Hi-ber-nate, (v) - The suspension of activity during the winter cold period; To rest or sleep through the cold months; in a torpid or lethargic state
I am officially in hibernation.
Stephen and Jake went fishing... but instead of bringing home fish they brought home a new pet!
Here he is... Introducing Mr. Crawley!
Unfortunately Mr. Crawley is not very photogenic. Neither is he handsome cuddly or "cute". As a matter of fact, he sends shivers down my spine. But Jake just loves him. He is so proud of Mr. Crawley.
If you know me, you KNOW that I do NOT like creepy crawley things outside, let alone in my house! But somehow Mr. Crawley and I must learn to coexist. We must learn to be tolerant and share eachother's space... for the sake of my firstborn son.
So where is Mr. Crawley living, you ask?
In a plastic container - on my kitchen countertop! :-O
That's so sweet of Jake! What kind of critter is Mr. Crawley? I can't quite tell from the picture. He may not last too long in a plastic container if he's aquatic. Where did Jake find him? In the water? Under a rock? Crawling along the shore? Gimme the details! :D
Yeah, he needs to be moved to a little aquarium/bowl of some sort. I moved the mud and water to the other side of the bowl to take the picture (above), but he actually has a nice collection of mud and lake water in his little condo. He also has several leaves - but I need to add a few rocks. Jake found him in the mud. He was the smallest crawfish and apparently Jake felt he needed to live with us! :
Apparently you can get crayfish at Petsmart and Petco, so I assume they would have food and aquariums for them. How 'bout that? I had no idea they sold crayfish.
We let our oldest have a ball python for Christmas in the 7th grade. It was his grandmother's idea! When he left for college, it was finally adopted by his 7th grade science teacher.
That was a fabulous little link! I had no idea that petstores sold crawfish! It's much cheaper to dig 'em out of the mud! :D Crawley is diggin' his little condo, chowing down on his lettuce and enjoying his muddy water. We are developing a little bond - Mr. Crawley and I. We had a little chat and I told him that as long as he stays in his plastic tub, we're good. But there will be no tap dancing on my countertop!
Trevor and his best friend B. T. bought two piranha. One of them ate the other pretty quickly but the other one, bitey, was around for quite a while. When Trev and B. T. got a place of their own, Bitey went to live there. I can't say I was sorry to see him go! YUCK!!!
ohhh yucky! That's another "pet" I never thought about having! Stephen caught several piranha while he was fishing in California this summer. They are such ugly little creatures!
Yep. We were walking along the path under the trees, and I felt a cold "splat" on the top of my head. I said, "Please let that be a leaf or a twig or a bug!" It wasn't. I came home and took a long, hot, extra soapy shower. Bleh!!!
LOL!! I know! It's embarassing! It's alright though, girls. With God's help, we will somehow survive four years of socialism, job loss and high taxes. I predict the 2012 election will be a Republican landslide. :D
Halloween has become one of our very favorite holidays! Our neighborhood turns into Halloween Central every year with TONS of decorations, lawn parties everywhere, HUNDREDS of kids trick or treating, costumed dogs at nearly every house, firetrucks and police cars parked on the streets passing out LOADS of candy... It is just PURE FUN! Every year, the candy bags are SOOOO FULL, the kids have to drag them home!
So what on earth do we do with three large tupperware bowls of candy? Thankfully Jake's school has a candy drive for the troops overseas every year after Halloween... And I'm pretty sure we have enough candy to feed the entire country of Iraq this year!
Jake reminds me of Robbie Miller when he was younger. Both the kids were cute. We didn't have many tricker treaters and we ran out of candy. We didn't buy as much because no one came by last year and we ran out this year go figure.
Love the kids costumes and man do you guys have a lot of candy and people in your neighborhood. We barely got anyone down at the end of street. Its kind of spooky because its so dark but my dog went to one neighbors house with her costume on. I'll have to take a picture of it later. It was cheap and I added something to it to make it even cute. Anyway Thanks for sharing the picture and glad you all had fun. :)
Did you know that as part of his campaigning, Barack Obama has visited all 57 states in the contiguous US? Unfortunately, he was unable to go to Hawaii or Alaska (which is apparently ONE large state now).
