Though the air and water temperatures down at the lake weren't super warm this weekend, we headed down Friday afternoon to play (well, actually, we were supposed to be cleaning up the lake house, getting it ready for the winter), but Mom and Dad are so much better at that than we are. Plus those jetskis needed one final run before sitting all winter and mom is too scared to get on one. Yeah, excuses, I know! Aaron and I had wanted all summer to take the jetskis all the way up the lake (our house is on the far southern end), into Granbury, and even further, just to explore. So, we did that this Saturday morning. Took us 2 hours, my legs felt like I had been riding a horse. Anyway, we saw houses that you could only stare at in amazement. How does one accumulate that much money, especially since these are mostly weekend getaways, not everyday homes? My next question was, who cleans all that space? Ok, if you have that much money, I guess you can afford a maid to come clean on the days you live in your other home. Those houses were a sight to see! Wow!
Well, I did ponder a few interesting things...
*I don't have an interest in that much money or that much house.
*When riding a jet ski, and you hit speeds exceeding 40 mph, don't try to talk to your daughter. When you do, saliva will just roll backward onto your cheeks and it feels gross.
*Also at those speeds, your eyes might water a lot and it clogs your vision...make sure your 7 year old knows how to drive the jet ski so you can wipe your tears and not wreck.
Sounds like you had some more interesting adventures on those jetskis. I know what you mean about not wanting the big house to clean. I feel the same way!
It was good to see you last night...Sorry I had to run off, but Samantha had hurt her back the night before and she fell off the slide and hurt it again, so she was pretty upset. Hope y'all are having fun with your pumpkins.
by her and her. I guess resistance is futile, so here goes.
1. My childhood dream was to be a pro soccer player...I became a teacher.
2. Another dream...purchase and rebuild a 65 Mustang, must be painted candy apple red.
3. I'm working on my Master's Degree, sort of. I've completed 9 hours, can't go further w/o taking the GRE, very scary!
4. Being a Mom is absolutely the BEST job ever!!!!!
5. I could eat Mexican food every day!
6. My favorite hobby is spending time at the lake, jetskiing with my girls.
7. I'm a perfectionist- a high functioning one, but nonetheless a perfectionist.
8. I'm obsessive about moving items around, both at home and in my office. Comes from being a military brat, moving each year, things get boring when they stay the same too long.
Scott had a candy apple red 65 mustang, but he sold it to his cousin years ago, who sold it again. His dad still has the 66 silver 289 that we bought together (and sold when we thought we were moving to VA). He just finished restoring the innards (most of the other stuff is original so he didn't touch that). They're fun cars, but Scott and I don't know enough to take care of one. :)
I'm with you on #5. You'll have no problem with GRE - I think I score 30 points more on GRE than SAT but still in the same ballpark. Get a Kaplan study guide and you should be good to go.
#2 is priceless-bet your Dad loved that! Keven has his Dad's old '66 mustang. It's not red, but if you don't mind gold you'll have to take a ride if ya'll ever come this way again! Say 'hello' to everyone there.
I think I knew all of those things about you, except maybe not Mexican EVERY day. The last few weeks I've been loathing Mexican, when I usually love it. Does not sounds good at all!
Rachel informed me tonight that she wasn't sure what she wanted to be when she grew up (I didn't know 3 year olds thought about this). Anyway, she said she was thinking about being an astronaut so she could fly into outer space, but first she would become a pilot like her grandaddy and uncle so she would know how to fly the space ship. That's my girl!! Those are admirable goals!! Then, she changed her mind and decided she would be a "pet doctor" and a mom. Great!! Wonderful goals! After a little more time to ponder her future...Mom, I'm going to be an alien dressed liek a clown (I'm thinking this is a strange line of thought...where did I go wrong raising my child?) So I ask why an alien? Because aliens go around scaring people and that sounds like fun.
Thankfully, little people change their minds on a daily basis! Maybe tomorrow's career path will be more rewarding!
So glad you all came! I really enjoyed having you! We'll do it again soon. I'm trying to invite more from church since so many have been so good to me all through the years.
Hey you, don't know if you visit Facebook or not. Jeremy recently joined and posted some old FC pictures. He put the one with the four of us up there too.
I guess I just look like a person that likes to hear complaints...I heard tons, but this was my favorite conversation from a really nutty first day of school.
Parent: My daughter is in 4th grade in Ms. So and So's room, she stole 19 of her pencils.
Me: Who stole 19 pencils?
P: The teacher.
Me: (Supressing a laugh, yeah this one's gonna be good!) Ok, how can I help you resolve this?
P: I sent 24 pencils with my child and the teacher stole 19 away from her, she says the teacher hid them in a cabinet.
Me: That is very normal, teachers don't want students to have to carry around all their pencils so they put them in safe keeping until they are needed. The student has access to them whenever she runs out of the five she received today.
P: Do you think my house isn't a safe place to keep pencils?
Me: (Again wanting to laugh outloud at the absurdity of this conversation) Sir, Ms. So and So would be glad to return the 19 pencils and you may certainly keep them at home in a safe place.
P: You better make sure they get returned tomorrow.
Me: I will take care of that immediately!
I'm reading it for the 2nd time right now and that is what all of us (Stipes) are trying to implement this year (at least k-2). It's going really well so far. I'm praying that it works and that I'm doing it correctly. We have 2 new instructional specialists this year that are helping implement it as well. What do you think of it?
Wow!! I have all the respect in the world for those of you who so lovingly teach our precious young people. By the way the pics of your girls are beautiful-they have grown so much since we've seen ya'll! Miss ya'll.
I wanted to bring my sister with me but she said she won't be able to leave her place until 4:30. That would mean that she wouldn't be here until after 6:30. Is it too crowded then?
Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers after this tragic week!
My friend/co-worker's murder brought some things to mind:
Talk to everyone about God, whenever you can. My last conversation with Eliana involved understanding what God's will is for our lives and following it, even when it may not be convenient for us in other ways. He is in control!
Even when it seems like prying, know how your friends are really doing. On the flip side, if something is wrong, share it with someone you love and let them help you. My friend was being abused and almost no one knew it.
Anger is strong. I was really angry at her husband. He was sick and needed help. He will answer to God just like the rest of us, I have to let go of that anger.
Get involved, help others. I was also angry with her neighbors that saw him fighting with her in the front yard Monday night. They heard "blood curling screams" during the night as well as the gun shots, thinking they were fireworks. Had they gotten involved, even just called police asking them to drive by to check, maybe things would have been different.
Sometimes I get caught up in my daily affairs and forget that I am a pilgrim in this land and it ends on God's time, not mine.
Please continue to pray for Eliana's family, who all live in Argentina and had not seen her in a long time. Please pray for his family who have to live with what their son did. Please continue to pray for our school staff...we've lost two teachers and two students in the last few years, people are trying to understand why things keep happening to this wonderful school. Please pray for me to be able to talk to my friends and co-workers about the nature of God and how we need to grow closer to Him, rather than blame Him for these tradegies.
We heard this AM service how tragedies and troubles are really opportunities from God. You have spoken well, Heather, and we all need to listen. Thanks so much for sharing! Love you all!
