But this time, it was to walk down the street about 5 minutes and back to the house.
I'm out of shape, Friends, and just wanted to say *pleonastically publicly* that I'm getting back into my walking routine! I said it; you heard it; I'm on my way!!
Walk? *Check*
Leave me a cheer! More points if your cheer rhymes! LOL! |

Katie and I are in a library right around the corner from their home. I've been reading about your lives and trying to catch up, but I think it will take a lot longer than we have this afternoon! I'm having a great time just "hanging" with my gal.
We left Houston at 6am on Tuesday morning. Katie and I followed Nick the whole way (the only time we got in front of him was to pay his toll on the beltway when he didn't have cash), so we pretty much have the words on the back of the big yellow Penske memorized!
The townhouse Katie and Nick are renting is brand new and very nice. If you gotta rent, being the first is the best opportunity! I've been unpacking boxes and putting things away when I can. You should see the wonderful walk-in pantry Katie has. It's at least 8 feet deep with about 5 rows of shelves on each side. I told Katie if she can't find something after I leave, look in the pantry!
We've been hunting for a refrigerator. They want a used one for now; holding off for the new one when they can someday get their first home.
I've met most of the brethren here in the church and look forward to meeting more on Sunday. We aren't far from St. Louis, and I can't wait to get Gene up here on vacation for a trip there to see the sites.
Nick will preach his first two sermons here as the local preacher on Sunday. I'm thrilled to be a part of this occasion! Sunday afternoon between worship services, we hope to visit the congregation at Wentzville where Demspey Collins preaches. I haven't seen Dempsey since FC days, I don't believe. His son will be preaching in this special series they hold for the summer Sundays in the mid-afternoon.
Have already made contact with members here who are related to folks we knew in Owensboro, KY, where the kids were born. I love the small world feel among Christians!
Well, need to scoot. I'll be flying home next Tuesday afternoon. I sure miss Gene, but we talk everyday at least twice. Thank you for letting me come, Sweetie! |

The folks from the Cyfair congregation gave Nick and Katie a going away party tonight, and so generously invited Gene and me and Jacob and Ellen (our other two favorite things!). It was a luscious, all-sweets gathering with lots of love in the air, some *roasting* of Nick, and thoughtful gifts. Not only have they been good for Nick and Katie the last year and a half, but Gene and I have made a lot of new friends as well.
The truck is packed and we'll pull out Tuesday morning.
Note to self: Don't be late!

This quarter, I have been co-teaching with Rebecca's mother. She wanted the chance to teach Rebecca before promotion takes place at the beginning of October. In the next level of classes, men are assigned to teach.
Many of you remember Rebecca. She's the precious little girl who has Cystic Fibrosis. Rebecca is truly special, and when she came to class tonight, she and I reminisced about the past 2 1/2 years. When we moved to Rosenberg, she and I began in the Kindergarten-2nd grade class and have been together ever since. I was a little nervous...and so was she. She was the ONLY kindergartener at the time. She couldn't read, but her listening skills placed her right up there with the older ones.
Rebecca is the epitome of grace. In the face of all that she has to do to maintain a healthy state with the CF, she's a jewel.
Tonight, when Rebecca and her mother came into the classroom, her mother told her to tell me what is worse than CF. Rebecca said "Boils!"
You see, today something very unusual had happened. Rebecca had a melt down while going through her breathing treatments. Her mother says this happens about once every two years. "Why me?" she asked her mother, "Why do I have to have this CF? What did I do to deserve this?!"
Rebecca's mother took her to the book of Job and reminded her of the struggles of a righteous man. Rebecca was reminded and convinced that she didn't have it so bad.
I don't even want to think about promotion time. Rebecca has taken a hold of my heart (as well as the hearts of many others). She's not the only one her age anymore; two other boys will move up with her.
This old heart of mine is aching with all the changes about to take place. But I would be selfish to hold onto my precious girls. I love them both too much and want to see them fly! |
