We had a great birthday party for Annalise! She loved balloons, cake icing, people and presents. We were so thankful to be surrounded by loved ones on her special day.

crazy_mamaUsing chocolate icing first is a great idea! Thanks for the tip on that!
ex_patShe is cute. I can't believe it has been a year.
aschlosserSo cute - the cake was amazing!
neenoutGreat pictures! She is such a cute little girl!
txwhittlecHappy Birthday, Annalise! She is so cute! Pretty cake! Great family picture! :)
gemmaThanks! And yes, jenn and I made it.

mpettesShe is so adorable, and you guys look great. What a sweet, happy family. Her cake was too cute!
jifennerhIf you're talking about halloween, I was a photographer. =]
create_a_waythanks for sharing, Stephanie! And that's a really cute cake/birthday girl! ladybug cake was Noelani's first, as well! Are you guys coming to lectures this year for Bryan's reunion?
megWhat sweet pictures!!
pohatgirloh she is so cute! :]
sallyanneJust saw your comment before signing off. Those pictures are six years old--almost seven! I should have labeled them better.

They stopped wearing them a few years ago, though the two youngest sometimes still match. They sometimes coordinate their clothing, though :)
jifennerhThanks. =] I'm just glad I'll be ready for Thanksgivng, lol.
jifennerhYeah. I need some now. I tried eating grits and those don't work, so I'm eating more applesauce. Mashed potatoes fill me up more though. =/
brigstervery nice. congratulations!
smiley_bethWhen I first saw these pics I noticed that she has been blessed with lots of beautiful hair. But after digging up a 1 yr pic of our Hannah I realize just how much beautiful hair Annalise has. We did have our first bangs cutting not too long ago, so she's growing it now, but it's been slow comparitavely. We can get pig tails and not too far from a pony tail.
sweetisthesongWhat a cutie!Happy B-Day!
sjbHey thanks!! I have lost a little weight... haven't lost much more recently, but it feels good to have those jeans falling off. =-)

Those pics of your little girl are TOO CUTE!! I know you are a wonderful mother to her. Can you believe she's one?
matermagistraHow cute!!!

She has a ton more hair than Trina...which means you get to put pretty bows in it.

She is so cute and you did an amazing job on her cake.

Feeling thankful... 11-06-08 02:31pm CST
I'm sitting on my couch watching Annalise flip through a Mickey Mouse book over and over. She just leaned over and kissed Minney Mouse. Does life get any better than this moment?

She'll be one next week and I can't believe it! We're having a pink ladybug themed party and I'm going to attempt to make a ladybug cake. I'm really excited about it. We're just having a small family party at our house and I think it's going to be really fun.

I'm thankful for the wonderfully blessed year we've had - for all these priceless moments of simple joy.

I've learned a few things: There's no sweeter smell than a baby's freshly shampooed hair, there's no greater peace than seeing your baby sleep, there is no joy more jubilant than witnessing your baby reach another milestone, there is no more strongly felt empathy than when your baby is sick or hurting, there is no heavier responsibility than having a precious soul entrusted to you, and there is no vision of beauty that can compare to seeing the sunset reflected in your baby's eyes.

"Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, to Him {be} the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen." -Eph. 3:20-21

Thanks be to God for the beautiful answer to our prayer - Annalise.
tnerbydoomGreat post. It is so sad when they get that big frown and cry. But the immediate calm that comes the moment you pick them up is just the opposite.
txwhittlecNo way! She can't be 1 already! Children are gifts from the Lord. Psalm 127:3-5
So happy that God has blessed you with Annalise. :)
gemmaThanks! And it's also really nice at school because guys hold the doors open for me all the time. I really appreciate that not only because they are being courteous, but I've also had my back pack get stuck in a closing door sometimes when it's on it's wheels. =P I can't believe she is almost one! I cant wait to see the three of you at Thanksgiving!
maxsoraPlease post pictures of Annalise's party and the pink ladybug cake! Sounds like lots of fun. Can you believe my youngest cousin's news????
jifennerh^ yes please! Can't wait to see you guys!! And you better stay at our house!!
ktjomoodyWhat a beautiful way to word your feelings. It's amazing how these little people change our lives in such a wonderful way. Love you all. Happy birthday to Annalise!
smiley_bethAmen to all the joys of being a momma. Can't believe how fast this past year has gone.
crazy_mamaLOVE THIS POST!!!!! Reading a mother's words about her children is so precious. I'm so glad God has blessed you with such a special daughter. You just can't imagine life without her huh?! Happy early birthday to her. Can't wait to see pictures of her birthday party. Noelani's 1st birthday was ladybug themed too! I loves it!
sallyanneLovely words!
neenoutShe has grown so fast. What a sweet post full of great thoughts!
ritabita821I can't believe she's turning one already!
lydiasmotherOne oh my, time passes way to fast. There is nothing like a child, no love like you have for a child and nothing greater then having her/him say I love you, kisses, hugs and smiles. It took us a while to have Lydia but so worth the wait. I am so glad that you have a beautiful healthy one to make your day. Our first b-day party was cinderella(that was mostly for me---LOL). Have fun on the cake that should be fun. You could use licorice for antennea and maybe those necco thingy candies for the dots? just a thought!
tbirdawesome post!
green_gourmetIsn't it amazing what a child can do to you?(In a good way of course:)
megWhat a great post!

I love my baby's freshly shampooed hair, too. I thought I was just silly, but I guess not! I love having kids. There's such a depth of understanding of my relationship to God that increases as they get older.
mamapOne of my favorite memories with all four of my kids was carrying them through the house swaddled in their bath towel (with the hood on their heads). I would take them to everybody to get sweet clean kisses... Ahhh...such precious, precious moments of motherhood... There's nothing like it.

I am so thankful that you are wise enough to cherish each and every one of them as they pass so quickly...
sjbGreat post, Steph. Thanks for sharing!
ktjomoodyHAPPY BIRTHDAY ANNALISE! We LOVE YOU LOTS!! I wish we could be there to celebrate with you.
courtcraigHappy Birthday Annalise!!! We love you tons and tons!!!
rica5219Happy birthday to Annalise! :)

One thing is certain... 11-04-08 11:00pm CST
God is still our King. The election didn't go the way I had hoped, but thankfully my greatest hope will never be disappointed:

Psa 38:15 "For I hope in You, O LORD; You will answer, O Lord my God."

Psa 31:24 "Be strong and let your heart take courage, All you who hope in the LORD."

Psa 39:7 "And now, Lord, for what do I wait? My hope is in You."

It doesn't really matter who our president is as long as we remember who our King is.
sallyanneAmen!
txwhittlecVery good thoughts, Steph. I couldn't have said it any better. :)
lydiasmotherVery true. I am so glad that this election is over so I can stop hearing who or who does not approve anything!!!!!! My hope is built on nothing less then Jesus blood and righteousness.
tnerbydoomGood point...Let's all move to Toronto and live close to Heather and Dave! j/k
mavisGood thoughts...I was disappointed as well.
crazy_mamaSo true! Even though FL went blue it wasn't cause we didn't try!! I am not looking forward to telling Noelani that Obama won. She won't be happy about this at all!
ex_patNo matter who is in the White House, The Lord is in control!
green_gourmetGood verses to remember. We need some inspiring words on a tough morning.
smiley_bethAmen!
sjbAmen!

Don't Forget! 11-03-08 11:48pm CST
(a) If you are an American citizen and
(b) you are registered to vote, then
(c) don't forget to vote Tuesday, November 4th.

Living in a democracy is a precious blessing that we shouldn't take for granted. If you've never voted before, this is the time to do it. I believe this is the most important election of our lifetime. Vote your conscience. Vote your convictions.

There's something empowering about pulling that lever. We can sit around all day and complain about our country being in the toilet or we can do something about it. You are an American and you have a voice. Don't be silent.

crazy_mamaNoelani CAN'T wait to vote with us tomorrow. We are going to be praying alot about it tonight.
crazy_mamaOf course I remember that post!!! I don't think you can ever forget something like that now can you!! We do love some mexican food. Maleia can really take some fire in it too. She can handle the hot stuff that none of the rest of us can and she doesn't even bat and eye at it. Crazy girl!
grgapchThis was the first time I've baked in a pyrex bowl. To be on the safe side, I dropped the oven temp. down to 325 and I believe it baked for about 45 minutes. I also used a flower nail (in place of a heating core) in the bottom of the bowl.
tbirdi had never heard of the honeycrsip either. but they are def yummy and def healthy.
aschlosserI didn't get to pull a lever - just tap the "vote" button on the screen - I think a lever would be more fun! My parents waited 4 and 5 hours to vote and here in KS I went early and didn't wait behind even one person....I have to say I was grateful to not have to wait like that with a 3 year old!
tbirdi'm def not going to forget to vote, but i can't make myself vote for either of these candidates. choosing between these two is like choosing a pet for my children when the only options are 1) a mature, male tiger or 2) a mature, male lion. sorry kids, there will be no pets today.
tbirdi've been thinking about this verse some this year... daniel 4:25 "recognize that the Most High is ruler over the realm of mankind and bestows it on whomever He wishes."
txwhittlecI voted! :)
co_chadYou get to pull a lever?? Jealous. Yes, jealous...except that I voted two weeks ago via mail in ballot and I will not see a line today.
sjbI voted this morning. =-)

Merry Christmas to Me! 10-09-08 08:53pm CST
For Christmas, Bryan gave me a gift certificate to a nail salon and I finally redeemed it tonight! It was the best pedicure and manicure I've ever had. It was so nice to sit back and relax and get pampered.

I've probably gone to a nail salon 20 or so times in my life and tonight was the first time I've seen a male client! It appeared to me that he was half of a couple. I 'm trying to imagine Bryan sitting next to me getting his feet massaged but my imagination can only go so far! :)

According to Bryan, our local sports radio program has been advertising a new place in Birmingham called "The Male Room," which features barber shop haircuts, and also foot and hand detailing (pedicures and manicures).

So, these two occurences have my wheels turning. Are there a bunch of closet male nail salon frequenters out there? How many of you guys have had a manicure or pedicure? Common...time to 'fess up!
lydiasmotherI think it is perfectly fine for the men to get their nails done, maybe not as consistant as women but still they desearve the relaxation too huh? greg got his nails done a few times and he loves loves loves the massage they do. I think that more men are coming to realize that it is feels good and is nice ever so often. The one I go to, there are alot of couples that go, and the one guy was a big burly body building looking guy--and man did his feet and hands look good!!!!! i like how they call it detailing--that is classic.
crazy_mamaI MADE (and I stress MADE) Frederic get his hair, nails, eyebrow wax and get a massage before our wedding. It was my wedding gift to him! Who am I kidding...it was a wedding gift for myself. I really didn't want his hands to be all scruffy and his brows to be out of control in our wedding pics!! He did enjoy it but has never been back and I don't think he ever will go back. I can't picture him spending extra cash on that.

I can't believe your sweet baby is going to be 1 in a few weeks. When did that happen?
ex_patMen that work office jobs where they are talking to clients, often do this to have a neat clean appearance.
globetrotterThere's a men-only salon somewhere in Tampa as well. It had some clever name too, but I can't remember it right now. Of course, Derek Jeter lives in Tampa half the year, and he is famous for his pampering.
meganI took Greg with me to a nails place two days before our wedding for a "sports pedicure" or something to that effect. I'd say it's more common than we think, but obviously most men would probably rather go to an all-male salon than go on their own. He willingly went but was sort of afraid of being made fun of!
meganThat men-only salon in Tampa may be "The Difference," but now it services both men and women. I went in once and it felt very man-oriented. Of course all the staff who worked there were very attractive females!
co_chadThis post has too M-U-C-H estrogen; I hereby still stay away.
jshendI have given Tonya gift cert. for such and have gone with her for manicures.
deanneIt was good to see you on Saturday. Annalise is a cutie!!
co_chadUm, no.
emilylankfordJosh would definitely NOT enter a nail salon...unless he was dropping me off & picking me up (even then he would probably prefer to sit in the car):) I am getting some sleep...it really hasn't been too bad. Plus, Josh is a TERRIFIC help to me! I owe you an email..
tbirdnegative. good to see you, bryan, and the little princess a couple of weeks ago.
sjbBoth my dad and my brother have gotten manicures. They don't get polish, of course, but it keeps them from biting their nails. I thought it was weird, at first, but apparently, it's not that uncommon. =-)
mamapMy Dad and his wife have birthdays only five days apart. (Today was my Dad's birthday, btw. He is 76.) Last year, I gave them "matching" gift certificates to a nail salon in an effort to get him to go with her to get a pedicure. I told him it was "acceptable" now for a man to do so. Guess what? It didn't happen. I think Connie got two pedicures out of the deal... ;) This year, I gave them gift cards to Cracker Barrel. Now THOSE will get used! :)
create_a_wayin addition to what she posted, when I was 19-20, I used to get manicures occasionally. The lady would put on my fingernails something that was called, "Nails for Males." But I quickly stopped when my homosexual acting buddies thought I had taken a small step out of the closet. I have never gotten a manicure since, except for my wife on our wedding. Barring some unforeseen motivation, I never will again, either! :)
riptidesome of the guys at work actually recommended a place that gives you chocolate dipped fruit ect. while you are getting a pedicure.
smiley_bethI get the Wilton's paste at Wal-mart. Any craft type store would probably have them too.
joshreavesStephanie, I have never had a manicure or a pedicure but I do get my eyebrows waxed, and I feel good about it! Boy, sure does give me greater respect for the whole waxing the legs bit yall do!
