From the mouths of babes... 12-18-08 09:56am CST
I love when one of the kids says something that I remember and can later blog about it.

This morning on the way to school the following conversation took place:

Caleb: Mom, in 2 days I'll be off from school for 2 whole weeks!

Me: Yes, and Daddy will be off from work most of that time too!

Caleb: (with much enthusiasm) Alright! So Daddy will not have to work for 2 weeks and I don't have to do schoolwork for 2 weeks. But Mom, you still have to clean.

Sigh.....yes, that's right. Cleaning is never ending. Oh wait, being a Mom is never ending too, and housework.....but you wanna know a secret just between us, (between me and who ever reads, and Tim knows this too by the way, so really it's no secret at all)? I probably won't do much cleaning during those 2 weeks with exception to keeping dishes clean and clothes washed and dried. ;) Hey! what? Mom's need a break too, ya know!
marieblol thats great that he said that. some how when Daniel is home I don't tend to get much cleaning done either. In fact Monday's are my put the house BACK together after the weekend. :-D
guygirlYour kids say some really cute stuff.
paulakbeachgirlThat is my plan too Holly...not much cleaning for the exception of laundry and kitchen, so I am trying to get it done today!
krisMy favorite quote from the wedding and mouth you one of your babes "I want to go on a date here!" ~ Ashlyn

Weddings 12-10-08 09:37am CST
I love weddings. You can feel a million emotions while witnessing one. Tears of joy for finally finding the person they want to spend the rest of their life with. Tears of sadness - of a loved one moving on with their life and starting a new chapter. Laughter - especially when the bride and/or groom have great senses of humor. Soberness for the seriousness of the vow 2 people are making.

We had the joy and pleasure of watching our cousin Bryan vow his life to Stacy's last weekend. It was a beautiful wedding. Stacy's dress was absolutely amazing! I loved the detail on it - very antique looking yet very fashionable! Bryan of course was a stud - as most of you know. lol

The kiss was awesome! Not many people really go all in with the "wedding kiss" but they sure didn't hold back! lol

The handcuffs after the kiss was hilarious! You can always count on Bryan for laughter!

It was also FREEZING!!!!! An outdoor wedding, on the water, in December......hum......yeah, it was cold. I think the high that day was only 49 and the minute the wedding started the wind picked up. I needed an electric blanket and my poor kids left their coats in the car - by their own decision.

The "parting by boat" at the end was very romantic - and I can imagine even colder for poor Stacy.

I enjoyed so much seeing old friends. It's sad how a lot of the time we only see friends of old during weddings and funerals.

Who I miss most? Kristin Thompson. I love that girl! Can I ever convince you to move back closer to AL???? :)

Marriage can truly be like heaven on earth. We have to work to make it that way though. So, for those of us who are married, don't ever let a day go by that you aren't working on your marriage, even in the "good times".

Congrats again to Bryan and Stacy!
loveofjebsThanks Holly for describing it so well. DeDe sent me pictures and I was so glad to get to see it all. I agree about the dress, it's probably one of the most stunning I've ever seen.
bama_amyjim and I met stacy when she worked at johns Hopkins a few summers ago. Small world that she married your cousin!
krisSo....We got in the car to leave, I was a little teary eyed, and explained to Aaron how much I STINKIN' miss you!!!! I LOVED spending some time with you! We could be easily convinced if a job opens and someone will buy our house. ;-) What a sweet post about the wedding. My sentiments exactly!
rmpmullinaxYea, about the kiss!!! Here's a bit of infor...at the rehersal the photographer ask me to talk with B & S about prolonging the kiss just a few seconds so that he could be sure to get a good picture. So first I went to Bryan and I told him what the photographer said, he quickly responded, "oh yea, we've go that all worked out", I said "what do you mean", he replied, "we know which one we are going to do", I said, "which what? you are going to do??, he said "which kiss!" I said you've practiced?, he said "oh yea, we know which one we are going to do". I quickly told him that was "WEIRD", and then you see which one they gave us, full kiss, no holding back. Thanks for that Bryan, glad you guys practiced!!
bama_amyyou will have a blast in nyc. there's so much to do. start planning now!

Soapbox time.... 12-04-08 08:17am CST
Recently we have had some friends, close friends and long time friends, whose Christian marriages have just fallen apart. Friends that have been married for 5+ years and some who've been married for 15+ years. Some have been scriptural and some have not. I can't express how much this saddens me and makes me mad at the same time. I don't understand how people forget the promises they made - to love and cherish one another in good times AND in bad times, in health AND in sickness. Why is it that so many people, Christians included, forget about the latter of those two promises? It's like they use that argument of "well I just can't handle this hard time" as a "get out of jail free card" or something and somehow justify in their own minds that it's even okay to separate for long periods of time because of it.

We have to protect our marriages against the attitude of the world - that it's okay to get out of a marriage if you just can't get along. I once heard a confidant and mentor of mine say to just erase the word "divorce" from your vocabulary. It's not even an option - ever. Now, I'm not saying that GOD doesn't give us that option from scriptures because I know HE does, however, I believe it should still be a very last resort even when it is scriptural - I mean, if you think about it from the standpoint of saving someone's soul.....

The same mentor of mine also told me once when I was engaged that if I ever felt like I was "falling out of love" with Tim that I'd better learn to love again. After all, that is what GOD commands of us as husbands and wives, to agape our spouse. Agape love is a choice we make. It's not the pitter patter of the heart. I don't think many young people getting married today realize that.

I want to see Christian marriages restored and to see people fighting for their relationships. We have to fight for our marriage against Satan before we hit a hard time in our marriage. We have to prepare for those hard times during the good times. It's so vital to the success of our marriages.

Some books come to mind in addition to daily reading in the scriptures. The first is one that Tim and I read early on in our marriage after seeing this guy at a seminar. It's called The 5 Love Languages by Gary Chapman. What a great book! Learning the love languages of your spouse will help stop the argument of "I just don't feel like they love me". When we learn how to love each other the way that person needs it - not the way we think they do, then we will save ourselves a lot of heartache.

The other book I haven't read yet, however it has been highly recommended by other Christians I know. It's called Every Man's Battle by Stephen Arterburn and Fred Stoeker. It's about winning the war on sexual temptation. I'm told that it's a good book to read by both men and women - especially when you are married. There are also other books in the series - Every Woman's Battle; Preparing your Son for Every Man's Battle; Preparing your Daughter for Every Woman's Battle; Every Young Man's Battle; Every Young Woman's Battle.

Other great books: Captivating - for women; and Wild at Heart for men.

I just want to see more Christians being more proactive to protect their marriages against Satan. How can we expect to win if we aren't preparing for the fight?
andthekingAnother good book that has been recommended to Jacob and me is "Love and Respect"
krisAmen Holly! I have also seen much of this it seems in the past year! We have recently had a marriage class for younger (20's through early 40's) couples. We 1st did the book "His Needs, Her Needs: Building an Affair Proof Marriage" and are now going through "Love Busters" by the same author. We have really tied it all to God's expectations. Aaron and I read "His Needs/Her Needs" before getting marriage, and it was really good!
heatheronthehillAMEN! Excellent thoughts Holly! I hope people read them and take them to heart!

Twilight night 11-21-08 09:48am CST
I could sing a little song today and do a little dance by expressing my excitement, but I won't. Tonight is girl's night out featuring Carrabba's Italian food (Chicken Marsala and garlic mashed potatos to be exact and that fablulous chocolate dessert of theirs) and the much anticipated book turned into movie, Twilight.

My girl friends and I are venturing out - taking advantage of a night out which comes so rarely, and going to see the movie back to back. Yep, that's right! 7:00pm and 10:00pm

Crazy, I know, but also fun! I haven't done that since I was a teenager! When I told Tim about it, I began by saying "Don't make fun of us, I don't want to hear it, but we are going to see the movie back to back." He just looked at me, smirked, and walked off. (that was the nicest thing he could do, you see, b/c he thinks the book hype and now movie hype is bogus and stupid).

Sigh.....6 hours to go.....

Oh and tomorrow, I'm having an hour massage with my friend at 10:00am. I've never had a massage before so I am WAY excited about that!!!!!
andthekinghave fun!

Give New Things a Try.... 11-18-08 09:40am CST
I had an idea (with the guidance of an acquaintance who had done it before) to host a Holiday Trunk Show featuring several home based businesses. My small idea (with only 2 others besides myself) grew into an event with 17 booths of different home based businesses.

I think over all it was a success. Several of my sellers made a great profit while others made very little profit. Some profited in a different way, by making new contacts or booking home shows or gathering business prospects. Everyone had a great time and seemed to have fun.

My final analysis is that I'm not sure I'll plan another event like this - it took a lot of work and money to put it together. I wasn't one of the sellers who had high financial profits from this event. In my business home shows are the most profitable avenue and so I'll continue with that. I am thankful though that I followed through with the idea, because you never know until you try something. And I might reconsider after I recover from this one. Most of the sellers asked for me to remember them if I do it again and I gathered about 6 or 7 additional sellers of home based businesses who I met after planning this event that I could add.

With the economy low, try this in your area if you have a home based business. Get out there and be active and give new things a try!

Go to my blogger page to see some pictures from the event.
krisGlad that you had fun! I have a friend who does the hosting of such an even, She has a bow making business. She always profits towards Christmas gifts because she is the host she gets the Host benefits of all the businesses' that come to her house for the show. She strictly does it for the Host benefits to help with Christmas shopping.
