Turkey day has come and gone leaving lots of turkey leftovers in it's wake!
Black Friday shopping has come and gone ~ we survived, see her page for more info and pics. We ended up coming home and taking naps!
We are enjoying some great family time, being all together; having extra time off is so relaxing.
Unfortunately for me ~ I have to begin work on my next ~ last paper for writing class. It is a topic that I do not know much about. But after reading all the research material that she gave us before the holiday, I should know all kinds of stuff about the "Blood Diamond" trade. She is even going to show us the movie with Leo DeCaprio in it. I'm going to ask her if I can bring popcorn. hmmm Maybe it's not that kind of movie. Anyone seen it???
Not a topic I would have picked but it is worth 25 - 35 points of my grade for the class. So, I guess I better get into IT.
So, I leave you to your holiday musings while I delved into a darker world that I am not too sure that I want to know about.
Marriage is what brings us here together today.
Love true love..
oh well.
Yes, in my writing class we get the privilege of reading all these wonderful writings about arranged marriage and how the families in Iran and India STILL do this practice today.
In my research, I have come to the conclusion that YES, arranged marriage CAN work and it can have good outcomes. In India, for example, the divorce rates are way low! Don't bother to compare that to the divorce rates here in US of A. We got smoked.
and YES, there are some instances where arranged marriages can fail. But in one of our stories, the reasons for the failure are many, but the FAMILY actually put their daughter at risk by allowing her to go into the city and work. There, in the city she saw that there were more possibilities for her than the future that awaited her. In that story, she was "betrothed" when they were children. They were allowed to remain with their families until she was 18 yrs and the boy was 21 yrs. Also note worthy, there was pressure in the families to LIE about the actual ages of the children so that one family could have the benefit of having the other child to work the family business.
Interesting...
The criteria that the families looked at were:
Physical appearance
Edcation
Religion
Family financials
Family standing
Caste
The families would meet first and IF they agreed then they would allow the 2 people to meet ~ briefly and then it was supervised.
Often they were only allowed to meet before the wedding ceremony.
Their saying was "Love comes after marriage"
Did I tell you that in this paper I had to support arranged marriages and point out all the good that can come from it?
More later....
Rough Draft #1 due Wednesday.
Final due Monday Dec. 1st
When I was little, I saw a movie where there was an "arranged marriage," and I was terrified that I was going to have to marry someone when I grew up who I didn't know!!
I had fun seeing Twilight with you last night!! This has been an interesing paper for you to write about. But it is cool to know more about it and what it is!
Sorry about the absence, haven't really felt like posting or knowing what to post about.
Today is Saturday and it is the 1st Sat. I've had off in the past 2 months or so. So, I celebrated by sleeping in and once I woke up, fixed a big family breakfast!
The kids have a nice looooooonnnnnnngggggg weekend. No school for them Monday or Tuesday! Lucky them ~ I still have my writing class. It will still be a nice break for them.
I have 2 reaction papers due, so I will work on them.
Just wanted to say Hello to everyone out there!
Hope yall are all well!
I think the word values has a totally different meaning these days. Many people say that Obama has great values. They either don't know what he stands for or thinks those things are real values!
Bless you! FIND A PLACE!!!! I get a headache trying to figure out which meal or who's bed-time or work schedule I am going to mess up if I call you! LOL ;) You know how hard it is being me...right?
I'm sorry! I dont mean for anyone to be worried or concerned about me...or even confused! Why do I must consider it bad if Mr. Frederic knows? haha. Thank you for the prayers and encouragement though. The thing wont be a secret for ever (..just a very long time). ;)
Good question. The clock on the wall says 7:20. My computer clock says 6:19. My computer is stuck on the old DST. I'm so confused! The good news is that I'll be adjusted when the time really does change!
Halloween card mailed. Went as an identity crisis. Put "Hi My Name Is..." stickers on my clothes with different names all over them. Will call tonite if you will be home....let me know.
