Tonight's Debate 10-07-08 11:52pm EST
So tell me what do YOU think! This is an open forum.

HAVE FUN!
dixiedawnI didn't get to see it. :\ where can i find highlights, I wondner? hmmm.
lori_in_paI saw about five minutes. The candidates were dancing lightly on their toes, trying very hard not to actually say anything. I decided my rest was more important than waiting for them to produce something of substance.
technologicalsophomoreThere was a debate? Not that I could have watched it anyway...
video_nanaI was busy editing video so only caught a little of the debate right at the end.
hoosierbybirthI thought McCain did much better than everyone on T.V. is saying he did.
tryphenaI listened on the radio for 20 minutes, and had to turn the radio off three times...twice because I can't stand to hear Mr. Obama no matter what he's talking about, and once for McCain because he's drinking the Kool-Aid when it comes to global warming, and I can't stand to hear an otherwise intelligent person wax eloquent about such inanity.
cyber_space_cadet^ I turned it on (and then off) two or three times. I think she summed it up pretty well on her blog, but so did she (above). I found the little I saw kind-of frustrating.
just2seeusmileThanks for talking you made me feel soooo much better *hugs*
eehiabehiaI have Cobra.
crystal_91lol..not for me its been terrible. Seems like its been a couple years but its only been like 1. But his brothers keep me occupied
deputyheadmistressMostly very boring. Nobody 'won.' Obama and McCain each gave me cold chills and a sick tummy- Obama when he said it would be mandated that parents buy health insurance, and McCain when he said he reward all those who mismanaged their finances and skipped mortgage payments by buying those bad mortgages up, altering the terms, and given them a better deal. I would have been better off to be a deadbeat, is what I'm hearing from both of them.

My 12 year old had the best commentary, I thought:
I think the best commentary of the night came from the FYG.
She was extremely annoyed that neither candidate answered the questions- they just went off on their own (tired) talking points. I told her that's what politicians DO.

"I do not like that," said the Pleoless Child, "Because I am not allowed to do that. My parents always remember the original question and make me answer it. No excuses."

Her other astute commentary included the observation that Obama has big ears, Brokaw has funny eyes, and McCain sure does have a lot of heroes, and this was all very boring.
crystal_91I know 3 more months but his brother adam moved in with Ryan Lucas and I and he is keeping me entertained. Everytime I start crying or something Adam will do something or say something totally random and he tries to get my mind off of things..lol
cyber_space_cadetHmmm...I just told Wendi that I talked on the phone two whole times this week, but I just remembered that we spoke at the beginning of this week, too, right? Wow. That's a LOT for me. :) I guess it's a good thing my friends know how to dial, because I don't. :P
phyllisophical_mom Well, we aren't sure HOW it will taste...the batter was bitter (grin), but the baked cake smelled wonderful. We frosted it, and then put it in the cake holder, awaiting Bob to get off work, sleep and then have his dinner/party later on today! I'll let you know!
bandgirl129Sorry to hear that you are sick... So I hope that the links worked... I am going to put more up there soon. I love you and hope you are getting better.
sylvanhistorianAwww - thank you! That brought a smile to my face. :)

Too many marshmellows 10-04-08 11:27pm EST
Tonight the whole family went to a girl scout function. We walked half way through a four acre corn maze. I couldn't walk anymore as my back started acting up and my legs were going numb.

We went out and the kids started making s'mores. Our service unit manager was trying to help the girls put on marshmellows and then make the s'mores by herself. I offered to help and then she rangled Jackson into helping as well. Eventually Jackson left to go on the hayride with everyone else.

Me I was covered in marshmellow and chocolate. For most people this would be a good combination, I found it gross. As most of you know I really don't like chocolate. I can give or take a marshmellow.

Well to get to the point... there was a bag of sort of melted marshmellows. Most of these girls are preteen and poorly raised. A couple of girls got angry with each other. One was mad enough to take the bag of marshmellows, while I wasn't looking, and smear it all over the other girl's hair and clothes. It will easily wash out of the clothes. Her hair might be a different story.

The poor thing went home in tears. The mom was angry at us for allowing it. I told her we were helping the other girls and asked her where she was. She informed me that she had other things to do and dropped off her daughter. I then told her that if she wasn't going to take responsibility for her daughter then why should I. The woman started to blow up and the SU manager told her to just go home and take care of her crying child. The woman said she was going to charge us with neglect.

Where on earth do these people come from? Who do they think they are to dump off their responsibility onto others and then critisize how things are handled? This attitude has amazed me ever since we moved to PA. I guess since I didn't go many places in Indiana I didn't notice it. This woman apparently didn't listen to Govenor Palin during the debate.
spicegirl255What a deal!!! People can be so rude sometimes. The girls should have known better also...it is not up to you to mold them.
disastermasterThat and other reasons are why we pulled A from Girl Scouts and did not allow the boys to participate in Boy Scouts.
tryphenaThe marshmallow will dissolve away quickly from her hair.

This is one of my issues with being a Girl Scout leader: The girls who need it the most have parents that make it almost impossible to do the girls any good. Very frustrating!
hoosierbybirthWe've had Honey Crisps, they are good, just more expensive than the others.
eehiabehiaI'm certainly not asking for it!
bandgirl129Hey! How are you? I haven't talked to you in a while. How is everyone? I miss you and hope to see you soon. Oh you can try the link on my site and see if it works and you can see some band photos of this year. If it doesn't work then tell me and I will try something else... I love you!
jbluver95sadly, no i don't have a life cause i'm a band nerd. But atleast its something i like to do and not something i hate.

"I guess you won't get to vote." 10-03-08 11:38am EST
Today I went to register to vote. What I know of McCain, doesn't please me. Sarah Palin on the other hand, that is a person I could vote for. From what I can tell she is a staunch concervative.

So today I went to Harrisburg to the Republican office to register to vote. You have until Monday to do this. I filled out the form and then they told me I had to mail it to Carlisle. I told them it wouldn't get there in time. Then the man was goofy enough to tell me, "Sorry ma'am, I guess you won't get to vote." Hello I am voting Republican, you would think they could have been more accomodating.

Another man came up and told me that he goes to the Carlisle office everyday. He offered to take it for me. I gladly agreed to allow him to do this as I didn't have time to go to Carlisle today.

If I can vote, I will. I doubt that it will count for much. Since The Govenor has one of the electoral votes and is as liberal as Obama and Hillary. I will give him my 2 cents and hopefully will be listened to.
captain_nateOh, yeah, I guess the whole Octoberfest thing is going on isn't it? I haven't seen anything about that around here fortunatly. Maybe you'll get a chance to go closer to November!
sylvanhistorianit's been really exhausting, actually. Several things have come up at once and as excited as I am to be in the sixth week fo the semester, I'm also not ready to only have ten weeks left to work on a fairly large research project. Petty things, really... If I could only always remember that. How has yours been?
sylvanhistorianHave you lookd into using your library's inter-library loan service? Then you could still get the books and not have to pay for them. Requires a tiny bit more paperwork, but is well worth it. I love ILL. :-D I have missed my family quite a bit when I've been at home - hours spent in a house without loved ones can get lonely. There hasn't been much time to really dwell on that though, between homework and pet-care.
spicegirl255So, is this something you take daily or just when you know you have been exposed to something like a cold or flu and are susceptable?
crystal_91How far away is Carlisle from where you live?
da_bubblesI like Tea but I'm always a smothie person. I'm voteing!! I LOVE sarah. and i tease my mom this Hoosier is for the Hot chick :) But as far as around my area i'm a little clueless on who to vote for
just2seeusmilehey :) Yes we have a great group of friends here and I love them each so dearly :) The more we're together the more I hate being way from them when we leave.. haha

Umm our phones are back up. Your dad called me yesterday and told me he was gonna call steven at 9ish and they sang hb to him... hmm idk what happened when you called...

He says thanks and he loves you so much!! :) Take care sis!
preachermonYou may comment... I don't mind! You get out there and vote girl, Indiana may need that vote this year!
spicegirl255I have fond memories of our grammer school having a drive to sell Taffy Apples in October. We got one each a week for the month. Guess I am conditioned! LOL. The carmel alone is awesome too, but I love the whole package!
crystal_91Oh...so how have you been?
crystal_91not for a few months.(new years) But my Aunt and Uncle live 5 miles south of Carlisle
crystal_91Sounds nice. I'd love to meet you and your family
duodamselI would've thought as long as it was post-marked by the cut off date that would be okay.
McCain won't hurt this country for his own will or take $$$ from home-grown terrorists. Palin is helping to energize McCain and will help steer him on certain conservative issues. :)

Money Stresses? 10-02-08 09:03am EST
There are those that are up in arms about what is happening. There are those that don't know what is going on. The worst is that there are those who don't care what is going on. I fear the second set and am frustrated with the third.

If you watch the news you are going to get a slanted view of things even on Fox News. Stephen and I avoid it except for the debates. According to them the world is coming to an end. I am sorry, but did I miss something. Christ hasn't returned yet. Things are going to continue on until he does. LIVE people.

If you want a good place to find information quickly check out www.freerepublic.com. We heard about 911 there first. Even before it was on the news. The reporting has been accurate and usually very conservative except for a few oddballs. (Hey they exist everywhere.) If you create a user name you can make comments ask questions and post up about news yourself.

Finding out what is going on won't solve everything though. Nor will hiding your head in the sand like the others want to do. My grandparents and great grandparents lived through THE GREAT DEPRESSION. When I was a little girl I had to do a family tree and have them talk about their lives. Some of them I have recorded their voices, but others I have what they said written down. I decided to pull that information out and look at what they said about their lives in that time.

First off let me say that they were all farmers. The depression didn't hit them as hard as it did those who lived in the city. They didn't depend on others to provide for them. They did it all themselves. Physically working themselves to the bone. I am proud to come from such wonderful people.

When you are talking about providing for yourself, there are some things that are going to be necessary.

1. Pay your bills on time. (Be a good steward)

2. Pay off your debt as quickly as possible. (Owe no man anything)

3. Prepare to be able to live off the land. (I don't mean a few tomato plants either)

4. Learn how to be self sufficient. (You don't want to depend on buying everything)

5. Reuse and Recycle (Make sure before something is trashed that you can't make another use for it)

6. Physical labor not mental is what will save your family. (Garden, canning, sewing all the "lost" arts)

7. Take stock of what you really NEED in your life and how much it really costs for those things. (What you need and what you think you need are two different things.)

8. Have a positive outlook (Depression and negativity are not only not helpful, but promote things that are much worse.)

9. This too shall pass. (I know I hate that saying, but it was where it came from. The amazing thing is that they are right, it did pass.)

10. Help others as you can. (There is always someone who has it worse off than you do.)

These are the top ten things I have from them. There are others, but these are the quips I wrote down as a 9 year old little girl. At that time I had four great grandparents and all of my grandparents. They were willing to share about that time in their lives willingly.

On a side note, my Great grandpa recommended making moonshine. I asked what it was and was given a chemistry lesson of a lifetime. :)

So in closing...

Live the Christian life that you have been given. God will provide. Fear is something that comes from Satan not God. God is not a God of fear. Fear, panic, anger and bitterness get you no where. Live prayerfully, practically and logically, not emotionally, fearfully and bitterly. Remove materialism from your life. Replace it with a love of things that are Godly. If these things plague you, pray about it immediately. Stop what you are doing and give that problem to God in prayer. He will help you for He has promised.
just2seeusmilehowdy-- umm the guy in the ER suggested it but when I asked your mom's obgyn about it she said its not necessary at this point that she'd rather use a scope and go looking around ot see if she needs to remove anything in there... I'm getting a second opinion :)

Great post btw-- i love it!
spicegirl255Excellent advice! My parents lived thru the depression also. I will pass on the Moonshine though, thanks anyway! LOL!
spicegirl255BTW...how is your cold today?
spicegirl255Tell me the secret!!! Where do I get some? How do I take it? I am hacking and blowing up a storm here...totally miserable even today!
duodamselI suppose that's why I'm not that worried. Mom and Dad had lots of Depression stories being kids then.
#11. Accept help when offered....think about those offering the help and how it encourages them to keep helping others.

I am sick 10-01-08 11:12am EST
I have a sore throat, runny nose, runny eyes, and headache. I hope I didn't give it to my new friends last night. They have to be healty for competition.

I layed around in bed for a couple of extra hours. I didn't sleep, but I did rest.

Time to go find some drugs. I still have the rest of the day to function through sort of. :)

Stay healthy! Get sleep! Drink Soup! At least that is what I am going to do.
eehiabehiaFeel better!
just2seeusmileAww I'm so sorry Sam! :( Do get better soon.... let me know when you're feeling topsy and I'd like to call :)
Love you!!
just2seeusmileAww thanks Sam! :D It turned out really good, I think; and I'm picky on breads coming out right... I remember living back at home, we made fresh bread EVERY day.... I hate it looking back because store bough bread is icky to me now ;) haha!!
I hope you have a wonderful day-- I'm working on financial issues today and I've rearranged my living room and lost our cord to charge our phones (we're having to do it in the jeep) and since Steve has the jeep I can't charge it and its dying... so hopefully if tomorrow is a better day for you and I can get it charged tonight, just tell me what time you're thinking and I'll see what I can do ;) *hugs*
hoosierbybirthSorry to hear you aren't feeling well, get better quickly. Their meeting was only Sunday through Wednesday.
eehiabehiaI have thought about a doula.
eehiabehiaI do plan on looking into it for sure. It really sounds worth it from the brief research I've done.
spicegirl255I have the same thing...plus a temp. Was up at 3am ironing because I could not sleep...
da_bubblesAwww Get better!! Dayquill has always been my friend when i'm sick.
