Well, my mom is not going to be able to participate in the clinical trial after all. For some reason, her neurologist in Nashville gave her one diagnosis and put something different in her records. So, the people who are doing the clinical trial have to go by the official written diagnosis and there are no clincial trials for that type of MS. She was very discouraged, but is switching to the doctor that is doing the clinical trial in December. He also sees patients.
Austin's mom has been touch and go for the last few days. This morning we heard that she had a blood clot on her brain and was again on a respirator. This afternoon, the doctors said that the blood clot was gone and that she is off the respirator again. She is conscious and talking some as well.
Austin still does not know about the baby, and was asking for him today. When asked where his mom is, he said "hospital, sick, sleeping". He is too precious.
On a good note, one of my students who came to me a non-reader actually read his first book today. I cried.
narey_kayDeana.....you are such a wonderful teacher and such a sweet caring person. God broke the mold on you girl!

Prayers 10-16-08 05:30pm CST
As you all know, my mom has struggled with MS for years. Her neurologist in Nashville has not been very helpful about treatments. He told her the last time she was there that there was nothing he could do and that he would just manage her symptoms. This is what he has been doing all along. So, I did some research and it turns out that there might be a treatment option after all. She is going Monday to the Neuroscience Institute to talk with another neurologist about a new drug that has been fast-tracked by the FDA for her type of MS. He will look at her medical records and she has to have a blood test to determine if she has a specific type of antibody in her blood. If all goes well, she will be able to start this new treatment. We are cautiously optimistic, as she has gotten her hopes up in the past only to be sent home. Please pray that God's will be done and that she will be able to enter this clinical trial.
Thanks!

My "it" is actually an ovarian cyst. I had my ultrasound on Tuesday and I must say it was quite an experience. I haven't heard back yet about the size, but the ultrasound tech said that based on the CT scan, the cyst is the same size as my ovary. It doesn't hurt as much as before.

We went on our field trip on Tuesday morning to Honeysuckle Hill Farms. It was alot of fun, even though we had to run in and out of the rain several times. The kids loved seeing the animals, milking the fake cow and walking through the Tennessee Twister. Austin ran around for days before we went saying "Hey Patrick, animals, suckle farm?" I have to say that out of all the students I have had, he has touched me the most. I have watched him progress from being completely nonverbal in kindergarten, having screaming fits, hitting and biting to third grade where he is having actual conversations. God is truly amazing!
amydeeHey girl! It sounds like you had fun on the fieldtrip (minus the rain). Still praying for you & hope you feel all better soon!
narey_kayThanks girl! I am sorry aobout your rainy field trip. Kind of a bummer but I am sure that the kids loved it. :)

All is well 10-02-08 02:44pm CST
I just got back from the doctor's office. She is sending me to have an ultrasound on Tuesday afternoon to make sure it hasn't gotten any bigger. She gave me some medication and is going to watch it. She figures it will disappear within the next few months, but wants to watch it just in case. I go back to see her in November. I am sooo relieved. Thanks for all of your prayers and support.
southern_yankee_momSo happy to hear that everything looks pretty good. I will continue to pray for you. Love you!
loruhamaI have missed what is going on with you. I saw below you were on antibiotics, but I didn't know why. I read back through to see if I missed something, but if it's here, I'm still missing it.
amydeeGreat news! I know that you are relieved! Praying that the stinker is shrinking as we speak!
graminatorI guess I missed it, too ... but it sounds like good news!
sgarner2005Oh, so glad to hear that. Hope you are feeling well!
mrs_poochiesounds like good news, but what is "it"?

Full Moon 09-30-08 05:37pm CST
There must be a full moon coming up. My kids were crazy today. They were falling out of their chairs, running up and down the halls, talking over top of me, and then wondering why I was fussing. The teacher's aide that comes in with Austin just looked at me today and cracked up. Sometimes you just have to laugh. I am not so naive that I expect them to sit still and be robots. But a little order never hurts.
Here's an Austinism-"Hey Patrick, sweat". He was sweaty from playing outside and wanted me to wipe his head off with a paper towel. He also grabbed another student's "finding nemo fruit snacks" and put them all in his mouth and then took them out and gave them back to the other student, knowing he would not eat them. He then looked at me and said "Hey Patrick, finding nemo fruit snacks". He cracks me up!
By the way, Melissa has a pleo page now. Check it out!
sgarner2005Too funny! One of my friends came in town last night and she's a 3rd grade teacher with an autistic kid, and she says he calls her "Mullins" which is her last name. So I find that funny that Austin does the same thing to you. She was telling me some funny stories about him too.
