The other day I was standing outside of Sav-a-Lot(a discount grocery store) with my boys. I will admit, SHAMEFULLY, that I would have been too proud to walk into a store like that, much less shop there, not too very long ago. I AM a little obsessed with eating healthy foods and it IS a little harder find the kinds of foods I like to feed my family in a discount food store. But that wasn't the reason I didn't want to go in there. It was a pride issue. Anyway, the car next to us was loading up their purchases. They had a lot of stuff to load up. My son Sean leaned in and said; "LOOK at all of that food. They must be RICH!".
That was a couple of weeks ago, at least, and I am still chewing on that.
Maybe it will give you something to chew on too...
I have went in there several times and unfortunately have been dissapointed every time, went to Aldi the other day too and it was not going to save me any money. Never the less, I go to the flee market every weekend to get fruits and veggies and would go to Hillsborough market too and just don't get to it. I use coupons and save a pretty penny using those. All those being said there was a day when I would not of thought of using a coupon or ONLY going to Publix(which I still do mostly) but, I am a ashamed that I have done that in the past too, Lydia will ask when she sees something she wants in the store "Do we have a coupon for this?" LOL. Today's day and time is going to have us looking for as many discounts or cuts we can find. I was thinking about doing a co-op again. I am going to visit that idea again and talk to the Colletts that used to do it. Maybe you and I should plan after the first of the year to go to baby boomerang--hopefully good stuff after the holidays, and just a tid bit of info Robin and I shop on New years day---YOU WOULD NOT BELIEVE THE DEALS IN THE DEPT. STORES. I bought Lydia's holiday dress last year for this year reg. 60.00 and i got for 15. plus the purse for 3.00. I know this is a long post sorry.
well...will you be around this weekend for turkey day? i have more time off during semi-normal waking hours i could swing by....i wouldn't stay long though if i'm still sick.
Whew, so glad! No, that was not the damper, that was the child falling out of the tree. Glad everyone is fine and thanks for coming over, I always say, the more the merrier.
Dear Mommy,
I love you. Thank you for our room. Thank you for our clothes. Thank you for our food. And thank you for our house.(spelling errors corrected)
He had all of the kids in his class sign it.
...all of the kids, and the teacher.
I still have days that I look like a teenager, and those are the days that I rethink the "natural" look. BUT, they are who I am and they would be on my face with or without makeup, so I just go with it and generally forget they are there until I look in the mirror. I think that your skin looks great, and that "natural" would look great for you. :)
I'll have to double check for you, but I'm fairly certain you meet us there. Now, you can always come to the school and follow us, but chaperones do not ride the bus. That's why it was cheaper for you to come that Morgan. Morgan was charged a bus fee.
And, I got your note on the permission slip. You can stay at the park thing as long as you want. Just sign in and out at the office so you get credit for it. And as far as food, you can bring whatever you want. You can bring a traditional Thanksgiving dish or you could bring snack food. Whatever you're feeling like bringing works for us. And for the field trip Friday, you will definitely want to come to the school and sign in before the field trip so that you get volunteer hours.
How thoughtful! that will be something you teasure for a life time--I would love to see it with the spelling that he chose, I read some of my things from school the other day and it is pretty comical--I just don't understand the way I wrote the words sounded and looked just like the word--but, it was not right. spelling is over rated--LOL
I get mine at nordstrum but i have bought it on ebay. I have some in my purse and I will let ya smell it and try it if you want. I LOVE IT. it is by philosophy. This what the bottle says--- pure grace is the clean smell of soap and water, the momorty of fresh air woven into a set of crisp, white, cotton sheets, the one white t-shirt that feels better then all the rest. www.philosophy.com they have others, next time I am down there I will see if I can get you samples.
Very sweet and all, but it almost sounds like a kid's prayer. Amen'd by the whole class, too. By the way, I'm dyin' over the new "Lilly time" quote up there.
Yes, I was packin' heat! I took a one day course on gun handling out at a friend's house. It was awesome! Now I'm trying to convince Tim to get me a .38 revolver for Christmas. He's not so sure. =-)
We are scheduled to leave the school at 9:30 tomorrow morning. And no, no one has finished my blocks. You're my only in class volunteer besides a grandmother that comes once a month.
Ahahahaha...your boys are so funny and fun to have next door. They came by this morning for a sec but Brian was just in his housecoat so they ran back. I asked Brian where they went and he said he told them they'd have to come back later, because he wasn't dressed. And I laughed...I can picture them running back home and saying "Mr. Brian's naked!"
and I had at least 25 people I know sign it. And I think Maybe at best, 2 or 3 of them had even ever talked to my mom. And the youngest of them was...17.
Yesterday I stayed home with Lilly and baby Aaron while David and the older boys went to church. They were both getting over being sick and probably o.k. to go, but we wanted to give them one more day out of the crowd. Anyway, I got lunch in the oven while they were gone. We wandered outside when it was about time for them to pull up. Not three minutes later, the car was parked in the driveway and three hungry men were rushing out of it. David gave me a big hug and smelled my hair in an exaggerated sort of way. He said; "You smell good." I thought he was talking about the tangerine scented shampoo I had used that morning. But, no, his next statement was; "You smell like LUNCH!" Nice. I mean, he seemed to enjoy the fact that I smelled like meat so maybe I shouldn't worry about it... David has always told me that 90% of the primping women do is dumb and really for other women anyway. That sets me free. He doesn't care that my hair isn't bright blonde anymore. Awesome. That saves me $75 per trip to the salon(which I don't go to very often anyway because fancy pants haircuts get made fun of too.). Excessive eyebrow plucking is right out. Manicures? Extra dumb. He thinks all of this teeth whitening is making people's teeth look weird too. He likes me to be as natural as I am willing to be. And, like I said, I have gotten on board with a lot of it. But, seriously. I do want to smell good. Not David good or I would douse myself in chicken stock before leaving the house every day. I want to smell good to the masses. And hopefully I do usually. Then again, I DO cook a lot... Great. Maybe I smell like beef all of the time anyway even though I don't want to. I don't like where this post is going and I have no idea how to turn it around. I think it is time to jump ship. I'm sure I've given you some great stuff to think about today. And, the next time you see me, if I smell like dinner, please keep it to yourself.
My hands always smell of garlic and onion. I use them in everything. It's good to know that guys don't notice alot of that cause these days I'm usually walking around with something in my hair or on my clothes that was put there by one of my children.
Jim does not think it's important for me to spend time fixing my hair and doing makeup, He prefers the natural look and I just don't get it, I have seen myself in the mirror without and it scares me to death. You know that verse in James where it talks about the man observing his natural face in the mirror and then forgets what he looks like? I am so shook up by the whole ordeal of seeing my natural face and then put on makeup so that I CAN forget the natural face.
When I worked at the coffee beanery I always smelled like coffee. When I make food pasta or other foods at home I can smell it in my hair and I don't wash it regularly (au natural, to a point?) and I'm afraid it lingers or smells nasty at work. But I appreciate that your husband appreciates the naturals in life.
That could be interesting. You look great eau natural--- I love to smell like my favorite perfume "grace" it is patterned after soap and water, I LOVE IT!!!! I used to work at the hospital and do pre op's and I would always know when the person I was doing tests on worked at the cigar factory--the smell was so pungent and did not smell to good. Working in the rest. business like I did, I did carry the rest. home with me by smelling like it and for some reason hair soaks up smells pretty strongly.
I am with the natural look up to a point. I dated a foreign exchamge student one year. She was from Germany. Let's just say it was a short relationship and that shaving is now a requirement.
I'm with the all natural. You can probably tell. Jason likes the fact that it doesn't take me hours to get ready to go somewhere and the fact that I don't spend a lot of money on makeup and hair stuff and the like. If it makes him happy, I'm happy. :) When I do wear makeup, it is very light...which is fine with me. I am who I am and that is how God made me. I'm happy with that.
absolutely not. They would pick up and bringto me every animal they could find - including ones that aare poisonous. I would need to teach a survival class to the wilderness first before letting the ray children loose upon it. ( jusr kidding of course.)
You sure you don't want to pack up your family, drive across Tampa in rush hour traffic, and grab a 30 min quick bite to eat at the fast food place in the airport lobby?
Yeah, I'm surprised I got anything done since that tends to happen to me too! But mom helped me stay focused this time. And I let her to a lot more than normal. She's a good one!
oh, you can just add our names if you want. that might be easier. I am ill (again) with the same head cold I had last week, so I probably won't be at church tonight to give you a card anyway. :)
This morning I watched footage of people all over the world cheering for Obama. I heard a reporter from London say that people everywhere are excited because the result of this election brings America CLOSER to the rest of the world. That made me uncomfortable.
I could not help but think of Israel demanding a king to be like the other nations around them. I know the situation isn't exactly the same, but I got a lesson out of that story. The more like the world the nation of Isreal became, the harder it was for them to serve God.
I know that America isn't the Church, but many of God's people live here. Our job is to shine as lights to the world and I believe that we are taking steps as a country that will make that more challenging in the days to come. It probably wont be too much harder initially. But I believe that little by little this country is growing more hostile towards people of faith. My prayer for us is that we will stay strong and not fall to the temptation to "fit in" as the children of Israel did.
We have lost the battle for the day(not that having McCain in office would have been a "win" per se)- The next leader of our country is a man who is pro-choice and backs the gay agenda to a certain extent. I think there are some other- more subtle- things that he stands for that will cause damage too. (But, I won't go there today.) The war is not over yet though. And we know who will win that war. Let's make sure we are on His side.

I just read Eddie Legg's(sure hope I spelled that right) blog, and I highly recommend it. -"ed" on my friends list(I don't know how to link.) He saw the same thing I did, yet he saw a great opportunity there. While we are striving to stay pure ourselves we need to be sowing the seed with LOVE. It is inspiring.:)
___________
I'm spending way too much time on pleo today...
Anyway, I just read Kennon's blog. I followed a link to his page... A LOT to chew on there. He offers a very different perspective on some things, especially the "world" view of Obama. Interesting. One thing I know for sure after reading that entry- I lead a very small, protected life. I find it interesting that the two posts this morning that have challenged me to REALLY think, are from people who do not live in America.
___________
From someone else's blog(who I don't know at all. Not even a little bit:): Let's not forget to pray for Obama too.
__________
Terry Francis does an excellent job reminding us that God is in control. I may have left the wrong impression saying that the battle of the day was "lost". God places leaders where he chooses to suit His purposes. And we are to show them respect.
__________
If you are actually going to any of these blogs I am recommending... Here's another one(and it's not just because I am partial). the_ghost has some very insightful comments on a variety of things related to this election.:)
__________
missysnapp made a comment on ed's blog about all of the fear she has seen today... She suggested that the cause may be that many of us have put too much faith in worldly leaders and not enough in God. Thought provoking. Go read that one too.
__________
You gotta go back and read what terryfrancis said today! GOOD STUFF. I'll tell you one thing I am thankful for today: people who inspire me to look at things in new and different ways! I have been so encouraged by the words of so many in these last few days!!!
I read an article at Glenn Colletts house. It reminded the reader that the last time liberals ran the country was when Carter was in office. Gas shortages, terrorist kidnappings, etc... I believe that Obama will push the liberal agenda too far. While I am not thrilled to see him in office, from a political standpoint it is possible he will do the liberals more damage than good in the long run.
Second thought (and that is a lot for one day) . Christians tend to be very meek and mild. That makes us easy to walk over. How ofte do you see a conservative christian waving a banner, espousing our believes? I will venture to say almost never. How many times have you seen a liberal do it. I sometimes think that we should be a little more aggfessive with our beliefs and stances.
I was very surprised by the amount of fireworks and about 200 or so ppl standing on the corner of 56th and busch cheering and such at 12 last night, I have NEVER seen that for any of the other elections.
And you are right, the thing is is that I bet some that voted if you ask why or what they stand on with him they could not answer. I do pray for him tho I am not so sure I would want to take over a country in such peril. But the plus side is that I might not have a mortgage or gas in my car--did you see that clip? LOL man, I knew I should of bought a more expensive place.
thanks for the shoutout Erin! I have difficulty getting too worried about what governments do. God's people have often flourished when the government wasn't very friendly towards Christ. I do think many Americans have a very narrow view of the world, it has been a wonderful experience to live in another culture! I would strongly encourage you and David to try it.
One of the few 'bright spots' I have heard about this whole ungodly situation is that many people will have less as the government taketh away (I doubt they'll give much of it to others, I think they'll keep it for their own government growth) that those with less will turn to God as they seek why and how their lives have changed so much. I pray that is true.
I most always have dark chocolate stored away in my kitchen. It is my own little indulgence. I eat it EVERY day. My husband has always ignored it- until yesterday. He told me that he had gotten into my stash and tried some. He said it was... what was the word? disgusting?
On one hand, I am pleased. I don't have to fight for my fair share. It is ALL mine.
On the other hand, what does it say about him? I haven't gotten that all figured out yet, but I'm sure it isn't good.
OK to defens david- I am not all that fond of dark chocolate. But I will eat it. I also do not like baseball- I will watch the rays this week because of the novelty of it. As for Salisbury steak -well I really like the steaks at Ryans. I could order them and actually watvh the guy cook them. Guaranteed meeium rare. So David isn't all that strange unless you've seen him towed behind an suv on his scooter with the bugeyed goggles on. Then he is certifiably wierd.
^siding with his LAME argument huh? The tell-tale sign of addiction is whether or not you can do without something that you normally consume on a regular basis.
I am not a dark chocolate lover, I like the milk chocolate. I am fine with semi sweet, but the really dark stuff, it's like trying to drink coffee without all the suger and cream.
I really like to roast them with carrots, along with a roast. This week, I made them along side a pork roast. I also found a really yummy looking recipe for this coming month involving bacon and maple syrup....mmmmmm....
Quina is a person on campus who decided with the "Campus Crusades" that instead of just going around telling people they agree with Jesus, they'd catch people's interest with shirts and buttons and stuff that says, "I agree with Quina" and basically their pamphlets have a testimony and how Quina believes in Jesus, and Quina talked to the students outside of Cooper Hall today. Sophomore Communications major student with a fro. ha.
For the 2 year old class, last quarter they sent home a booklet on the Life of Jesus. Could you have Lilly bring that Sunday, I want to keep them there and work on them. Also, my first lesson is the Lord's Supper, if you family wants to help her practice by doing a pretend version that would be great. We will do the juice and bread Sunday with them.
Hi! If you get an opportunity to come in and volunteer soon, I have a job for you! Part of the Bank Street program is block play and well...they finally got us our blocks. But, they want us to write our room number on every block. Ugh. So, if you are able to get away sometime, let me know. I only have you and one grandmother that come to the classroom to volunteer. Just let me know! Thanks!
This morning I asked Morgan if his brother and sister were feeling any better and he said, "what? they're not sick." I said, "Well, your mom said Lilly had a pretty bad cold." He said, "Oh."
