It's been about 7 weeks since I last updated! Wow! Lot's of big changes have occured in that time!
Violet is now 18 weeks! She weighed in at a whopping 3.6 lbs Tuesday at the vet's office....she's gained a lil over a lb since I got her! She has broken me in well with a bunch of the possible puppy problems a pet can have. From pink eye to tape worms to you name it we probably already dealt with it! I'm so glad I joined a puppy wellness plan and the vet visits have all been free, I just have to pay for the meds and a monthly fee (both do add up though!). For pics of violet, you'll have to visit facebook since I'm not very good at posting pics on here!
I'm enjoying the fall weather tremendously! THe leaves are starting to change colors =) I love it when that happens up here in Bham! I'm still enjoying my new house! I've found lots of good christian neighbors that live in my neighborhood too! It's like the Richeson/Wessel neighborhood! So far, I know of 3 other homes here aside from my own that they attend services, just at various locations. Life has become more fun and interesting with my new friends. Violet loves all the extra attention too! She's gone on several walks and she sure does sleep well afterwards!
I went golfing for the first time ever Tuesday with Ben. I got to drive the golf cart and swing at a few balls (I'm not very good at it though...the ball didn't even leave the ground). Golfing was a lot of fun, I just have to get the hang of holding the golf club, swinging and actually hitting the ball without tearing up the grass! It's harder than it looks! Ben is also one of my neighbors...he lives on my street even, just at the 4 way stop. One of my christian neighbors introduced us at church when I went with her and her family to Oak Mtn. After all my security issues, she told him he needed to be my "security guard." We've been enjoying each others company =)
In other news, this weekend is my LAST 3 12 hour shifts! =) Yay! I've worked every weekend now for a whole year...it definitely gets old! Most people think it would be an awesome schedule, but try it out and you'll change your mind! So, after I finish working today, tomorrow, and Saturday nights 12 hour shifts each (7a to 7p), I then will start my new schedule Monday night at 11p to 7a. I will work through Thursday night, then I'll be off for a whole week! =) That's the way my new schedule works (Friday to Thursday, then off a week). Sadly though, I'll be working Thanksgiving again and Christmas. I already have plans for Thanksgiving though, so that's good =)
My first night off will be Halloween! I've worked pretty much all the holidays this year except labor day and memorial day, so I'm excited about this! I'm not really sure what my plans will be yet for that night, but the next day I get to go home to FL for almost a whole week! I haven't been home since my bro got married in August! That's when I got Violet too!
Tuesday while shopping with a friend and her lil boy, I was at the check out counter. My friend was getting Johnson out of the buggy, when the cashier asked me if he was mine? I responded, no, I'm not married. SHe said "oh well I didn't mean it like that he could be your grandkid..." Me "yeah, he's not my grandkid either!" After that I had to get out of there fast so I could bust out laughing! I always got the you look like your 12, or 18, or most recently 20....never have I gotten the older side much less a grandma! I thought ya'll would have fun with that!
I guess I better run for now. I do need a nap before heading in to work this evening! Sorry it's been so long since I updated!
Ummm, Ben sounds good! Glad you won't have to work weekends now, but the graveyard shift is still hard. Don't worry about that cashier...sometimes people make you wonder.
There are some weird ones out there...one time a lady went through the whole possible line up with me and Julie. It went from, "Are you two sisters? Aunt? Mother?" We were like which one of us is supposed to be the mother?? lol
I saw you, too. I had to go to work though, so I left pretty quick. Nursing school is going great. I'm passing, and I have a great clinical instructor.
I too heard you were in GVILLE! I'm sorry I missed seeing you. Sounds like you are living the good life in Bham. I love the game of golf, I'm just no good. It's really fun to drive the carts though!
Life in my neck of the woods has been pretty busy!
Sunday evening after services I had the group meeting at my home. There were just about as many kids as there were adults, and I wanted to close my eyes and pretend I didn't see everything going on...kid standing on top of kitchen table, kid running around house with a huge hand-ful of shredded cheddar cheese getting ground in the floors, etc. The noise of it all did scare some middle aged couples away sooner. Overall though, it was a good get together!
2 weeks ago I added a new member to my family....Violet! She's a miniature daucshund. She's currently 11 wks old. She has been keeping me very busy and on my toes! She's so sweet, but is also stubborn! It really is like having a baby, but this one's already toddler staged with no diapers...yikes! She keeps me company! She went to the vet yesterday since she's sick and she is a wopping 2.2 lbs, or 1 kg. Vets and meds are expensive!
My parents got to visit me Tuesday night on their way back home from Montana. It was good to visit with them! =)
I found out today that there were several guys scoping out my home again...last time the car, this time the house! Luckily when I turned on the lights to take Violet out for a few mins my neighbor noticed 2 guys looking in my house, and caught them...police were here and all. I didn't know any of this happened till this afternoon when my neighbor knocked on my door and told me. This is getting ridiculous! I'm tired of people trying to scope out my stuff to break in! I'm thankful though for my neighbors who keep catching them!
I better go for now. Work tonight! Have a good weekend!
What great neighbors you have! There are spots here where noone would call the cops or scare them off. I'm glad your neighbors care. Good luck with the dog.
Im glad the get together went well...that is really scary about those guys checking out your house. Be careful! An alarm system does sound pretty good. Violet is already sick??? poor thing. Clincals started today...I think it's going to be a good semester as far as clinicals go. Well we need to catch up again. Have fun at work!! Love ya!!
You'll have to post a picture of your puppy. Mine's a handful too - good birth control for now :) I hate that about your house, thank God for your neighbors!
I was really surprised, too. I don't really like it- I think if we'd been up at Vanderbilt they wouldn't have let us go home. I'm going to try to push for them to do it tomorrow.
lol...I love that song. Sorry I missed your call yesterday. My phone died, and I lost my charger. Luckily Dad has the same charger that I had, so I can charge it still. TTYL have fun at work this week!
Jonathan and Krystle tied the knot Saturday! =) It was a beautiful wedding! It rained a bit, but it was nice and cool! Check out my pics on facebook if you want to see pics! I have a new sis!
Other news!
I'm gonna be an aunt again! =) Due in April. I'm excited! Heather says this is the last.
I'm still at my parents' home...finally enjoying some R&R. Ya'll have a good week! =)
I can't believe I'm up writing on here this late at night! I know I do work the night shift, but when I'm off, I'm asleep early!
I was in my living room on the couch asleep after having worked last night, then worship services today. The movie I had been watching put me to sleep. So, my living room lights are all on and the dvd is ended and just replaying the menu over and over...a typical thing that happens if I decide to watch a movie at night time! When I think I hear a knock on my front door...I wake up, look at the clock and it's 2345...thinking it must have been in my dreams, I'm like hmmmm....also not really wanting to know who/what might be at my door this late! I walk to the front door and notice a police car speeding off and a girl starting to run away from my house, when I open the door thinking maybe someone's hurt or trying to escape from a guy or something (the visitor was a girl close to my age). She then tells me in panic voice "someone tried to break into your and my car, you might want to check it for missing stuff." She told me her brother had caught one of the guys (a 15 yo male!). A police report was filed...I'm not sure if they caught the other guys or not. I am glad she was the one to have woke me up first though. After speaking with the police, the policemen wanted us to wake up all of our neighbors and have them check their vehicles. The girl and I stood together and talked while the guys proceded to do this. While I was watching, the police would go to my neighbors homes and knock/ring on the doorbell and when they answered the door say "calera police." I would have totally freaked out to a policeman waking me up this late at nite! I would have thought some murderer or something was loose in the neighborhood or something, but lucky for me when I got woke up I thought....hmmm....maybe someone's hurt (of course neither thought is good, but the latter is better!). The girl was my next door neighbor...I had met her dad, but had never met her or her brother. She's in nursing school. I even got a yellow watermelon out of the whole deal tonight...I've never tried one of those before, so I'm excited! =)
This past week has been long! I'm exausted from all the festivities and look forward to sleeping in tonight! My trip to FL was fun! It went by way too fast, as usual! It didn't seem like I was at one place for very long, but I did get a lot of visiting in....even before going to church Wednesday night in gville!
Work went pretty good this weekend. Last night pretty much did me in! I admitted a kid and stayed busy with her most of the night...she had every hour neuro checks! It's amazing what a high ammonia level in the blood will do to ya! She is one of my favorite regular patients though, so when I heard she was coming I decided I would take her! The kinda fun thing about it was when she came in she says "see, it is Jennifer." I was like, yep, and I'm taking care of you tonight. A few minutes later another nurse (not a Jennifer) comes into the room and the patient says "it's a Jennifer night, look another Jennifer." Uhmmmm...at this point several of us look at each other...no, that's not Jennifer....I felt honored though that she had Jennifer on the mind though! =)
I've got a lot to do this week! I'm sure my time off will go by really fast!
on the agenda:
1. clean the house
2. mow the lawn and pull weeds
3. bake something good
4. sew a skirt =)
5. enjoy my days off since they're the last one's I get till heading back to FL for my brother's wedding....work 3 12-hr shifts, one night off, work 2 more, go home! I still can't believe it's coming soooo soon!
So, Monday morning was a very exciting morning for me! I had talked about having spare keys for my house and car, but had yet to disperse them appropriately...you can probably see where this is going...
After my long weekend of working, Mondays are my days to sleep in...I'm talking 11ish. It's funny how I used to never be able to sleep that late, but I sure can now! Anywho, I woke up at about 11:30 am (still), rolled out of bed, got a sip of water and looked out my back window/door. I noticed one of my tomato plants had been knocked over...so I decided to go outside and fix it...still in my pjs, but it's my back yard! So, I preceded to do so, the door was unlocked, while I was at it I picked some tomatoes, but couldn't carry them all in my hands so took the 1st batch in and preceded back outside only this time the wind blew and slammed my back door. I was like ok...went to continue picking tomatoes...when I was done I went back to the door and it was LOCKED! Since I had just woke up I hadn't really grasped the idea quite fully that I was locked out of my house! No one else in Bham has a key to it, I couldn't drive anywhere, my phones were all inside, and if I even had a phone, the only phone #'s I have memorized are my parents' and people in gville.
I tried everything to unlock that door! I even resorted to trying to break my bedroom window and get back in, but I think that window is bullet proof or something! After about 30 minutes of shaking the back door (hoping if the wind slammed it closed and locked it maybe I could shake it unlocked), checking the front door. I preceded to go meet some of my neighbors for the 1st time (1st impressions let me tell ya!). My next door neighbor that I've interacted with the most was not home...so, I crossed the street to my other neighbor (quite a few houses are still for sale and lots of peeps are at work at this time of day!). She let me use her phone. She had a 2 year old named Katie who just was dying to play with me. The mom told me "she knows no strangers." At that point, I knew I was a stranger, but it felt really weird being told I was a stranger. I told her I worked at children's hospital and everything, but she was still uneasy, so after 20 mins at their home I decided to wait at my house and pull weeds while waiting for the locksmith who told me 30 mins...turned into an hour, but finally I got in. Took him only about 1 minute to get in.
Even after all that, I still was in disbelief that the door would just lock me out, but let me tell ya, I'm now prepared for if it does it again...I can't aford $65 to get back in my home on a regular basis!
Have any of you ever done anything like this or similar?!
Got locked out of the family van once, on a very country, deserted road, and had a loooong walk to get the key and get back to the van, at dusk. Not a fun experience.
oooh man!! Im glad someone was home! I've gotten locked out of my car before. Luckily, I was close enough to home that someone came and unlocked it for me. It happened a few times when I was working at Publix. Sorry I missed your calls....Im gonna call you today a lil later....it's still kinda early for yall.
I'm so glad you were able to get back in w/o too much trouble. It could have been a lot worse. An elderly lady I once knew told me how she got locked out in a see through nightgown with nothing on underneath. (at least her episode was at night) It sounds like yours are not scanty jammies. By the way, JoAnn's has free shipping right now if you need to order anything, you can buy online.
YES!! The first thing out of my mouth to him was, "I didn't wear any makeup tonight!" He was super nice..and yes my hubby is a doll to let me droll over John Travolta for a bit! He even gave me a little squeeze when he put his arm around me while we posed for the pic! I still can't belive it!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am ususally the unluckiest gal around...not last night though!! =)
I'm just hanging out, tryint to enjoy my time off while I can. Khloe had surgery on her little hip last week, so I have been nursing her back to health. Other than that not much else going on. I'm trying not to think anymore so my brain cells can recover a bit from a year and a half of thinking too much!!! How's everything with you?
