Both are sick with Roto virus, and I'm sure Kacey will be posting soon with more details. For now, keep Cara in your prayers as she has become dehydrated and is being put into the hospital, as I type this, for an IV over the next 6-12 hours, possible overnight. Kacey is handling this wonderfully, but I'm sure it will all catch up with her eventually. I stayed with Paige, who is sick, but not dehydrated and now Keith is with her. I needed to get back to work. He happened to take this week off for some vacation days that he would lose if he didn't use them before the end of the year. So, it's really comforting to see how everything just "falls into place." I know His hand is over us and that is the reason. Thanks for prayers and we'll keep you posted!
UPDATE:
I ran by during my lunch time to see Cara and Kacey. I was able to hold Cara so Kacey could eat a bite of food, which looked really good, btw! Cara has the IV going now and it is bandaged up like a broken hand to keep her from pulling it out. The worst part, though, is that the lab needs to collect a stool sample and have placed a contraption inside of her and her diaper. She is NOT happy about this and was throwing fits like I've never seen before. Couldn't blame her, really.
Kacey called me at about 1:30 and said she had finally calmed down and was sleeping on the bed, but not in the crib. Whatever makes her happy! Hope Kacey can rest now some, too. The doctor did say it will be an overnight stay. More later. |

We are traditional and spend every other Thanksgiving holiday with alternate families. This year is our year to stay in SS and share a meal at Keith's parents' home. All I've been asked to bring is 2 pecan pies. I use my grandmother's recipe (she passed away a few years ago, but always made an awesome pecan pie!), but mine never thickens up and is too runny for me. My family steadfastly assures me it doesn't matter because the runny part is so good. Anyone out there have a reason why this happens to me? After Thanksgiving, I hope we come back home and begin decorating for Christmas. It's not allowed before Thanksgiving in our home, but I am always ready to get started.
Of course, we hope to shop on Friday but it would be fine with me if we had to postpone shopping and welcome baby Statler! Probably no one is more ready than Kacey.
Next year, we will travel to Seguin and spend the weekend with my family for Thanksgiving and continue the rotating of the holiday. I will miss my family, but they are coming up here in 3 weeks to spend Christmas with us! |

Keith and I love, love, love the dark Dove chocolate. I enjoy reading the little messages wrapped up in each of the mini-size bites of said candy. We keep a package in our bedroom and usually indulge before retiring for the evening. Keith rarely reads his because he doesn't want to put on his glasses to do so, but I ALWAYS read mine. I kept the following, as it struck an emotional chord with me at this time in my life:
"Life may change us, but we start and end with family."
I couldn't have said it better, and it came wrapped around my favorite food group! |

Our youngest, Brian, no longer lives with us, but comes by every evening after classes to have dinner with us. (Probably more for the home cooked food and $$$ savings than to see us, but that's okay!) As some of you know from previous posts and comments, Brian was our toughest one of the 3 to bring up and there were times near the end of his teens that we wondered just how successful he would turn out to be as an adult. Well, I wondered. Keith just kept saying, "He'll be okay, he's just taking the hard way to grow up." He is now 21, loves to be around family (a real change from those last 2 years of high school) does very well in school at the police academy, and more importantly, has developed a wonderful relationship with Keith and me. I say all of this to bring you up to speed as I share with you the typical conversation I heard tonight while preparing dinner.
He and Keith were just sitting at the dinner table and looking over pictures Keith had developed from the surveillance camera they use on the deer lease. I was "listening in quietly" while I cooked some of the venison chili. It was nice to hear them discuss the deer in the pictures, wonder about when they might shoot a particular buck next year, plan on the hunt they look forward to over Thanksgiving weekend, etc. To fully understand my emotions over this eavesdropping, I have to tell you there were times in the past that IF he was at home early in the evening, he wouldn't have chosen to spend quality time with us in the kitchen before food was even put on the table! This change did not happen overnight, or even just recently, but I can't really say when it came about. He now reminds me of the "little boy" who charmed us with his wit and affectionate humor many years ago. His true character has remained and it was never more evident than tonight as I listened to father and son share precious moments as adults together over that wonderful piece of furniture we call "the kitchen table."
For all you parents of teens who may be wondering if it's all going to be okay...I can tell you it will be, if you continue to believe in the spirit of the child and never give up. |

I may have mentioned previously that all of my roommates from A&M plus a couple of more gals planned a great weekend retreat for me to celebrate the end of chemo before my radiation was to begin. We met at the home of one of the gals in the Dallas area to eat, laugh, dine out, cry, laugh, hug, laugh, and pray. Did I mention that we laughed? It was truly wonderful medicine for me and it was good for them to see that I was recovering and getting back to my "old self." Many have done great things for me the past 6 months, but this weekend probably was the best. I have known these friends for 30 years and we have stayed in close contact through the years. Our children have grown up together so much that they are more like cousins than just friends. These are the type of friends that at times are closer than even family. I love them dearly!
Here are a few pictures from the weekend. As you can tell, we had a crazy time together!
The chicken in front of "Babes" where we had lunch in Sanger.

Susie and myself on a 3-legged horse!
Dining inside of "Babes" which was delicious! Dorthy couldn't come :(
They made me pose by the tractor. By this time I had already ridden the wild horse, so this was nothing!
And this is 4 of us brave girls in the hot tub. It was the funnest part of the trip and had the most laughs. The girls are Dorthy Torno (our hostess), Lois Coffman, myself, and Beth Roach.
Thanks for letting me share a great memory! |
