We've almost been on summer break for a month!
I can't believe it! So much has been going on. House chores, work, church, golf, FC papers and a million others things have kept me preoccupied.
I can get a bit frustrated when I've been on-the-go all day, but an article in Real Simple magazine changed my attitude concerning a busy day. The article featured a few readers' tips about getting the kids involved with cleaning/organizing the house. One reader's advice was that whenever you get flustered about the many messes and such around your house, stop what you're doing and thank God for each mess. That's stuck with me.
I'll be headed to Jamaica in four weeks and until then, my time will be occupied by (the things listed above) and the upcoming lecturship with Berry Kerchiville. I'm excited about that!
Well let me make you more busy this weekend--LOL. settle down when we come. I am so excited that you are coming to FC. You know you will enjoy being around all of us down here. Goin to VBS this morn. need to get her up. i would be thanking GOD about every single minute with the messes i have.
Yeah, we always had fun! Girl! You didn't tell me you were going to Jamaica! Have a great time :) The good thing about busy days is knowing theres bound to be a day off somewhere along the line :) My theory on houswork is, we will be doing it until we die and that is the role God has given to us as women so we might as well be happy about it and not stress too much.
things are going well here. We are in the middle of VBS so that is keeping us busy. We are also a little busy with plans for our new arrivals. You and Caitlin can certainly have a baby each when you are down here! When can you come by the way. You are obviously busy but I would love to see you!!!
That is such a great thing to do, I started doing that years ago after I heard a lesson a sister in Christ gave saying the same thing, as you wash dishes thank Him that you had food to eat, etc. - I never forgot it and still do it today!
I bet you will have so much fun! Make sure and take lots of pictures :-) hey, what are you doing in the next two weeks. You and Caitlin want to get together to do something with me and Courtney?
This past week marked my final days as a high school student. The events which took place last week kept my mind occupied with many doubts, prayers, and much more. We've made it through the storm, but have a long ways to go.
I can never perfect Mom's fried chicken, chocolate chip cookies, nor sow (sp?) quite as well as she did. And I will never be able to say those 'Mama-perfect' words as Caitlin, Hannah, Amanda, and myself prepare for graduations, weddings, and babies. But that's simply ok. The thought of Mom at an awesome peace has not yet fully set in, nor will for quite some time.
If she were to read this blog, Mom would quite bluntly say, 'Stop crying over me.' That's Mom. We all know that.
-I discovered that my mom was my hero when...
i was three. One Sunday afternoon, Caitlin and I found some beads. Mom and Dad were napping, I guess they figured two little mischevious girls would be doing the same. I accepted a dare and stuck one up my nose. Mom stayed home that night to get the bead out of my nose with a baby booger sucker. I distinctly remember the pain and her patience.
-I realized my mom was pretty cool when..
i heard her singing 'Don't You Wish Your Girlfriend was Hot Like Me?'. Ok, not really,..although she did know the lyrics. Looking back, I hate that I was ashamed of her beebopping around and singing as she drove us around to school, work, and such. Bottom line: no matter how foolish you might think your parents look, let them sing and dance. It makes them happy. You will miss it one day.
-I realzied my mom was (really) always right when..
she knew something was going to happen, told me it was going to happen, I didn't believe her, and it happend. Parents are always right. On Mother's Day of '92, I learned that lesson. Dad had to work that morning, so it was just Mom, Caitlin and myself. As Mom got ready for church, Caitlin and I jumped and pushed each other around on their bed. I flew back on the nightstand..and landed in the ER. I got a few stitches. What an experience.
Emily you are a remarkable woman and your Mom would be so proud of how you have handled such a difficult time with lovely words about her. I love you all and am praying for you all
I am a friend of Tina's she has kept me updated on your what you have been going through. Your post is beautiful. Your Mom must be so happy with you girls. ( And you are right mom's are cool when we change or botch song lyrics.)
Emily, it's Beth Murphree. I just now saw your post about your Mom. It made me cry. You couldn't have made a better tribute from a daughter. I love you and am always here for you. You know you can call me any time of day or night. I think you have handled your Mom's death beautifully. She would be more than proud of you. I am sure she watches you and your sisters with total joy. You took such good care of her and made me proud to be there with your family. Love you!
Hey sweet sister! Congratulations to you & Caitlyn on your graduation, and for carrying on despite such overwhelming sorrow. Your mother's lasting greatest legacy will always be the wonderful women that you and your sisters are; you said some pretty wonderful things up there. I'm sorry that we couldn't make it to the service as we were camped out in not-so-beautiful Crawfordville, GA; we continue, however, to send up prayers for y'all and your dad. I love you.
HEY!!! Aunt Jan told me that you were coming to FC!! I am so excited!!! She said she'll give you my number so we can catch up!! I hope everything is going ok! Talk to you later!
Hi Emily, I've never met you before, but I know Jimmy and Mary Ann Roberts and the Jonas family as well. Lauren was my roommate in Auburn while she was here. The post you've written in beautiful. I wish I could have known your mother. I have heard so many wonderful things about her and what an amazing person she was. I know you guys are being overwhelmed with love and support from your friends and family, let that be your strength. and I hope you find comfort in knowing that your mother is in Heaven watching over you and your sisters! May God bless you all. Good luck at FC! --erica seymore
I was looking through some of Courtney's old pictures the other day and there were some good ones of all those times we stayed in Ms.Paula's apartment.
Hey! How is everything going?? When are you done with school. So i was wandering if you had a roomate for FC next year, and if you do who. Let me know when you can! TTYL!
is here.
my final break in my high school career.
How bitter sweet?..not really. I'll be over that the day after gradutaion.
School is stinkety. Yes, stinkety.
but I get to breathe for awhile..with homework.
So the meeting's coming up and I'm stoked :)
We're not going anywhere for the break. I haven't been outa Ga since November. I'm going to go Mad. But the meeting will be great.
Jeremy and I saw Horton Hears a Who this evening. We were surrounded by tons of giggling children and content parents. I liked it alot. The theme was great and the characters and animation were great as well :)
So, what's new with ya'll? I haven't been on here in quite some time.
Hey girlie, thanks for the info on Chick fil a, we'll keep in on our list if the "rat" gig doesn't pan out! I've been dying to see that movie- it looks so cute! I remember watching as a cartoon when I was a kid. Hope you have a great, relaxing spring break!
Three more months and what matters (correction, what kids think matters) in their high school career will forever more be NOTHING!) I can't wait. But it's back to the bottem of the totem pole for us.
Seems everybody's got a bit of a cold. I walked into work Saturday morning and realized that. Are their vivid memories of something (food, toys, etc) from your childhood that you despised so much? My most despised moments are of those when tusson was forced down my throat. To this day, I hate taking it. But my cold seemed to be going no where, so I did-in fact-(Mom, be proud) take tusson. I slept like a baby for two hours this afternoon. Kudos to me and my childhood stubbornness (sp).
This past Wednesday, Mum and I sat in the post office for about two hours so that I could apply for my passport. This July, I am going on a mission trip with David Tant and a few other people to Jamaica. I'm already kinda nervous, but so excited. I couldn't believe how much passports were!!
In my AP Lit class, we are currently reading Invisible Man, by Ralph Ellison. When I read, I see color off pages that is like an emotion. This book is gray and the emotion is either that of boredom or sleepiness.
So..my question: What was your favorite book and what was your most hated book in high school/college?
Wow, I'm having to think way back to remember the stuff I read in high school and college. My favorite was probably "A Tale of Two Cities". Although Dickens can go on quite a bit, and the pathos can get a bit thick at times, I enjoyed that one. I wasn't too big of a fan of "Henry IV". I like Shakespeare's stuff overall, but some of the historical stuff can take a while to wade through.
As for stuff I've read more recently, I really liked "The Time Traveler's Wife", but I'm NOT a fan of "Heart of Darkness".
i can't take credit for the meez, got it from angela. My fave right now: Thud! by Terry Pratchett, least fave in high school, Crime and Punishment. We had to sit through an entire class just on how to pronounce the names. Fave in high school, Cather in the Rye, although an honest answer it is a bit embarrassing because of all the terrible language in it. :-\
oops, meez was from amyjane. and now comes to mind some William Faulkner novel that I couldn't wait to be through with...think it was A Light In August or something.
It was sad, and I didn't know anything about American Literature (never having a happy ending) so I was really surprised. I think I had a learning disability and that was the first book that I HAD to read that actually held my interest throughout and wasn't a burden.
I did start reading historical novels on my own in jr. high and I also read some biographies before I took AmLit.
My favorite book was probably Persuasion or Jane Eyre. My least favorite, well it wasn't really in high school, it was in 7th grade, but it was Uncle Tom's Cabin...GAG!
We met the H-K's when we were shopping for a border terrier eight years ago. We took a quiz that would match you up with the type of dog best suits your family's personality, and BT was the winner. We contacted someone with a website, and while they didn't have any puppies, they gave me Linda's email address. She just happened to have a dog, Belle, about to give birth and the first three puppies were claimed. Belle had 4 puppies the very next day! We've been in touch by email and have made a few visits since then. We got Rusty there, too. He's one of Belle's.
Obviously, Mennonites aren't as strict as Amish and they have all the modern conveniences, although this family almost lives off the grid. Michael and I can tell you more about that sometime.
You would not be able to live with an Amish family for a week. They are not accepting of outsiders. Joe works for the county/state in a carpentry workshop for the mentally retarded. Most are Amish people who are products of inbreeding. No kidding. I remember Linda telling me about an Amish friend of hers who she went to visit after she had a baby. His ears were not in the usual places on his head. Poor little guy.
I stopped Cole and Reese yesterday while we were getting our picture taken (I think we broke the camera about 4 times) and asked them if they'd like to have their picture taken with us and be part of our family. Reese thought we were crazy, but Cole was considering it...I won't tell Danielle! ;) Very cute, as usual!
You are passionate about so many things, is there a need you see that could be filled with a non-profit? Think about the things that are most important to you and how you could make them better. I'd be glad to talk to you about it.
You seem have the passion to do something great to help other people.
