These are the three biggest things that people say couples argue about. Here is my simple solution for both husbands and wives:
Husbands first.
1) Money - make enough of it to provide for your family's needs
2) Sex - be content with less sex than you would like in an ideal world
3) Kids - Throw down the gauntlet and be a man!! Love and cherish your children, but don't ever hesitate to give them strong discipline when they need it (and they will need it!... see Proverbs 22:15); your children will learn to respect authority by learning to respect YOU!
Now wives.
1) Money - be content spending less money than your husband makes. PERIOD.
2) Sex - have sex more often than you would like in an ideal world.
3) Kids - You are with your children more than anyone else so it is vital for you to consistently train and discipline them. Your discipline will be less strong than the husbands but should be more frequent since you're around them more.
This is my general, practical advice on dealing with the BIG 3 in marriage. It seemed worth coming out of a long pleonast hiatus to post this. I hope it helps.
do i have a deadline? dude if you're starting a book club i'm totally in. also when are you planning on kicking that political career in gear, cause yeah, we need you.
Vincent Crummles: "They came to see that family need not be defined merely as those with whom they share their blood, but as those for whom they would give their blood."
Nicholas Nickleby: "Weakness is tiring, but strength is exhausting."
Wackford Squeers: "Subdue your appetites, and you've conquered human nature."
Smike: "He is my only friend. I would lay down my life to help him."
Nicholas Nickleby: "You have only to hint at a wish, and I would hazard my life to gratify it."
Fanny Squeers: Dear Mr. Knuckleboy, sir, my pa requests me to write to you. The doctor's considering it doubtful whether he will ever recover the use of his legs, which prevents his holding a pen.
Hey Harris, We are doing fine here in Glasgow,Ky. WE miss all of you all at Cahaba Heights and wish we could of stayed. Maybe in a few yrs we will be able to move back. Sheewoo... it has been a long time since I've updated. Deepest apologies to concerned readers.
I've been sick for the past couple days so I did a little research on phlegm earlier today. Most of my coughs are dry (unproductive) but occasionally I've seen some stuff that looks like this. Yumm-O!
Lots has been going on here. Most notably is the addition of Olivia Ruth. Here's a pic my bro pushed to the web:
We'll get some more pix up soon.
One trick that I've been using to help Oliva stay awake when she is drinking her bottle is to flex my bicep several times as she tries to drift off to sleep. With her head resting in my elbow joint this provides a gentle but firm stimuli that it is time to eat; this is particularly effective with the 1 AM feedings. I'd bet it would work for the 4 AM feedings too, but I haven't been present for one of those yet. BTW... parents can use this trick free of charge. Also note that you don't need a BIG bicep for this to work as mine have atrophied significantly since "the good ole days"!
Another update is is the addition of Tbird to "Nimble Labs". It is really nice having him around... I've been flying solo for the past year and 1/2 working for various remote clients, so it is nice to have a co-worker in the office. As an aside it helps a lot that he's my twin brother; I think most people would only last a day or two in this kind of situation (rigorous learning requirement that needs to happen relatively soon, and no prevous experience with the subject matter!... you GOTTA love that he's doing it though!)
Here is a final pic of my girls:
I must say that I've been blessed far beyond anything I deserve with this family. Most notably is having Cheryl for a wife. The effort she exerts in taking care of the girls is absolutely amazing. Having her for a wife is without a doubt the greatest blessing God has given me this side of eternity. For me the path from being single to getting married was a long journey due to my own idosyncrancies, but now I tell Cheryl fairly regularly that I'd marry her every day of my life if that made any sense.... and the beautiful thing is... I REALLY MEAN IT!
Whoa...your name was actually lit up! Hey, congratulations on your beautiful new baby girl! And that was the sweetest post about Cheryl! Just in time for Valentine's Day. :) I'll look forward to reading your post next year...
i cant understand what compelled me to click on "this" why did i do it? i knew it was giong to be nasty, and i knew it would be instantly regretted. but i did it anyway.
Hey, I've missed you! Glad you posted and glad things are going so well with you and your girls. Congratulations on the new little one. We are actually going to have a little girl in June. Sure will be different after having 2 boys! Anyway- you always make me laugh, Harris. Lots of great memories of the "Forest Hills" days!
i'm eating some of your no sauce spaghetti and meatballs right now! WOW! super yumm-O!!!!! the basil, the garlique. simply amazing. with meatballs like these, sauce it purely optional!
I had a chat with the man today via email to see if he'd allow pleonast users to embed flash movies into our entries. He liked the idea and promptly added support for this on the pleonast server (this is the beauty of web-based software... instant updates and seamless upgrades). I had originally suggested that he make this a feature only available to gold members, but he graciously turned on this feature for any and all users.
The biggest ramification of this feature?? YOU CAN NOW EMBED YOUTUBE VIDEOS INTO PLEONAST!! Sweet!!! Therefore, I graciously give you...
Hey Harris, This is Holly Back Kelley from FC I use to hang with Shaun Morris. Glad to see you are doing well and have a nice family. I think the last time I saw you was a couple yrs back with Gerry Sandusky in Madison, In of course i think it was you it might have been Todd.
it was great to see you this week bro! As you were talking about your occupational adventures, I was reminded that you were voted "Most Likely to Succeed" at King High School. take care bro. I love you man.
dude, I just realized who this was - like after I replied to the message and all. I was so in a daze that I thought it was someone else. How'd you find me? How are ya'll doing up in B'Ham?
Dude Harris I miss you so Much!! Katrina and I were just talking about you and Cheryl last night!! We were talking about couples that just belong together! Anyway I miss you!
Tbird kicked off a book club last week; apparently it was somewhat inspired by Colton who will hopefully make it to the second meeting tonight.
The book we are reading through is The Kingdom That Turned the World Upside Down. If anyone out there is interested in joining us remotely, pick up a copy of the book and START READING. I'll try to post our study group notes here and you can add/disagree etc. in the comments.
Tonight we'll actually begin discussing the book. Here are a couple instructive pix on what we "discussed" during our first meeting...
Just like Fight Club, Book Club has a couple rules:
1) NO POSERS! You have to read to be a part of this whether local or remote.
2) If you join us in person be sure to get a drink before The Drink Monster gets reved up.
Lastly we are currently looking for a name for the Book Club. Please comment below if you have a good idea. Extra consideration will be given to names with the word "Society" in them as it makes us sound more legit (which we're not, but at least we can pretend).
Harris! I should be around on Friday and on Sunday. Will you have time to stop and scarf some coffee or something? It'd be great to meet up coming or going. You still got my number?
well well well....guess who? dude!!! what has been happening? i seem to remember a summer standing on a corner with you and digging swimming pools...ahh the old days. hows life bro?
h-bomb, talking on the phone while in the john was encouraged at c-dorm. those were the days! thats a great book you're reading. same author as "will the real heretic stand up" (bercot) highly recommended! perhaps if we talked more about the kingdom of heaven, we wouldnt hold on so tightly to our earthly citizenship
