Twilight 11-21-08 09:15pm CST
Gasp! I actually got to see a movie the day it came out! Chris and I got to see Twilight this afternoon.

I loved it. It made me laugh and stuck closer to the book than I'd anticipated. Chris liked it, too.

Though, I will admit, I almost fainted during one scene. I really can't take gore...especially if I'm really into the movie and could see me in the characters place. (I really identified w/ Bella).

**********************************

Went to Dickson last night to see Chris' mom on her birthday. It was good to see them again, and they gave us a Christmas tree and ornaments to use in our living room.

I had lunch w/ Damon and mom yesterday at Damon's school. It was pretty good for school food.

No change on the job front right now. We are convinced that Chris can do it, though!

I'm not sure what I'm doing tomorrow. Chris has to work. I'll probably work on my book and clean the house. Then maybe I'll see what my family is up to.

Thanksgiving is going to be crazy for us. Thursday lunch at my parents. Friday supper at my cousins. Saturday lunch at my grandmothers. After that I won't need to eat for a week! Good times to come, I'm sure!

I'm really having trouble keeping my violin in tune in this cold weather. It really hasn't seen any in 5 years. Plus, it's really dry in the house. I bought a humidifer that fits in my violin case today. I also got a fiddle book for Damon to start with and a book with 168 music game ideas in it. Yay. Damon is now learning "She'll Be Comin' Round the Mountain". :)

Time to go for now.

Have a great weekend!

Ashley

verny_mackDo instruments go out of tune quicker in colder weather? or extreme temperatures?
verny_mackHmm..Interesting. :) Thanks for that information!

Musical Wednesday :) 11-19-08 09:06pm CST
So, three of my four Wed students made it today. The fourth is coming tomorrow with a newly fixed violin (Mr. Carpenter at The Violin Shop is wonderful).

Since the music room was very warm, I spent several hours playing violin and piano while waiting for students. I played through parts of Suzuki book 5 and 6 for violin and I'm working on the Moonlight Sonata on piano. I also played a Beethoven Violin Sonata and part of his Romance. Music is so great for cleansing the mind.

Please pray for my friend Melanie. She lost her grandmother yesterday and has to have surgery on the day that her father passed away. She really needs the prayers.

I felt very happy for most of the day. That was such a great feeling given how things have been lately. So many wonderful friends and family have been there for us already and want to help. Chris goes back to work tomorrow, so let's pray he does well with the multi-tasking.

Chris signed up for the Navy Reserves today. We'll be glad to at lesat have a little extra cash each month, and hope the reserves doesn't have to be turned into "active".

Off to find a snack w/ my hubby.

~Ashley
justcallmekateSo glad that you had a good day!! I can just hear the beautiful music that was flowing through your house today!!! Ahhh, if you ever want to get away and just come to Huntsville and play at my house, you come on down!! :)
laurar209Heh... your first goal? To make a list!
Amen to music cleansing the mind. I've loved playing Beethoven and Mozart in the background while the girls I nanny for play. SO much better than the TV noise they normally listen to!
didowToday is my private lesson day. I go from 1:30 - 5:30. I'll even have a cello student today. I like to sit and play through the Suzuki books when I get a chance. I don't get much time for that or the piano lately.
didowI've been wanting to write a Moses song. I seem to do better writing the songs when I'm actually teaching the class. I have not gotten to teach Moses to the little ones in quite a while.

I didn't say I knew how to play the cello. I just said I had a cello student coming over today. My first experience with a cello was when I bought one for James. He was 9 years old. He got pretty good at it. Now I have 4 cello students in the orchestra. I can play it some. I'm much better at telling them how to do it. :)

And the week begins... 11-16-08 10:17pm CST
Today was good. Two good sermons, a baptism, and a singing class. After the baptism a little kid behind me exclaimed "She's all wet!". It was cute. And, we had seven in the four year old class. Usually we have five. They were fairly good given the extras.

There are three people that my main character helps in my new book. I just started on the third one. That means I just get that character fixed and wrap it up. Then the big editing...
Chris and my in-laws like it. I just hope everyone else will. It makes me laugh to write it...maybe that's a good indication.

Tomorrow is duets with my former teacher, designing printing and distributing of new business flyers, hauling off trash, talking to Navy Recruiter, and one violin student, day.

Thanks so much to everyone for the kind thoughts and prayers about my last couple of blogs. Please, please continue to pray. We are already trying to weigh as many other options as possible just to be prepared for anything. I know that God will take care of us no matter what. It's just scary waiting for His answers sometimes.

Off to watch more LOST. Those people definitely have it worse than we do...haha. ;)

Have a great week!

Ashley

didowI'm glad your kids enjoyed the song. It's one of my favorites.
emmybearlol-man i miss lost:( i haven't been able to catch up and watch any for so long!!
the_rainy_dogHaha, you're right about those Lost people you know! ;-)

I'm glad you had some sunshine in your life! We understand it's hard to wait for God's answers. But you'll be glad after you've pulled through. :-)
millychloeHey, I'll be praying for you and your husband that he will be able to keep the job, or find one in the area that he likes better. He can always try a temp agency or something, maybe? That's what my husband did, and if they like him they'll hire him.

A little more info now that I've calmed down a bit. 11-14-08 08:57am CST
Thank you all for the many prayers that have alraedy been offered. Please keep them going.

Chris told me that I can tell you all what is going on so that your prayers can be specific. He is having trouble multi-tasking at work (i.e. talking on the radio, typing, and talking on the phone at the same time). I have to admit...I don't think I could do that either. Anyway, he has until January to learn how to do this stuff correctly or we will have to find him a new job.

He is very serious about possibly going into the Navy again because we know that will take care of us. But, this saddens me greatly because we will have to move again (probably to a foreign country), we will have to leave family...again, and I'll have to start my studio over...again. Plus finding a new congregation to worship with. Sigh.

There is a wonderful lady at his work who is going to do all that she can to help his situation. Please pray that she has the right knowledge to help with this.

I know I'm being selfish, but I really don't want to start over again. We're finally getting settled here and love living close to family and friends. And we love worshiping at Jackson Heights. We're finally finding our place there.

Also, please pray that my studio picks up at the beginning of the year. I had 9 students, and as soon as I had 9, two quit. They say they will come back soon...and I hope that is true. So, if you know anyone in this are who's interested in violin, voice, piano, or Kindermusik (ages 3 months to 7 years), please let me know.

I know God will do what is best for us...It's just so hard to keep thinking that.

Ashley
engelishgentleman:-( Hope things work out. I surely don't understand how God provides for us.
erica03Everyone is cutting back with the economy the way that it is. Some feel it more than others. I would love to get Karys into violin, but I have her private tuition to pay for. Well, and another baby on the way!

strawberry_patchI will be praying for ya'll! I now how it is too get uprooted, I was always moving around growing up, I'm sure it will work out!
beccaswifeWe'll be praying for your situation! Just keep in mind Phil 4:6-8!
paradise_rayAshley- I am praying for you! Remember that the "rests" in life are just as important as the measures with the most notes! ;)
didowI've wondered if the economy is going to affect people giving their kids private music lessons. I haven't lost any over it yet but I'm wondering if I will.

I've always heard that guys have a harder time multi-tasking than girls do. I used to be better at it than I am now.
mrethanks. :) i will be praying for you as well.

Prayers... 11-13-08 06:59pm CST
We really could use some prayers right now. Chris came home with upsetting news. If things don't work out he might have to change jobs or we might have to move again. I'm tired. I really wish things would quit going wrong.

slackcoderI'm so sorry to hear that. Will be praying!
engelishgentlemanI can understand how you feel, I think. I will pray.

aubrey_leighI'm so sorry, darlin'. We will pray. And God can make beautiful things come from things that initially seem to be bad! It will all work out.
didowI'm sure things will work out. Sometimes the things that don't go the way we want are the best things that ever happened to us.

rosesandtherainI love you.
on_eagles_wingsI really know how you feel. I'm sorry things have been so turbulent for a while now. One of these days, it WILL settle down. It's hard getting started out in life. Just hang in there and keep loving each other and face things united together. God will give you the wisdom to work things out. Just know that lots of folks are struggling right now. We may have to move soon, too. We don't know if hubby's job is going to hold out or not in these uncertain times. Let's pray for each other!
emmybearsorry to hear that:(
