Okay.
I know that a few of you will want to skewer me for this, but before you do, I'd like you to know the reasons why I AM voting for Obama, and why I'm NOT voting for McCain.
(I think it's only fair, since I've seen nothing but McCain plugs all over Pleonast for the last, oohhhhh 3-4 months.)
First of all, I am ALL FOR the separation of Church and State. I understand that when the government decides to legislate something that we agree with, we all tend to rejoice. However, I'm not in agreement with this at ALL.
The legislation we had in place was based on Christian principles, true. But they are also based on the foundations of many other monotheistic religions. Our basic laws were laid for the protection of our basic rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. If someone tries to murder us, that's the right to life. If someone tries to steal our stuff, that affects us as well. If someone tries to force you to believe something that you obviously DON'T, that's encroaching on your basic rights as well.
Because of that, I don't think that the marriage of two people of the same sex should be against the law. Frankly, there's nothing in the Constitution that states otherwise. In fact, there's a little something that's called "the pursuit of happiness" in there. And if two *consenting* people want the rights to insurance, hospital visitation, and property disbursement that the rest of us are entitled to, I don't think we can honestly deny them that, which is actually something John McCain and I agree on.
Additionally, Obama wants to give us credits towards college, increase funding for early education, end the war in Iraq responsibly, and ensure that there are alternate forms of energy when the world's oil supply inevitably runs out."Drill, Baby, Drill!" will appease the masses, and people want to HEAR that it will fix our rising oil costs, even though folks like Ron Paul say that due to refinery costs, it won't help a single PENNY to do so.
For the record, here are some things that are absolutely, positively NOT TRUE about Barack Obama, even if you hear otherwise via television/email/friends & family:
1)He's a Muslim.
Folks, if you've followed this election since the primaries, Republicans were trying to get him in trouble for things his CHRISTIAN PASTOR was saying to begin with. I can understand potentially being upset by the things the pastor said, but c'mon. You can't have it both ways: either he's a Muslim, or he's a Christian.
2.) He's for Partial Birth Abortion.
False. Check up on it from any decent source,(factcheck.org) and you'll find that he was one of the politicians who put a MUCH BETTER law in place to protect infants born of Partial Birth Abortion. This is why he voted AGAINST an addendum to this law that was already in place: it didn't provide as well for the baby after it was born.
3.)He's going to introduce so much new spending that none of us will be able to afford our current lifestyle.
Again, check the source. The spending he wants to begin will be taken care of by eliminating tax cuts for Fortune 500 companies, by eliminating many programs that are obsolete for our current times, and begin new ones that will promote growth for our country.
4.) His Health Care plan is going to lead us to be like Canada and Australia, where their doctors are ill-equipped for difficult surgeries.
Again, untrue. All he wants to do is introduce a Health Care plan that's affordable for those who aren't offered health care from their employers. He's NOT going to be taxing the current health care system, which John McCain plans to do, and so those who have it can keep it. Those who need it can pay the government to get it. Excellent.
And finally.....
5.) He's a Socialist.
Okay. So. Let's say, for example, that as a community, we all live on separate sides of a river. We all need a bridge, because our employment is on one side of the river, and our homes and markets are on the other. Obviously, nobody WANTS to pay for this bridge. "Why should I have to pay for the bridge!? What if I want to swim across!?" we all ask. But ultimately, the bridge would provide convenience and a better way of life for the community. So everyone is asked to pay for this bridge.
As a community, this bridge costs money. If every person had to pay an even $1000 for this bridge, that sure would work. But say that there are people that have 12 kids, struggling to make it, and still desperately need this bridge. Don't you think it would be cruel to ask these people to pay $1000 for this bridge, when that would ruin them, instead of asking the people who make millions to pay the $1500 they wouldn't even notice being gone? As a Christian, I just think this is a no brainer, which is why I don't understand why so many Christians vote Republican all the time. Granted, in general, Republicans are against abortion and gay marriage.
But besides those issues, Why? There are people who live in shanties, who have NO money to their name, who are struggling to feed, clothe, and support their families in the crisis we're in, and we're the WEALTHIEST nation in the world! How can this be? Because we're selfish. We pout because we HAVE to give our money
to people less fortunate. He HAVE to let the government give our hard-earned money to people who don't have enough to eat, don't have enough clothes on their backs.
Granted, I understand that there ARE people who take advantage of this kindness. Don't you think they'll have to answer for it, whether it's today or it's in eternity? It's up to us to do the RIGHT thing.
I don't like Abortion. I hate it, in fact, like anyone with a heart does. But I don't think it's the SINGLE issue to vote on, especially since McCain wants to hand it over to the states instead of abolish it altogether.
I just think that we all need to consider which party we stand behind and why. John McCain hasn't attended a church or been affiliated with a church in over two decades. He also was Pro-Choice only four years ago when he ran, but realized that it wasn't going to win him the Republican vote, and changed his mind. I'm not for a flip-flopper who calls himself a "Maverick".

Whew.
Things aren't much better around here, unfortunately. Still very sick. Taking steroids for the extreme swelling, antibiotics for any other potential infection I may have.... And most likely, I have an additional strep infection.
So so SO tired of being sick at this point. Please pray for us. My besty is coming up to take care of us on Saturday, and I know both Colin and I are looking forward to that very very much. She's such a blessing.
Thanks for your continued prayers. We're heading to the hospital tonight. |

Sigh.
Went to the doctor again today, since my fever didn't stop even after I finished my antibiotics. Still having fevers around 101-102 degrees, so my doc was a bit concerned.
She put me on a HUMONGOUS dose of Amoxicillin, which was the highest they offered at the Walmart pharmacy. Kind of cracked me up. She said if I'm still having fevers by Friday, I'll be going in for extensive blood work, which scares me, but ya know. Anything that helps.
If you could continue to keep Colin in your prayers, I'd appreciate it. I went down for a nap, and I woke up to find everything in the apartment spotless. He's working so hard, and I feel so useless, and unable to perform my wifely duties. But he never makes me feel bad, and never plays the martyr. He just does it because it needs to be done, and never complains. Love him.
Also, prayers for rest would be greatly appreciated as well. I have such a hard time sleeping through the night, because fevers wake me up and make me all loopy. And when I sleep during the day, I end up with a fever as well. Sleeping apparently gives me automatic fevers, even after I wait to take my temp for 45 minutes after I wake up. Darn it!
Just thought I'd update. |
