Yes, for those of you who might not have known, I turned the fabulous 50 on November 2. Boy, how time flies when you are having fun. As I look back over the past fify years of my life, I can certainly see a lot things that have changed. Not only just my life, but life in general. A friend of mine gave me a letter that I would like to share with you. This letter appeared on the internet, so I hope you haven't already read it. However, I do not believe that it would be a bad idea to read it more than once. I do not know who wrote the letter. It just states: Submitted by concerned citizen.
Here is a copy of the letter:
The other day, someone at a store in our town read that a Methamphetamine Lab had been found in an old farmhouse in the adjoining county and he asked me a rhetorical question, "Why didn't we have a drug problem when you and I were growing up?" I replied, "I had a drug problem when I was younger: I was drug to church on Sunday morning. I was drug to church for weddings and funerals. I was drug to family reunions and community socials no matter the weather. I was drug by my ears when I was disrespectful to adults. I was also drug to the woodshed when I disobeyed my parents, told a lie, brought home a bad report card, did not speak with respect, spoke ill of the teacher or the preacher, or if I didn't put forth my best effort in everthing that was asked of me.
I was drug to the kitchen sink to have my mouth washed out with soap if I uttered a profanity. I was drug out to pull weeds in mom's garden and flower beds and cockleburs out of dad's fields. I was drug to the homes of family, friends, and neighbors to help out some poor soul who had no one to mow the yard, repair the clothesline, or chop some firewood, and, if my mother had ever known that I took a single dime as a tip for this kindness, she would have drug me back to the woodshed.
Those drugs are still in my veins and they effect my behavior in everything I do, say, or think. They are stronger than cocaine, crack, or heroine; and if today's children had this kind of drug problem, America would be a better place.
God bless the parents who drugged us.
Well, I guess you could say that I am "beginning" and yes, I said "beginning" to show my age. I can certainly relate to this letter because my parents drugged me in a somewhat similar manner which has helped me to become the Christian that I am today. I believe I am also guilty of drugging my own child, which I am thankful I did because of the person he is today.
What does the future on earth hold for me? Only God can answer that question. But as the song that we sometimes sing says, " My deepest pray'r, my highest goal, That I may be like Jesus" I want to live the rest of my life "So that a watching world may see His likeness shining forth in me. I want to be like Jesus." And I pray that this will be your desire as well.
I am sorry that this is so lengthy, but it seems the older I get the more I have to say. Can you imagine how much I will have to say when I am turning 100:-)
getting there, Jacob's family is coming on either monday or tuesday. I've got my groceries, but still need to get one of the rooms cleaned up (My suitcase of off-season clothes still needs to be unpacked).
What are you doing for thanksgiving? Going up to GA?
They've been predicting snow flurries here almost every day lately-It's SOOOO COLD! We did have some light flurries on Sunday morning, but it didn't stick.
Good thoughts! I enjoyed your post. Yes, I have read it before but it nrver hurts to read it again.......especially with MY memory......I tend to forget things anyway if I am not reminded.......(er......now what was I saying again...? )
Well, our Gospel Meeting has ended. It was great to see and spend some time with Jim and Paige. Now that Jim's Lessons are over, it is up to me to put the words that were preached into action. Jim did an outstanding job of reminding me of why I believe what I believe. Now I need to get busy teaching others so that they will know the truth and have the hope of Heaven one day. After all this "Is" the most important work that anyone will accomplish.
I am so thankful that Joel Holt was able to attend our meeting on Thursday Night. It was so good to get to see and spend some time with him. I just wish Anna could have been with him. If she would have came, we would have pulled out the old Rook cards and played a couple of hands.
Well, with a new week ahead of us, let's all remember to be busy doing God's Will, which is the most important work to be done. And yes, I will end my sermon right there for those of you who are thinking, "oh no here comes another one of her sermons".
woof, woof! yep, my DAWGS were barkin' saturday! i got to listen to all of 2nd half and the last few minutes of the 1st half on the radio, even though it was vandy announcers. maybe this W will propel us to more W's and we'll get on a roll the rest of the season. glad you enjoyed the funnies! would i be one of those thinking, "oh no! here comes another one of her sermons!"?? ;)
whoa! slow down! i didn't say i was rooting for bama or anything. just saying that's probably what will happen b/c we can't seem to find a way to win this year. GO DAWGS!!
Our Gospel Meeting at North Jasper is scheduled for October 5th -10th at 7:00 PM with Jim Deason. We will be having a singing at 3:00PM on Sunday. Please come and bring someone with you to hear a message preached from God's Word.
I had a wonderful evening with ya'll last night. Thanks for McDonalds and for the belated wedding gift! Tell everyone Sunday how good it was to see them all again.
On Friday Night we watched Walker beat up McAdory. McAdory is ranked fourth in the State. Alex, my nephew plays for Walker and we enjoy going and watching him play. ABC/3340 came to the game. It was exciting to see the helicopter land and Mike Raita on the sidelines. They showed a clip of Walker's game on the Friday Night Blitz. Way to go Walker!
Anna and Jacob (who I still miss tremendously) called. I always love to hear from them. I wish we could come and see you, but you know how much we travel. GA and Princeton are usually the only two places that we visit. GA being our favorite and wishing we could go there now :-)
Saturday, James and Lisa and Drew and Alex came over and we watched the Tide roll over some team from KY. It was a great game. We feasted on chicken and baked beans and homemade chocolate ice creaam while screaming with every touchdown that Bama made. I must confess that I was a little mean to Alex. I had bought Alabama plates and napkins to use. Oh, I forgot to mention that Alex is a huge Auburn fan. He wasn't real excited about eating his food on an Alabama plate. the plates looked great. They had Roll Tide written all around the edge of the plate and a huge red "A" in the Middle of the Red and Black plate. The napkins matched perfectly. Well, Alex didn't hang around for the Bama game, he got his belly full of Alabama while we ate and then he decided to go to the fair that was in town. I can't imagine anyone not wanting to watch the Tide play ball.
We watched the end of the Auburn/Miss State game. Wow! The score was Auburn-3 State-2. Enough said about that game. The score sayss it all.
Well, I hope everyone's week is full of celebrations.
hello, barbara!!! i've been meaning to come say hi for a while now, and i keep forgetting! i hope you and david are doing well...i'm gonna have to come down and visit. i miss seeing you guys. i wish i could have made it to the going away party, but i just couldn't get away. hope you have a great week!!!
i can understand perfectly why someone would rather go to the fair than watch a bama game. but at least you've admitted you were a little mean to alex. it looks like you're making a little progress! :)
ok, there's another baby in the NICU now so they're not letting Marie hold Ethan much, so she's pretty upset about that. But she's being discharged today (but will probably get to stay in a small room at the hospital tonight), and Ethan should be able to go home tomorrow.
I don't take credit for my sermons. Hopefully they're from God's Word, so I give Him the credit. But as to your question, no, the guy I baptized doesn't sleep through my sermons. :) Giles, Cindy, Judson & Amelita Portzer were here Sun. morning. It was so good to see them! Now that means y'all gotta come make an appearance! Ha!
