The sides all came out good...and my mother in law brought her delicious stuffing and pies.
And then, there was the chicken. The freakish chicken from Mars that apparently never cooks, but somehow becomes more raw the longer you heat it. It is a anomaly the world may never see again, and I suppose we were blessed to witness the only chicken of its kind on our Thanksgiving table before the species died out in my oven.
Fortunately, it made delicious gravy, so we could enjoy the taste of chicken on other foods, while eating only the tiny bits of cooked freak chicken that we could salvage from the carcass. :)
If I ever make Thanksgiving again, we are buying a honeybaked ham.
Or you could have Boston Market or Publix help you out! LOL. I knew it was early for you to think of a cradle but the bug in your ear is what I did, so when we go I will get it for you!!!!! I will get it actually this sat. so let me know, I can bring a piece at a time--LOL. Glad your day was good.
I made the tea this morning and the cranberry butter last night. But I need to get off my patootie and get cooking! There are many potatoes to cook, chickens to roast, and brussel sprouts that need little x's in the bottom.
I am so excited to be pregnant over the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays!
Especially lately, everything just tastes....better. More enjoyable, more rich, more generally nummy. And I since I am eating a little more than normal with no guilt, this may be the best holiday season for food ever!
Christmas gifts? Yes...I would like a pie....
So I'm going to the grocery store this morning to buy all the essentials for my first Thanksgiving meal at my house. I'm totally pumped, since I love to cook, BUT I am taking a little more help from the store this time than I would have envisioned on my first Thanksgiving at home. Store bought rolls, unless I get some big baking kick early in the week. Canned cranberry sauce, because I love it.
Fun foods this year: cranberry butter for the rolls, and baked artichoke hearts.
Yesterday Sean came running inside and said; "I can hear Roxie outside. Can we go over and ask if we can play with her?" I said yes, and of course they did. But then I noticed that they were back in our yard playing. I inquired about what you had said, and they informed me that you were going to Wisconsin...INSISTED that you were packing up as we were speaking. Later that evening the location changed to Miami. David, of course, called Brian later(about a different matter) and found out that you were at the Snapp's place. Wisconsin/Miami/Thonotosassa- same thing
Deep fried Turkey. We do it ourselves and it is good. I hate canned cranberry jello sauce stuff. But my favorite food -my mom's pumpkin roll and my sister's cherry cheesecake.
I love stuffing...and mashed potatoes...and gravy..and turkey...is there a Thanksgiving food dI don't like? I'm in charge of the Pumpkin pies this year at David's parents' house
I love sweet potatoes! That and my mom's homemade cranberry sauce. This year I get to bring some desserts and I am going to try a sweet potato pecan pie. :-)
Hot dogs and hamburgers. No kidding. Well, maybe not the favorite, but definitely the most memorable. When my mom's folks moved to FL from Illinois, the climate change impacted them so much that they decided to grill out on Thanksgiving, a weird tradition they occasionally re-indulged in every few years since.
YUMMMM! I love how the taste buds are heightened during pregnancy! I love cooking the meal too, I always do the Martha Stewart turkey. Probably um stuffing and cranberry with my turkey---YUMMMMM
Brian's folks and his sister are coming over. Sadly, it's just too far away to spend Thanksgiving with my folks when they are in Houston. BUT...it looks like they will be living in Atlanta next year, which is much more doable.
Cranberry butter sounds amazing!! And clever. And wonderfully Thanksgiving-ish.
Yay for cooking your own T-giving dinner. The last 2 years we have done T-giving at our house. This year we are going to a family member's house. I'm a little bit relieved at how little I have to stress over, but mostly disappointed. I LOVE all of the weeks of recipe collecting, modifying, shopping, cubing, dicing, prepping, etc. It's wonderful!!
I have been pretty irritable all day, due to a lovely head cold that worked it's way down into my chest last week, cleared up, and came back up to my head yesterday. BUT, two boxes of Nerds later and some good news have made things seem brighter.
It looks like the days that I have to work with graduate students may be numbered.
As most of you know, my experience here with graduate students has general tainted my feelings on the idea of all master's degrees in general. Right now, I never want to be a graduate student, work with grad students again, or even go near the graduate section of any college campus. It has been...trying...to say the least. :)
BUT, on December 8, we will welcome our brand spanking new graduate admissions advisor and I will be able to hand over the most unpleasant parts of my job to her.
Lucky girl.
This is something I've been hoping, begging, and pleading for for many months, and to know it's finally happening takes a huge load off!
I'm also leaving at 4 today, so that's cool too. Not as cool as the above, but at the moment (when my head feels like it will split open from sinus pressure), it's still pretty good too.
Sounds like some shower soothers would make you feel better. I'm sorry you are feeling crummy in this chilly weather too! But, work sounds good for ya!
I'm not sure the particular reason. More than likely, it is NURSING graduate students, who simply cannot believe that they might not know something. And surprisingly, they know very little about academia. Just because you are a nurse does not mean you know everything. And it also does not make you above the rules. :)
This is going to sound like I REALLY want you to send a card in the box...which is not the case. I don't care either way:) But, I am waiting a few more days to send it off- Sheila wanted to know if I could find any small Dora figurines to add. Anyway, you still have a chance if you want to send your own:)
Do you have comfy clothes on? If so, come on over from work and we'll leave when you get here. The fact that it gets dark so fast is our only reason for rushing. The kids just enjoy playing while they can still see. Should be a beautiful night!
