It has been snowing here for about 3 hours but none has stuck. It is so wet. I am enjoying watching it fall. It is like being in a snowglobe! Watching snow fall is about as good as walking through crunching leaves. 99.9 is playing christmas music and I have been listening all day. Sure puts me in a festive mood.
Last year I did a post on my other blog about pumpkin pie ice cream. It's back and I still love it! Yum!! My 3 boys love it,too, so it doesn't stay around for very long. If you're like my hubby and don't care for pumpkin pie then you will probably not care for this ice cream, oh well, more for me.
I forgot about the Crock Pot site. The stuffing looks good. Have you seen the Pioneer Woman Recipe site? It is good and looks like the crock pot site. She shows you how to do the recipe... Pioneer Woman
Cheryl try again: jbeckley@telkomsa.net - no spaces. About humanism - you might research and get a good handle on it, several sites were Christians have written clarification on this religion, and it really is... One such site is http://www.gospelway.com/php/Search.php
I hope I am wrong but things will be changing drastically over the next few years and that scares me. We are using Ohio Virtual academy which is public school at home. (Since it's public school it's free.) I've had talks with Luke about why something that is being taught is wrong. It kinda goes like this "OK that's what they say or think but it is wrong and this is why..." So is this stuff what they teach in regular public schools? There really is a slant toward the liberal side, as parents we really need to be on our toes.
Last week Luke learned who started humanism. The lesson made it sound like humans have potential to do great things. It seemed to be saying to me that we can do great things without God. I told Luke that it was wrong and we need to rely on god, not ourselves.
My girls wwent to public schools, and we had no trouble with them being taught anything that would go against the bible. I know there are some public school that are better than others.
That is what has worried me about the Virtual schools. It is the same Godless education centered around the religion of relativism that is taught to the masses. At least being at home, you won't miss any of the messages being sent and you can combat them immediately. I think you would really enjoy "Classical Conversations."
Classical conversations is a group that meets once a week for about 4 hours. The children are divided by groups of 8 or less and the parents remain with them. The "teacher" covers a very classical education, including history, math and Latin! Every year the children memorize a time line of the history of the world. This time line includes "Christian" events such as creation and the events of the Israelites etc... By the end of this year, even the first graders will be able to translate First John in Latin! A lot of memorization is involved, but every parent I know says that their kids love it! There is no testing, so the kids are not pressured. You attend with them and for the rest of the week you supplement the information as you wish, or just verbally review. Most of the kids really enjoy the day out and after the four hours most people enjoy a packed lunch and the kids play a while.
Classical Conversations is a National program. I know that there are groups in Centerville and Beavercreek and it is continuing to grow.
If you want more information, I can give you a number of one of the organizers.
It seems like a good system and I think it would help me stay on track and motivate me. We are considering it for next year.
