna is almost 2 now. Well, she will be 2 in November, and that will be here before we know it! She's really differen't than Ashton. It's odd how two children can be so differen't. She is very adventurous, independant and lets face it....a little sassy. She is my little princess though. Ashton is growing into a little man. He held open the car door for me the other day. It was SO sweet. I'll leave you with a recent pic of them. Hope all are doing well...stay cool :)

Hmmm... center ideas. I try to mix my educational centers in with a center that a teacher does not have to run. Like I'd have a counting/recognizing number game going on while there's a sensory center (water/bean/rice table) going on. Or a recognizing letter game going on while some kids are in the listening center (if your school has that sort of thing). I'll make certain play areas centers too - like blocks and cars or an art table or just books & puzzles. There are a TON of websites for preschool lesson/activiy ideas, if you need some. I have a list of a bunch, if you want them. Let me know! Good luck.
