Hi, I hope everyone is having a good November.
I thought I'd tell you about our experience tonight. Brad and I went to see a concert - the Transiberian Orchestra. Brad had been really wanting to go, so as soon as church was over tonight, we zipped on over there and went. I've never been to a conert like that. During the 70's when all the other teens were into rock, I was into people like John Denver and Dan Fogelburg. Well, I wasn't sure about the first half of the concert. It was very interesting - Christmas music with a theme with rock music and lights and fog etc. Kind of odd. But the second half was amazing. It was basically a rock concert, but by an orchestra.
They had strobe lights, lasers, fog, people rising on platforms, fire bursts and opera singing. It was amazing. I'm not really into rock music and I have to admit I did take my earplugs, and could hear just fine with them in. The show itself was something to see.
Have any of you been to a concert where they have the strobe lights and lasers etc.?
Never have. I thought there for a minute that you actually went to a "real" orchestra. I'm with you on the rock vs John Denver.
Does your son still play viola? Andrew has played viola for 3 years now and this year started the big bass. It's really neat but we have to transport it. That's one disadvantage of home schooling. You have to buy all the instruments and you can't leave them in the band room. There is no band room.
I have some sort of problem. I can't handle lasers, strobe lights, 3D. I couldn't even look through a Viewmaster! IMAX ...I had to lean back in my chair and shut my eyes. Sadly, I wasn't a very fun mom.
it might not quite be all the way in Columbia. It's off of Exit 63. I'm going to talk to him on his way up there and I'll ask again what it was called and let you know. I can't remember off the top of my head.
1. I used to play the guitar and the piano, although I haven't played much since I got married.
2. I have a germ phobia.
3. I got a Nursing License when I was around 40.
4. My favorite musical group is Styx and my favorite singers are Josh Grobin, Celine Dion, and Barbara Streisand.
5. I really love the Ocean. I feel at peace when I'm near it.
6. My favorite color is blue. I have a blue house, and blue countertops, blue carpet, etc.
7. Brad and I were best friends for a year and a half before we got together.
8. I love to fish, although I haven't done it much lately. My favorite all time fishing experience was when I went shrimping. The next favorite was when I went night fishing and we hung a lantern out over the boat. The bugs came to the light, the fish came to the bugs, we caught the fish. Great fun!
Check out the picture of William with the pumpkins! He is at the age where everything is so exciting for him.
I'm not big on pumpkin pie but I think I'm going to try a new recipe for for my mother's birthday. She made me my very favorite pie - strawberry. So, I need to come up with something really good for her.
What is your favorite dessert?
How cute. He's getting so big. My favorite dessert is just about any kind of pie. I've gotten really picky though. It has to be homemade or it doesn't taste good. If I was making one for myself it would be an apple pie. I make Chocolate for Danny and the boys. They are both soooo good. Have you ever made a pumpkin pie with real pumpkin (not canned)? I did once and it was very good. It had a little more texture than the canned stuff.
I love those layered desserts with graham crackers and nuts and chocolate pudding and whipped cream, etc. But I do love lots of different kinds of desserts. A good blackberry cobbler and vanilla ice cream is awesome, too!
It has been a while since I have blogged. I had a nasty cold for a while and then went out of town last week to see my relatives in Missouri. My grandmother is getting to be very old and I hadn't seen her in a year and a half. It was wonderful getting to visit with her again and with my other relatives in that area. My grandmother and aunts and uncles still call me DonnaGail. They made me feel young again. My grandmother even bought me an ice cream cone! :)
Do any of you have names that only close relatives call you?
It's good to hear from you. I haven't gotten to see relatives in a long, long time. I don't recall any pet names. I do know that they all had the hardest time telling Stacy and me apart. She is just 11 months older than I am. They would say, "Now...let me see...which one are you?"
We have a family that worships with us that is going through so much right now. The father, Jeff Long has cancer and is in pain right now. He has been fighting this for about a yr. and a half. He has 3 children, the youngest is about 9 yrs. old. It is a heartbreaking situation. Please pray that he can go into remission and that they can all have the strength to deal with this. We have known this family for about 19 yrs. Jeff was baptized not too long ago. His wife Sena and his children have always been such encouragers in the church. ( the other 2 children are older).
I am so amazed at how many families are facing these tough situations these days. It used to be that you heard of "one here, one there," but now, it seems to be an epidemic. The Longs are in my thoughts and prayers.
It was nice to meet you through here, I hear you are very much enjoying William. I was sorry to hear about Jeff. The Long family continues to be in my prayers.
Thank you. Sorry about the Long family's loss. God tells us to rejoice when one goes out of this world. We know God's faithful children are no longer suffering. I hope his family take strength in that knowledge.
