I fell asleep while I was praying last night, I don't know if I finished my prayer. If you were a third party voter, please don't feel like you wasted or threw away your vote. The message will get through, somehow.
After we heard the results, I thought about Israel when they told Samuel, "Give us a king!" Samuel's message of warning didn't sway them, they still wanted a king. Samuel's warnings became reality. Then, I thought about all the versus that say, "And there was no king in Israel, everyone did what was right in their own eyes."
Will our nation open their eyes over the next 4 years? Will it take warnings and certain events to prick the hearts of the hard-hearted? Our hope is the remnant. Our hope is God.
We just need to work one heart at a time to persuade them to the truths of God's Word. When men see the need for dependency on God, then changes will be made.
The spiritual reality of our country is definitely saddening. I was reminded of this similar situation with the Israelites and thought about some of the horrific, evil kings that God allowed to rule His children. Despite the evil, God used them to send a message and ultimately to do His will. I believe our nation needs to look for God's message regarding our current state and be reminded of the perfect home that awaits us.
Okay, we had a great time Friday night! It was so much fun to see everyone's costumes and play some games and just visit. I was VERY impressed with her's and her's costumes that they made. Great job ladies!!
I had fun making mine and Carie's, Curtis' vest and Harley's bell bottoms. I don't know if I'll be sewing anything for a while. I need to catch up on some housework I neglected. But, as JoAnn's or Hancock's has sales, I'll be watching for some specific materials. I am also hoping to get a better sewing setup down in the basement. Couple things on my list: a new dress form (I have my mother's old one and it's lost several important components); a large L-shaped sewing table; a table-top ironing board along with a small-plate iron(Betty told me about that); a serger/embroidery machine; and some more presser feet for my machine. I found out that the only store in this area that sells parts for my machine is in Hoopeston, a little over half-an-hour from my house.
I look forward to making alterations on several dresses in the next couple of months and I still have a skirt for April that I need to alter. Sorry Apes! I just found it in one of my sewing boxes and the ribbon is still with it!
OH!! We were at Border's the other day and while the kids were browsing I looked up some sewing books there. They didn't have a big selection for sewing clothes, but there were some good ones. There's several in the "Sew U" collection that looked easy to follow. Nice pictures, well worded instructions. There were a few for more advanced sewing as well, "Fashion" something or other was in the title. I put some books on my list as well.
I am going to attempt to post some pictures of costumes later.
Your dress was so cool!! We made an utter disaster of my house with our projects, but I'm sure Kendra kept up with hers. I'll be working on that tomorrow!
Kendra sort of kept up with hers. I put everything away and swept the floors, but I still feel like I have loose threads hanging from everything! Your dress was amazing. It would have taken me a lifetime! What is a table-top ironing board. It sounds like something I need.
Hey, don't worry about the skirt. Save it for Carie....she'll probably fit into it sooner than I will. Besides, that piece of ribbon is probably too small now, too. HA! Can't wait to see pictures of the costumes.
My grandfather should be going home today. The doctors were pleased with his recovery and test results. They were conducting a few more tests this morning before they discharged him. His doctor figured he might as well run extra tests on various things to rule out any other problems. None were invasive, except for the blood drawing.
Currently, I'm working on some sewing projects, it's kept me pretty busy but I am having fun. I've always wanted to design and make wedding dresses, especially modest ones as most of the ones I see in the magazines these days are strapless, backless, or somewhat tasteless. The more sewing I do, the more practice I get. I made my sister-in-laws dress, half of mine(my mom helped me), I helped make a dress for a former co-worker, too. I enjoyed working on all of those. I look forward to making some alterations to another dress soon.
Who else sews and what are your favorite projects to work on? I am going to attempt to teach my daughter to sew, I hope to have the patience that I will need so that I don't just take it away from her to do myself.
I love to sew simple projects. I wish I knew a lot more than I do. I keep thinking that one of these days I am going to take some classes or something... Too bad we don't live near each other. I might sit in on those classes with your daughter.:)
I learned sewing basics while I was high-school age. I leanded substantially more from Betty C oncwe I moved here. Christa nad I are currently working on her Halloween costume, which is the most difficult thing I have made so far.
always wished that i could actually "learn" how to sew instead of having someone tell me what to do every step of the way. it's interesting and a great thing to know, but i never got the hang of it.
