so christmas happened. i got a replacement ipod. yay. along with a book about cats, some crazy clothes, lots of chocolate, a starbucks card, another hole in my left ear, and an english-latin dictionary. i'm a dork. and proud. because latin is the best thing ever; i'm so glad i took it. i feel sorry for anyone who can't take it or chooses not too. anyways, i've spent most of my break helping my sister learn lines for the gondoliers (spring musical at fc). she got a big role. that and listening to music all the time, and petting sophie, and reading with her, and other miscellaneous things...that's pretty much all i do. but my christmas tree dominated all of yours, i don't care what you say. mine's the best.
Hey I saw you last night. Sorry I didn't say bye. My sister kinda rushed me out the door for some reason. Well I asked my parents about Georgia Camp and they said as far as they know I can go. It sounds like a bunch of fun. :O)
to hannah: i get it now...gilbert and sullivan wrote the gondoliers. to aimee: yeah, i was rushed out the door too...but yeah, you should totally go to camp with me. to stefan: 2.
THAT TOTALLY WASN'T EVEN MY POINT. don't try to be all smart on me, mister. 'should' and 'will' have two totally different meanings, not counting tense.
WOW, it's been a long time since i've updated...anyway, lots has happened!
1) school is going pretty awesome so far. i LOVE latin...it's by far my favorite class. yesterday was the first junior classical league (latin club in layman's terms) meeting.
2) after school band camp...that's been happening ever since school started. it's SO MUCH HOTTER than morning band camp. it's like an oven...but you get through it, however slowly. this week it decided to finally rain, and pretty much only on the days that we had practice...so we didn't get as much done as desired.
3) yesterday was the first football game! it was SO MUCH FUN! school lets out at 2:46, then band kids have to go eat and be back at the school at 4:30. my friend neil invited everybody in band to his house for lasagna, so i went there. it was quite fun...then we got back to the school and had to put on uniforms and load the buses (our field is at a park a minute or two from our school). the bus was pretty fun, all the cool kids are on my bus. then we got to the field and had to do a complete runthrough and practice everything we were going to do. let me tell you...it was SO HOT in those uniforms and hats. i don't think i've ever sweated so much in my life. the hats make it literally drip down your face...but it's not so bad because the same thing's happening to everybody. then the game started after we played the national anthem. just being in the stands is really fun. then came show time...it was quite crazy...flutes were at the back of the field and couldn't hear the drum major start us off...but we were okay. there were many problems in the show, but the crowd didn't notice because they have no idea what's supposed to happen. we still have a lot of work to do though...then came more stand time, then we had to run out of there onto the buses because a storm was coming...but all in all, it was reall AWESOME! i can't wait till the next one.
Glad you had a good time. I couldn't imagine having to be in those hot band uniforms sweatin' like pigs! I sweat profusely anyway and doing something like that would be torture. My wife played trumpet all through high school and has told me all about the hot uniforms...and she was in Florida where it's even hotter!
1) Honors English- I really like this class. I have lots of awesome people, and my teacher is CRAZY. She loves Harry Potter, David Beckham, and is very A.D.D...makes for a very interesting class. She definitely knows her stuff though.
2) Biology- Yes, it's a regular course...I don't particularly enjoy science, although I've always had really high grades in it. My class isn't the best, but we're getting there...I let slip snippets of personality and hilarity to stimulate people. It works most of the time. The teacher looks like a pushover...BUT HE'S NOT! Which is always a pleasant surprise. He's actually really sarcastic and funny; he watches The Office.
3) Latin 1- My FAVORITE CLASS! I like the people, and I sit by Andrew and across from Briauna, both of whom I haven't had classes with for a year. My teacher is AMAZING- she's old, but KNOWS HER STUFF. She's also really nice and can joke. She just makes me feel good. I love learning the subject. I love SMART stuff. And people too.
4) Honors World History- A pretty good class. I sit by cool kids. And lunch breaks into the middle of this class. I'd heard dumb kids complaining about the teacher, obviously because they hate authority and work, but I really like him. He's the first teacher I've ever had that's said, "I DON'T KNOW EVERYTHING ABOUT HISTORY. I'll never be able to answer all your questions." He seems to be pretty brilliant, which you wouldn't really expect from a guy who coaches football.
5) Honors Formal Geometry- YAY for math. My class is about half sophomores, half freshman, and three eigth-graders (who come from the middle school for this class). It's a lot of fun. I have a great teacher and I have people I can talk to. Everyone who's had the teacher in the past LOVES her and raves about her, and I can tell she can really teach, plus she has a great personality.
6) Art 1- The only class I don't really enjoy...the teacher is old and clueless, and the class is about as interesting as a paper bag. I'm hoping people will start having personalities soon. I'm in the process of trying to break the ice. At least I sit by someone I can talk to.
7) Wind Ensemble- This is band...the top band, might I say. I love it...we're playing STINKIN AWESOME music. It's hard, but it sounds so awesome, and I'm getting there, playing wise. Even our warm-up sounds amazing though. The choral is....wow....but anyway. What amazes me most is the level of respect and pride in the class. In middle school band, people were ALWAYS talking. Not here. When The Duren (band director) says something, he doesn't ever have to say it twice. Well...except for to the trombones; those guys are always clueless.
Hey Kristen...I'm finally catching up on everybody's posts that I've missed for the last 3-4 weeks due to moving to Houston. Sounds like fun at band camp, but very hot...I couldn't imagine doing that. Btw, who's your Latin teacher? I had Latin in high school too and I'm just curious if it's the same lady.
YAY!!!!!!!!!!! it was awesome and everything, but a LOT of work! today we had a March Off, which is where everybody gets into a block at 4-step intervals and the head drum major calls out commands, getting steadily faster and harder, and the last one marching wins. i was the last flute in and there were 7 people left when i got out. it was crazy though, we'd never done some of those commands. i got out when oblique marching, then kate called a left flank, and i only turned 45 degrees, so i was marching straight. but it was still really awesome- my section leader told me i had immunity for the day, meaning i could fidget all i wanted to while at attention and not get push ups. it was pretty sweet. and mr. duren is giving us tomorrow off because we've done so much work, and we're playing our show (not marching it) tonight for the freshman orientation, and we're going to blast their faces off because it'll be so loud in the performing arts center. oh well....i get the feeling i'm just blabbing now....i'll stop.
