After months of missing all of my homeschool curriculum after moving, tonight, I finally found my Saxon Phonics stuff...oh well. I think I'll supplement all the public school stuff to make sure she's really doing well as time allows.
We're going to try to make the transition to whole foods/and some organic foods as the budget allows. Our son is just been really crazy, and it's time for a BIG change in his diet. He acts like I've seen other ADD kids are (without a ton of sugar, mind you), and we're ready to try whatever it takes to help him...we're adding wheat germ/flax seed supplement as well to see if this helps..
We're seen him be completely polite and sweet, to crazy and mean! Ahh!
Any ideas for making the famliy switch to whole foods/organic? I just bought 2 lbs. of grapes (which he loves) at $2.49 a pound...oh well, it's worth our sanity right?
Day 2: Foods:Kix cereal w/milk, veggie corn dog/applesauce/saltines/spaghetti meat/sauce/bread/homemade snickerdoodles snacks.
Behavior: Outbursts at having to leave friends/transition activities. Played at the park/climbing the wall and sliding down a pole.
Look into finding a co-op in your area. Or a farm in your area that sells shares. You pay a certain amount and you get fresh veggies (and possibly meat) each week.
Between the organic co-op and my own garden/orchard, we are changing more and more to the healthier foods. We have always been healthy eaters and as we age - well, we want to cheat the 'nursing home' out of many years and live contently at home. I know its hard, but try to stay away from all mixes - I've come up with hundreds of ideas on better use of our time and spending lots of time with husband and children (I have 3 - all grown and married). I published an international cook book that uses no mixes - you'd be surprised what you can come up with from an near-empty pantry. Good luck on your quest, your children will thank you someday.
I supplement with Ryan's and Ethan's schoolwork all the time. At this age, they don't have much "homework", and it leaves me a lot of opportunity to work with them on things I would be doing if I were homeschooling them. I find it to be a great happy medium. Especially with Ryan, this year he has an amazing teacher and I feel like he is really going to have a tremendous year, getting to have the stuff he does at school and the stuff he gets from me is going to give him a top-notch turbo boost with his language skills.
I do a page or two of Phonics Pathways with him most nights, we practice writing (part of his homework from school), and I am going through a book from Scholastic that is about word families, where you take a file folder, glue the cute cover on, cut around it and write all the words from that "family" inside the folder. He loves it! It is a fun, easy and quick hands-on activity that reinforces the word family he is studying at school. He loves to show his teacher.
Our oldest is going into K this year! We're finally registered for school....
We've gotten the supplies...and the "school" clothes....
Waiting....
In the meantime, our two year old counted from 1-9 today! (That's a step up from runnning as-fast-as-possible into walls ON PURPOSE AND LAUGHING just a few short months ago)...
Dawn, you gave me a great chuckle. Running into walls on purpose and laughing. Wonderful! And thank you for your encouraging comments concerning my workbooks for women. You should have seen my learning curve as I wrote them! I'm talking changes in my OWN life :-)
Dawn, my third workbook is written for teen girls (ages 10 thru) It is an attempt to prepare them for a later deeper study of the same subject Forgotten Womanhood. I've also incorporated within the workbook how to study the Bible the inductive method - my favorite method.
We've been staying pretty busy around here...had a good fried come down last weekend.
I've been trying to get ready for a yard sale soon....
Monday we went to Williamsburg/Jamestown and that was cool. We decided at the last minute to go..so at least we got one museum down, maybe we'll get to go again soon?
We had such a great time.
Today I took the kid's to the park and it was a great/hot time! Our little boy is growing up fast and he's sooo busy! The park is a great place.
This weekend we might be meeting some friend's family that will be visiting this Sunday for services. And, I'm teaching the ladies class this Sunday afternoon.
