Mike and I are headed to Tennessee for a job interview. We are being interviewed for a position at a children’s home where we would be house parents. Our job would be to take care of these "kids". Actually they are teens. We both feel we have a gift of working with kids and teens, like we are commended we are to use our gifts. We don't want to close an open door before walking through it and giving it a chance.
I couldn't imagine not having parents that want you or can have you because of choices they made in their life. Being raised in a Christian family, as many of you were, we do not understand what they are going through. What I do know is, this is an opportunity for us to share the gospel and give them tools to succeed at life. It is not an easy job by any means but they deserve a chance.
This weekend we are getting interviewed for the job. It will require a lot of mental, spiritual, and physical strength for this interview and job. Please keep us in your prayers. This weekend will be an eye opener to a world neither of us has experienced.
As a high school teacher - I seriously love working with teenagers. It's tough, it's frustrating, and it's a whole lot of work, but I wouldn't trade my job for anything.
Mandi- I will definitely be praying for you and Mike. At Morro Bay I got to talk to your parents a lot. Your mom told me about not getting to teach right now because of the lovely tiring disease we share...I think this opportunity could be rather God given! I have absolutely fallen in love with so many of my foster students. I am considering changing careers in the future to get more involved with them. How lovely if you can affect some lives and use your faith and education to do so. Bless you!
Well, I have not posted in a long while. I will get you caught up with what is going on in my life.
I was living in Ohio but due to some job changes my husband got a new job closer to family. We really wanted to be close to family so we had the choice of Connecticut and California. California is way more expensive than Connecticut so we are now in Connecticut.
It is really different than anywhere I have lived before. There are some things I like and some I don't. For the most part I don't like it because I really haven't made friends. It is partly becase the church here is only 20 people and 10 is family. Mike and I have really discussed if we could live up here and have a family here and we both said no. We both agree that in about 5 years we hope to be back in the south...most likely Tennessee.
So that is what is going on in my life. Sorry I have been absent so long. Hopefully I will be able to keep this up better.
Connecticut?? Crazy. Hope you start making friends. Try doing some volunteer work, or something. Do you work? When did you get married. Good to hear from you!
Unfortunately there aren't a lot of Restoration Movement churches in the northeast. Have you considered looking at the Independent Christian Churches/Instrumental Churches of Christ? There appears to be several of them from the Christian Church Today Church Locator.
I'll pray God leads you two where you can both serve Him together in a powerful way for His glory! :-)
glad you're doin well!! i haven't seen you since your wedding - when are you comin to visit cali? let me know, maybe we can meet up at panera like we use to! =) haha
Wow...I hope you like it up there. At least you have seasons, not just Summer, Just after summer, not quite summer, and almost summer, like we have out here.
Hey dude, which town in CT are you in? I used to live in Providence, RI. The NE is definately an area that has to grow on you. Perhaps that's why I moved back to California :D As you've noticed, the churches are very sparse. If you haven't, you should take the train into NYC some sunday and meet the christians there. Nice folks. This week I've been worshipping at the church in Fair Lawn, NJ. I was surprised that everyone was so very friendly. I'm heading back to Ca for the weekend. I can't wait!
Hey, Tennessee is a good place to live. :) Wow. Can't believe you're in CT now! It is always much harder to live and worship in the northeast. Congregations are mostly MUCH smaller, and much harder to find (sometimes even harder to find than in CA- I know- I've looked in both places too!) I hope you're able to make some friends soon. I know for us (my immediate family) we would always befriend our neighbors- even if they weren't Christians. There were many times Mom ended up studying with them.
Hey girlie! What a great couple you two make! Great to hear from you! Best to you both in Conn. Sounds like an adventure! Come see us in Reno when you come back to the west. (:
Hi. Glad to see you're ok. I'm confused why you suggested Mt. Juliet church. There is no such church in Nashville. I hope you don't mean that super liberal one in Mt Juliet, TN that supports FH, has "church sports". etc. haha
Hey guys I just started selling this amazing designer inspired jewelry at a totally affordable price! Please go to my website and check out the many different styles for all ages! They are great gifts for the holidays!!!
I'm here! Have been for a month- still not settled in though. I think we've decided where to go to church. But its not Brea. :( But then again, Brea wasn't Charlestown Road... How are things going for you?
mmmm... Nope. I've turned in my app for subbing, but am still waiting on my transcripts to be sent. Otherwise, no job. Pretty bored right now, actually...
First how is the fireman guy you husband was studying with? Second, I'm in Cali & need to call up Adam, Travis, & your folks b/c I lost my old phone that had their numbers.
Hey girl! How is married life treating you? do you still use your aim name? I have looked for you on there lots of times...maybe we are just missing each other. Let me know if you have a new name so we can catch up! I want to hear all about it!
Mandi!! How's it going? Looks like you don't get on here very often, but if you do, make sure to say hi to me and let me know how you are. Hope all is well with you. We're doing great.
Well not much to report right now other than I am staying busy with life! I just realized a couple of days ago that my birthday is only 2 months away! Crazy....boy time can fly! Ok that is my update for now. More to come if anything exciting happens in my life.
Ok, I am still looking for a job and I am having no luck!! I am so frustrated that I can't get a job. Please pray that I find something soon because we need the second income. Thanks!
On to the second thing. Mike has a lot of friends in the police force because the station is around the corner from his restaurant and they come in and eat all the time. He has really become friends with this one in particular because he, Darrin, is the only one that has some type of faith. He is Baptist along with his family but it is one of those situations where they are going there because that is how they were raised. Yesterday he called Mike to talk to him because he was having a bad day. He got a call from his wife that she broke his leg and that his daughter's tumor in her head is back. So I told Mike to call him back and tell him we are bringing dinner to them on Wednesday. When he called him Darrin was so surprised that we would do that. Mike has been talking about how he wants to start Bible studies with him. I would say that the door has been opened and we really want to take advantage of it. Could you please pray that their hearts are open to hear what we have to say and that we say the right thing? It would mean so much to us.
I got the job!!! I am manager of a scrubs store! I am so excited! I start on Tuesday and I have really cute scrubs to wear now too. I am excited to have comfortable clothes to wear to work.
