Odds and Ends 10-24-07 05:44pm PST
The fires are still growing in Southern California. My folks are fine, but there are many around them and in the congregation that have been evacuated. My folks say they can see the flames on the hills surrounding them and the air quality is very poor. Please keep them in your prayers.

Good sweet friend Jamie Wilson is trapped at Pepperdine. I'm not sure of the details of why she was unable to get out and go home, but she is in need of your prayers.

Our Miss Maggie, is safe home for the time being.

============================================================

Noah is 3 now. We had a fun-filled birthday for him. Last Saturday, we took him on his first train ride. So, it wasn't a real train, but close enough. We took BART to San Francisco and walked down Pier 39. He got to see the sea lions and the ocean and even came home with a souvenior Trolley! What a fun day!

=============================================================

Today is United Nations day. Noah had his first program at school. It was halarious! He didn't know all the words to most of the songs, so he just sat there and made faces. Seriously, what else is a boy to do with all that free time?!?!? He had an audience and music playing, so might as well enjoy the stage!

We then went to the classrooms and ate food from around the world. It was fun. He didn't have an Fijian outfit, but Sean had bought Kyle an outfit from China years ago, so I put that on him instead. He had fun, and played the part!

I made Jambalaya and I guess you could say that it is a food from USA. Does Creole have a nation? (j/k)

===========================================================

justjoeyhad no idea you were on here! i love the place. i'm about a minute walk from the church building. oh, and we'll definitely learn that song and ANY other that you'd like to sing. we should have a church talent show some weekend!
sarahtidwellSorry to hear about your friend being trapped at Pepperdine. Also, I had been wondering how far you were from the fires. I do hope and pray that your family will stay safe. Are you anywhere near there?
cbairdNoah has been on a REAL train before! Remember last year when we road the train for GG's bday? Speaking of bday's... I'm seriously behind but I DO have presents to send!! I'll have to get Brian to go to the Post Office for me tomorrow.
holliback2Cute Pics and will keep you all in my prayers.
wordwielderThree is such a fun age.
terryfrancisLots of memories from those pictures. I was there for the Friends Tour our freshman year. Someone got pooped on by a seagull at Pier 39. I think it was Mr. Dugger.
cbairdWill you be going to see GG any time soon??
cbairdHe checks it... but I'm not sure how often.

I was asking about GG because I have a couple of pictures from here that I don't know who the people are in them. I sent them to Chris but I guess he's out-of-town right now. :o( If you aren't going there soon, then I can wait for Chris to get back.
cbairdThe pictures are old family photos. (I'll email them to you). Did you take any of the pictures GG was getting rid of? I know I took some, Lynn has some and Mom has some.
bbeasleyHappy birthday Noah! Great pictures - what fun!!

Stay safe..we'll keep you and your family in our prayers.
beckye2happy birthday to Noah. I am praying for everyone out there. Jeff's brother is in San Deigo.
travelagentwendiWhat a great birthday! That looks like so much fun. We are kicking around the idea of taking the kids on the train ride through the grand canyon. I have never had any desire to do that before but I want my kids to see it. Have you done it?
beckye2Yep, he did at FC
vanessacoxSounds like life is good, happy birthday to Noah! Doesn't time just fly???
terryfrancisyou were already on the list

Sean will be traveling to downtown Atlanta, Ga. I was wondering if anyone knows of a sound congregation in that area?

Just got this family photo from a friend. This is our most recent photo. Thought I would share!

We finally have rain! It's just a drizzle, but I am so happy! The Lord provides!

Hope everyone is having an awesome day!

bryanharwellHazel Hair. Sounds kinda like somebody's name. You could introduce yourself as Hazel. Hazel Hair. Or someone could be a beautician at Hazel Hair. The perfect name for a salon that specializes in Jenai's and Bryan's hair. Hey, then you'd have no problem finding a place for your annual and my semi-annual haircuts. And they'd give us a discount, since we have Hazel Hair. ;-)
cbairdDowntown Atlanta is nice. I got to go there last year for the NCTM conference.... but I wasn't there for worship.
matidwellThe congregations I know of in Atlanta are Embry Hills and Powers Ferry. There are few others in the surrounding areas - you could ask her b/c she lives in Atlanta.
matidwellAnd, nice family photo. :)
bbeasleyWhat a great picture of you all!
terryfrancisGreat preacher in Conyers now named Joseph Cassimier. You may have heard him when we were at FC. One of his daughters was there with us.
lorileighWhat a nice looking family!
all_gods_childrenGreat suggestions! Thanks! I'll look up some of the ones suggested above! Surely there will be one in the area of where he's staying!
madtomkiddGo bug Josh or his wife Lisa, or Josh's mom Nancy - they all live in the greater Atlanta area and could offer the closest place to visit (though it will likely be Embry Hills)
cbairdThere is a lot to do in Atlanta if you did go with the kids. :o)
hobbieIt took Ethan a few times to get it. Now that he does get it, he can't cheat anymore. Unless he plays by himself. : )
hobbieBeautiful family!
lyndieLove that pic! You've got a beautiful family! I have a cousin who used to live in the Atlanta area. If I can remember (not so good at that, lately) I'll ask and see about a Church in the area.
lyndieShe said Roswell and Embry Hills are both good and conservative. Hope that helps!
bryanharwellIf you go to Conyers or Covington, you need to remember that's where the first 5 episodes of The Dukes Of Hazzard were filmed. I don't know what church it is, but the original Boar's Nest is now a church of some kind. Interesting.
cbairdHey... will you be traveling to see mom and dad anytime soon??
cbairdI may need a favor. Mom and Dad have TONS of old family photos.... somewhere. Getting them to look for them hasn't been easy so I may need some help. ;o)
sjbGreat picture!! My aunt and uncle attend Embry Hills, if you need yet another contact. =-)
doraI noticed that some folks mentioned to you Embry Hills. That's where Shawn attended while he was in Atlanta. This is a wondeful congregation Pam Duff, her sister Diana and husband Bill attend there and I know they would be happy to help you in any way. If you need any of their contact info I'm sure we can get it for you.
cdillman23Being in NC it was strange hearing how badly they need rain. It is bad everywhere!
sarahtidwellI really think that is a good picture of your family. Thanks for sharing. I was also thinking about Embry Hills. I know there are several around the Atlanta area. You might go to Find The Church.com. We had some rain this past Thursday and Friday and it was so exciting. Not enough to make a dent in the drought but it was welcome anyway.
bryanharwellI like the way you did that picture in the upper left hand corner. That's cool.
bryanharwellRead my blog for some excellent news!
holliback2Hope things are going well for you and you are not effected by all the fires.
holliback2I am glad you all are fine and I will be praying for your folks.

Once a Blonde No More 10-11-07 11:21am PST
Tuesday night I got my annual haircut. Yes, that's right, annual. It's bad. I truly don't like paying a lot of money for getting my haircut, and I can ~always~ think of something else to do with my time.

It just hit me with this last haircut. I'm not a blonde. I've always been blonde, born/raised... Now I've come to the road in my life where something else has changed. Seriously, there's a name for blue/green/brown/yellow/gray eyes, it's called Hazel. Is there really anything to describe dirty blonde/light brown/red hair? (and a little gray...shhhh...don't repeat that) I think I'll have to invent one.

If you could invent a name for hair color that isn't one true color, what would it be?

Can you have hazel hair?
bbeasleyI know what you mean about that annual haircut. Tripp does good with getting his trimmed when it starts growing out - I guess men have to be more diligent about that. I trim the girls hair and bangs. In fact, I just gave Kamryn a cut last week (only her second haircut in her life!). But as for me, I can go forever without a cut, then when I do, I usually get lots cut off.
polaramyHow about brindle? That seems to cover a broad spectrum of animal coats. I guess you need a "striped" look to be brindle. There's got to be a good generic name somewhere. :) I'm an annual cutter, too. I can't imagine what it's like to cut and color your hair every other month. I can definitely think of other things to do with my money, too!
lorileighMy mom always lovingly referred to that color as dishwater blond. :)
cbairdAdd me to the list of annual hair cuts too! For awhile before Hannah was born, I used to go every other month... but not so much anymore! I just can see paying all that money.
all_gods_childrenDishwater blonde, that's funny. Wonder if I can add that to my license?
Did I mention, the haircut cost $60.00? I just can't believe it!!! Every place around here is $60.00 for a haircut! I'm sticker shocked....
bryanharwellSounds like you should have went in for an estimate before you got a haircut. My mother would do it for free if I asked her to, but you would have to take a trip to Alabama. That costs more than $60.00. My hair is a combination of all those hair colors, too. My license says "light brown." However, my mustache (and my beard when I grow it out) is red. Yes, red. But my hair is Dishwater Blonde. And when I say Dishwater, I mean after the dishes were washed in it. In fact, that pot probably soaked all night in there. I like the idea of Hazel hair. I have Hazel eyes, also. What's the deal with colors these days, anyway?
bryanharwellAlso, I don't have to worry about haircuts too much. Sure, I'm a man and I'm supposed to have short hair. I do have short hair. My hair has always grown really, really slow. When I was in school, which was Athens Bible School, I could keep my hair at regulation length with two haircuts per year! In the summertime, lately, I get my hair buzzed as short as possible. Kinda like Curly from the Three Stooges. I do this about every 3 weeks during summer. The last time was at the beginning of August. I have not had a haircut since then, and I'm just now starting to need a comb to comb my hair. By Christmas, it still won't be very long at all. By all comparisons, it will still be short. My hair just grows slow. Really slow. Weird, huh?

Exciting Weekend... 10-08-07 09:21pm PST
Okay, nothing much to post, but thought it was time to put something else on my blog.

Sean and I got a call last minute on Friday evening inviting us to the LPGA Tournament at the Blackhawk Golf Course. This is a beautiful golf course and only 20 miles down the road!

It turned out to be a beautiful Saturday and the Tournament was a lot of fun! I am not a player. (yet..) Sean is working on it! Apparently there were a lot of Rookies this year, but wow they really know how to swing a club! ~whoosh~

I've really taken a liking to Lorena Ochoa. She is amazing to watch! (besides, I like her outfits too!) Okay, so that's the girly side of me talking...hehe.

We are planning on joining our friends and go to the Pebble Beach Golf Course to the AT&T PGA Tournament. Sean talks about this golf course a lot and how pretty it is. He's played there before with Tiger Woods brother. Anyhow, it really sounds exciting and I hope we get the chance to go! (seeing how it's only down the road from us!)

Never thought I would get this excited about golf. Perhaps my husband is rubbing more on me!! ;o)

Hope your weekend was a good one!
sarahtidwellI always thought golg would be enjoyable. I believe I could be pretty good at it but never wanted to pay the fees it required. I always like to watch Tiger Woods playing in a tournament. He is my favorite player.
bryanharwellWhen Holly and I were dating, we used to play miniature golf a lot. I've never played "full-size" golf.
hobbieI took golf at FC. It was fun, but I think I've forgotten everything now!
holliback2What is up with everybody into Golf it is so boring to me I can't stand watching it on T.V. I get so bored and restless.
cbairdGolf... hmmmm... It doesn't seem that exciting to me but then again I don't know much about it. I remember seeing the Pebble Beach Golf Course when Grandpa was still alive. I didn't realize that you lived close to there.
angiemann73Golf - exciting... seems kind of weird to be in the same sentence... lol! I took golf at FC too, but that was because it was an easy A! Sounds like you are having fun sharing the hobby with Sean, though!
hobbieYes, we cut Micah's curls off. :( I don't think they will grow back either. Ethan's never did!
terryfrancisLove golf. We went to the PGA tournament here in Memphis this year. Was awesome.
terryfrancisIt is nice here. Middle Tennessee is prettier. But it's still nice here.
matidwellNot a big golf fan, but I've thought about taking up the game for a variety of reasons.
cdillman23I don't think that golf would be for me. I am not as much into the clothes but cute shoes.
bbeasleyTripp has said before he'd like to take up golf. I don't think he's ever played but he thinks he'd like it.
