so many wonderful things going on - i'm about to burst!
*after much hard work, colby's graduating w/his master's degree this weekend. we're leaving in the morning to go to the dallas area for his graduation, and then plan to visit the aquarium on saturday. this is silas' first trip!
Now pray tell me what my sweet son in law did to a picture? I guess I'm having a senior moment, but I don't really know what you are talking about. Inform me, please, so I can know whether or not I still think he is my favorite son in law. You all have fun and you can drop by to see me, if you would like. I'll be home.
Disregard the last post. I checked out the picture to which you were referring, and I was not aware that he was the one who did that, but I might have to reconsider his status now. Anybody who would do that to a sweet little innocent baby's picture is pretty despictable, alright. P. S. I still think he is pretty special, though.
both times we've planned a trip to visit some of my family members out of town, silas has come down with a cold (or allergies, we're not sure which it is). maybe he knows how crazy everyone is and he's scared to meet them (he already knows holly, so i guess she's OK in his book)...
yesterday we were going to go to church with holly and tj and amber and amanda were going to meet us there. just as we started to leave silas sneezed twice and a ton of snot came out of his little nose. since then he hasn't done THAT, but he's had a stuffy nose, a cough, he threw up last night and was extremely fussy all day yesterday. needless to say, we didn't end up going. hopefully some day soon he can meet his (second, or once removed?) cousins!
today he seems to feel much better but he sounds pretty bad with his congestion and all. it's so pitiful. this sickness is much worse than the last time, but at least he doesn't have a fever.
andy and i had a rough day yesterday; we both broke down in tears a time or two b/c silas was acting so pitiful. this is definitely the hardest thing about being a parent so far (while he's this age anyway). so glad my mom always reminds me to "give it to God" - this is good practice.
it gets scary when something happens and you just have no idea what to do. the first time Jonah threw up i was scared, to say the least, and had no idea how to make him feel better. but, all the rough times just make the non-rough times so much better and rewarding. hang in there slugger.
I'm sorry it has been so rough. It's definitely hard to see little ones sick like that. I hope he gets better...poor thing has been through so much already!
Poor little angel, it sounds like he needs get well kisses from me! Nothing is worse than your child being sick and not being able to do anything to help them.
i understand how you feel... i was in my room the other day and i heard swigart making weird noises and i went to find him and he was heaving and then threw up... ok, so maybe that's not QUITE as unsettling as little Baby, but...it's all i got. :) can't wait even a LITTLE to kiss him, snot..throw up..poopy diapers and all! oh, and to see you. :)
oh, i know, that's exactly how I feel, like why can't I keep my child healthy, and why don't I have that good breastmilk that is suppose to keep them from getting sick!
It really is the hardest thing when they get sick. My kiddos usually wake up in the middle of the night throwing up and taht is when we know they are running a high fever. It's sooo scary. Stay strong!! I love ya!!
llhahaha! I'm laughing at myself. I just saw the tiker in the corner and thought you were pregnant again! I was like...man, those babies are gonna be real close in age! lol :)
silas turned two months old a week ago, so we took him for his two month checkup yesterday. he's still just perfect, and luckily hasn't been vomiting for the past almost two weeks. last night he slept 9 hours straight, which is a record for him; usually he sleeps 5-7 hours. he weighs 13 lbs 5.5 oz now, so he's becoming my own personal trainer, which is fine with me!
andy's work schedule is back to normal for now at least, and it's so nice having him home for the day at 1 PM! i think i'm a little bit spoiled...
andy's mom came into town tuesday and wednesday and watched the baby while we went on a double date with kim and colby. we went to the paramount to see young mr. lincoln. andy and i try to go to at least one movie at the paramount each summer b/c that's when they have their classic film series. if you're in the austin area and have never gone, you should! a lot of times they play double features for the price of one, so it's a pretty good deal. we got an even better deal this time b/c whole foods sponsors the series, so andy got free tickets! the theatre is awesome too, old and fun. anyway, that's probably the most exciting thing i've done in a long time, and that's why i keep rambling...i'll stop now. :-)
That is funny! I DID NOT read this before I posted! ;) you can tell we don't get out much! ;) i am so proud of Silas sleeping so well! hey, guess what!? i made colby some pb balls today since he has been begging me to make them ever since he sunk his teeth in the one that cheryl made! ;) they probably aren't quite as good as her's but they will do!
ok seriously i think its time yall get down here!! oh and i was soooo distracted by the hairy legs i didnt even notice the anklet. ha p.s. do you still shave your toes??
hey, heather...i've been meaning to ask you for a while now. what cloth diapers did you end up using for silas? i took a break from cloth diapering a few weeks ago, right before jonathan was born, because i knew i wouldn't be up to doing laundry for a bit, but i'm planning on starting up again next week and i'm debating about whether or not to get some new ones for jonathan. i have a random assortment of newborn/small diapers that i could use for him, but we're really spoiled with ben's fuzzy bunz diapers, and i'm afraid the thought of using mostly prefolds and covers just sounds like a hassle to me. anyways, i was just wondering if you had found some cloth diapers that you were enjoying using on him and could recommend to me, especially since he's such a big little guy too, like my "little" guy. :)
what did i used to talk about before silas came along?? he has totally consumed my life, in a completely wonderful way. :-)
he's starting to smile a lot more now when we talk to him - it's adorable! his two month checkup is next tuesday already. i can't believe it! we had to take him to the doctor yesterday b/c he's been vomiting and has nasal congestion (which she thinks is related to him overeating/getting too much....we'll see). but he weighed in at 13 lbs 5 oz and is in the 97th percentile, so maybe he does "overeat."
ok, so other than silas...hmmm...well, cantaloupe is in season and it's mighty tasty. i could seriously eat a whole cantaloupe every day. in fact, one summer we did that and have never regretted it! also, it finally rained here the other night; silas has only seen rain twice now in his lifetime. andy worked about 70 hours last week, so we hardly saw him at all. this week he gets thursday through saturday off, so i am REALLY looking forward to that!
oh, ask becca how many cats she's living with now. YIKES.
That's exactly how I feel--I don't know what to say to people who don't want to hear about my kids! Have a nice, long weekend with Andy--another thing I understand...
I don't think it's possible for newborns to overeat, but maybe that's just me! I wonder if he has allergies or something. All that drainage can sometimes make them gag. (Just trying to think what else it might be besides overeating.)
The boys and I are going to be driving to Temple and back either tomorrow or Friday. Do you think we could stop by for a visit? Just long enough so I can finally meet Silas!
i agree with holly's diagnosis... our family overeat?!? not possible! im craving me some good cantaloupe here lately... we should have a cantaloupe party and make holly eat some. yummmmm
I can't believe it's already been 2 months. Time goes so fast! I feel the same as you, too. Since having kids I feel like that's all I talk about. They are so wonderful! Hope you and Silas can enjoy some much needed Daddy time this weekend!
vomiting? Poor baby. Gram had nasal congestion up to 6 months. It actually just sounded like nasal congestion. The Dr. said it might just be large adnoids.
how wonderful it was to actually hold Silas tonight for a significant amount of time (well, after A-line finally left me alone!) AND have him fall asleep on me...pure joy for sure! OH, not to mention the smiles he kept giving me!!!!!
Bren always spit up tons more when she was congested...it just goes with the territory. We just had to feed her smaller amounts and feed her more often. Hope he's feeling better soon!
silas is trying to sleep right now, but at the same time he's giving everything he's got to try and poop. every now and then he pulls his knees up to his chest and gives a little grunt. andy was talking the other day about how funny it is that pooping is a baby's biggest challenge/hardship. if only our lives were that simple.
when i took him to the doctor last week, silas weighed 12 lb 3 oz; he's definitely having no problem putting on weight even though he's been throwing up some with his cold. i'm still losing weight (probably b/c silas is eating it away), and yesterday was able to put on my pre-pregnancy jeans, which i was VERY excited about. today we have a play date with our fun neighbor - luckily he's feeling well enough to go!
well, i'm going to eat breakfast and do some laundry and dishes now - got to take advantage of these little windows of opportunity while he sleeps to get stuff done. :-)
Good to hear from you. Thanks for your encouraging words. I still have the jump-a-roo. Silas will love it! Most babies can begin to use it around 6 months old, some earlier. I'm sorry that we haven't come to see you all since he was born. Life is just totally crazy. We recently got a second vehicle though, so that will make keeping up with people so much easier - coming to see Silas has been on my list of "things to do once we get a car", so I need to just do it! And soon!
Heather and Andy, thank you so much for continuing to put little Silas' pictures on Andy's blog. I just love seeing the changes in him so quickly. He sure is getting chubby. Give him a hug for me. Love you, grandma
