Quantum of Solace was fantastic. Dad and I went to the midnight showing Thursday night/Friday morning. It was, just, wow. So good. The hype may wear off later for me (entirely possible) but this is my new favorite Bond movie (previous fave- Goldeneye), and Daniel Craig is now my new favorite Bond (previous fave- Timothy Dalton).
I'm gonna hafta go see this at least two more times while it's in the theatre!
Also, Dad and I consulted the dictionaries, and according to m-w.com, "sōl'-ace" is an acceptable pronunciation. This makes more sense to my mind what with words like sonar, solar, sober, etc.

AAAAAAAAAAAAA!
I just got off the phone with the lady who did my first interview and they offered me a job at Amegy Bank! Not only did they offer me a job, but they offered me a wage that was 17% higher than what I had asked for! I am totally and utterly floored and amazed. I knew that I interviewed very well, but that well? I can only say, when God blesses us, He blesses us well! His providence has been working in my life for the last few months in ways that I could not foresee at the end of July when I quit Petco and left Kansas. I am speechless.
Tomorrow I go in for a personality assessment. Next week, or perhaps later this week, I'll have a drug test. My first day will be Monday the 24th of November.
I'm so excited I could burst.

UPDATE:
For those who missed it, I will be a Personal Banker with Amegy. My official title will be "Associate Personal Banker (floater)." I will be (potentially) working at all of the Amegy branches in the Southeast Houston Division: Friendswood, Webster, Clearlake, Texas City, League City, and Dickinson. Dickinson is the "home" branch, so I'll be based there (which is great, because it's five minutes from the house) and fill in as needed at the other banks, either as a teller or personal banker or both, again, as needed. I was talking to my new boss about the position and she told me that they recruit from the floaters first when permanently located (non-floating) positions open up. The position I have is very much a "get your foot in the door" type position. I don't expect to be a floater very long.
Also in the way of updates, I have a drug screen/fingerprinting scheduled tomorrow at 11am in downtown Houston, followed by a personality assessment at 2pm at the same place I first interviewed. I've never had a drug screen before, and the most I've ever done with fingerprinting is to put a thumbprint on a check. So, this'll be interesting, lol. |

I made dinner tonight for everyone; I made homemade tacos (I bought fresh corn tortillas and then skillet-fried them into taco shape) and homemade salsa. I'm placing the salsa recipe on here because I want to know how to make it again... I had a basic recipe to go off of, but I improvised heavily. So here it is:
Everything is going to be put into a food processor, so cut your vegetables up just enough so that you can stir/mix the vegetables up in a mixing bowl, then scoop into your food processor.
2 fresh regular red tomatoes
2 roma tomatoes
2 cloves of garlic
3 green onions (I thought this would ruin the salsa, but mom vetoed me and it came out pretty good)
1/4 cup of regular onion (I also didn't want this in my salsa but mom threw it in, and it was ok)
NOTE: I don't like my salsa super onion-y, I just put enough in to give a little taste. If you like a lot of onion, feel free to put up to an entire onion in your salsa.
1/4 cup of fresh cilantro
1 tsp of olive oil
1 tbsp of lime juice
3 jalepeño peppers
2 serrano peppers
Basically I just cut everything up, threw it into a bowl, stirred it all up, then threw it in the food processor. You can make it as chunky or thin as you want. I made mine into a puree (see pic below). You can then salt and pepper it to taste, which for me, means no salt and no pepper. Too many times I have had salsa that is over seasoned; the salt off of a tortilla chip or from seasoned taco meat or whatever is plenty for me. I like to be able to taste the vegetables, especially the sweetness of the tomatoes.
And this is a pretty sweet salsa, despite the serranos. I tasted some of the serranos straight when I was cutting them up and they are reasonably hot, but with so much other stuff in here, they don't provide much fire. However, Mom said my salsa was a medium-mild (borderline), although I felt it was very mild. Next time I'm going to put some cayenne or maybe even habeñero in it. I love the sweetness of this salsa but it needs some serious HEAT! :)
My interview went very well on Wednesday; I have a 2nd interview with the person who will be my boss on Monday morning, right here in Dickinson. The huge building I went to on Wednesday was very impressive. I think it was 26 floors? Something like that.
I've updated my galleries for the last 6 weeks or so. Check out the gallery named "Oct-Nov 2008" for some pics I've taken since I've been in Texas. All of them I took with my phone, so they aren't the greatest, but they work.
Here are some pictures of supper tonight; click on them for bigger pics.

We are going to be hearing "President Elect" Obama a lot for the next 3 months. I've always found that phrase to be really annoying.
