Today was the Halloween Party at Emma's preschool. It was a lot of fun!! I got to go early and help out with the class before the party started because one of the teachers had to take her husband to the hospital with kidney stone...ouch!! But I enjoyed helping the kids work on a couple of worksheets and read them several Halloween stories. It was funny because several of the kids told me that they weren't allergic to milk (all of the kids know that Emma can't have anything with milk in it). One little boy also asked me if I knew that my daughter talked funny --Emma does tend to talk very fast and slurs her sounds together.

I told some people that I would post a picture of the cupcakes that I took to a Halloween party Saturday. I thought they turned out cute.

I will admit that sometimes I get really tired of:
*cooking two meals most nights (one Emma-friendly & one for the rest of us --- we haven't learned to live without dairy products)
*cooking biscuits and corn before we can go out to eat at Cracker Barrel
*spending lots of time reading labels on the back of food items before giving them to my children (but a big "thank you" to whoever passed the regulation that food allergies had to be clearly printed on the label --saves me a lot of time!)
*making a cupcake to send to preschool whenever another child has a birthday or figure out how to make the preschool snack on a particular day Emma friendly (I have made a couple batches of homemade donuts becuase of this)
*feeling sad that I cannot make my favorite childhood cookies with my children because they contain peanut butter
BUT I have found a silver lining in having children with food allergies: You can go through their Halloween candy and pull out all the Reese's cups, Snickers bars, Kitkats....ALL the really good stuff and keep it for YOURSELF --- guilt-free because they can't eat it! |

I realized the other day that I am way overdue for a new post. We have had a very busy October....with lots of stuff left to do! :)
At the end of September, I went and spent a few days up in Memphis with Rebecca. It was nice to get away for a few days. I had a really good time and had the best blueberry croissant pudding (think bread pudding made with croissants....YUM!) I also was proud of myself because I did not spend too much money at the Williams-Sonoma and Pottery Barn outlet stores....although I did get a very cute Thanksgiving tablecloth from Pottery Barn Outlet!
I also worked four vacation days at the new pharmacy that I have started doing some relief work for. I really love it there. Going with the independent pharmacy was absolutely the best decision for me. AND....believe it or not..when the pharmacist called and asked if I could please work another day (on top of the 4 that I was already working) - I told her no. My main concern with choosing the independent pharmacy was that I would be unable to say, "No" and I would end up working more than I really cared too. It helped that the person who hired me was appalled that she even called to ask me that after I had agreed to work 4 days for her to go to the beach and that was 2 more days than what I had told them that I would work a month. Despite all that, I do really like it there. I get along with all 3 techs and the owner seems to be a really great person....plus they seem to be excited when I work...which is always nice. :)
We took the kids to Tate Farms last week and we all had a blast. Lauren has been begging for weeks to go. She couldn't wait to hold the bunny rabbits-although now all she will talk about is how the bunny scratched her finger! Lauren also enjoyed the corn crib - I think that she would have played in there the whole time. Emma loved to jump off the loft into the hay pile. I couldn't believe my daughter who is scared of heights would jump from that height over and over again. We also went on the hayride and got our pumpkins. When I get a chance, I will post some pictures. Going to Tate Farms is one of our favorite Fall traditions.
Coming up, we have a Halloween party to go to on Saturday night, Trunk-n-Treat at her house on Sunday night, Emma's preschool Halloween party on Thursday and Treat-or-Treat day at Daniel's work on Friday (which is really neat because a lot of the bays decorate in various themes and hand out candy to all the kids --- of course, in Daniel's bay there are a bunch of boring engineers and they never participate.) Then on Saturday, Daniel and I are headed to Oxford, MS to go to the Ole Miss - Auburn game.
Whew.....that was just October......you should see my November!! |
