Life is not merely a series of meaningless accidents or coincidences, but rather it's a tapestry of events that culminate in an exquisite, sublime plan.
so there i was..poking around my laptop...and low and behold...lookie lookie.. i see at the bottom of my favorite list is my pleonast link.
there it was down at the bottom all dusty looking...clicked on it and found myself here again...funny how that worked
lets see...what is going on in my life since last post....oh ya...
nothing spectacular
lol...
oh well. i guess i dont have spectacular things to report.
we did have a little rain with hurricane Ike. that was fun
club season starts next sunday afternoon. its going to be a long 8 months
***************************
after several complaints about my "lame" post. here is exactly what i did.
Went to Captiva Island for a week with Kelli and her family. (anyone want to hear about that?)
End of season JVDA tounament was in Lousville, KY (anyone want to hear about that?)
Kleinwood singing with 1,300 christians (anyone want to hear about that?)
Laid hardwood floor throughout the first floor of Leslie's new house (anyone want to hear about that?)
Built 2 lower pool side decks beside the pool (anyone want to hear about that?)
Hurricane Ike hit town (anyone want to hear about that?)
Tore down all the drywall, damaged studs, insulation. made repairs, put up all new stuff, and i am taping it and going to paint it this week. then epoxy the floor and install cabinets. (anyone want to hear about that?)
so beside sounding like a DIY show...or ranting, raving volleyball coach. nobody wants to hear about that stuff.
of course...you can say otherwise and i will post all the details about how to install a hardwood floor.
I need a Outside Hitter and/or Right Side to play for a Junior Olympic Volleyball team. Anyone interested let me know.
in other news...a few observations
1. Ever wonder about those people who spend $2.00 apiece on those little bottles of Evian water?
Try spelling Evian backwards: NAIVE
2. Isn't making a smoking section in a restaurant like making a peeing section in a swimming pool?
3. If 4 out of 5 people SUFFER from diarrhea...does that mean that one enjoys it?
4. If a pig loses its voice, is it disgruntled?
5. Why do croûtons come in airtight packages? Aren't they just stale bread to begin with?
6. Why is a person who plays the piano called a pianist but a person who drives a race car is not called a racist?
7. Why isn't the number 11 pronounced onety one?
8. If lawyers are disbarred and clergymen defrocked, doesn't it follow that electricians can be delighted, musicians denoted, cowboys deranged, models deposed, tree surgeons debarked, and dry cleaners depressed?
9. If Fed Ex and UPS were to merge, would they call it Fed UP?
10. Do Lipton Tea employees take coffee breaks?
11. What hair color do they put on the driver's licenses of bald men?
12. If it's true that we are here to help others, then what exactly are the others here for?
13. If a cow laughed, would she spew milk out of her nose?
14. At income tax time, did you ever notice: When you put the two words 'The' and 'IRS' together it spells... 'THEIRS'?
ok...so taking into account the crickets i got so recently a change in direction is needed.
with that in mind...Friday its off to San Antonio for the second stop of the Tour of Texas. it will be a humbling experience for sure...we are way outmatched but o'well we didnt sign up to play for nothing.
so for you that care I will be at UTSA at the Convocation Center on saturday...play for us starts at 9am, then 10am and last match at 12 noon.
in other news...Rachel Holloway as left Nebraska. I wonder if Nebraska can salvage a top 20 ranking by the end of next season with Maggie Griffin graduating and now Rachel leaving the program. kind of hard to play volleyball without a setter, especially when they run a 6-2.
So i have been in a sunday morning class called 'Radical Restoration'. the gist of the class is to look at closely everything we do and believe. question it...examine it...and then with unbiased minds as much as we can come up to conclusions based on scripture about topics concerning the Church.
Now before i go off and talk about some of the things that we discuss. i am bringing these things up to share with all of you. not as a way to cause problems...or to say that because i am making observations about a topic(s) and asking questions that is therefore what i believe on said topic(s). also realizing that most of the audience reading this is of a "young'ish" (basically under 50)nature i dont want to take anyone down dark paths of mental questioning of anyones faith. the point of the class and of these discussions is for us to speak about topics and think clearly about our faith..so that we may claim it as our own and not just based on the findings of our parents because they just said so...or based on the findings of our modern church fathers back in the 50's during the great debates. hopefully we will be able to seperate traditions we as a Church have fallen into and be able to concentrate on the real truth of God's word.
First topic: Lord's Supper.
Looking at this, we might all say its gravy. no problem. 1st day of the week...crackers..grape juice and we are good to go.
but let me ask just a few questions.
What:
What is the Lord's Supper?
Why:
Why do we do this?
so if we read Matt 26 it answers this mostly for us...easy enough
When:
When are we supposed to do this?
again ...Matt 26...Acts 2,20
What:
What are the emblems?
What else is commanded for us to do on the first day of the week?
How:
How are we to partake?
I Cor 11
so now a few hard questions after reading some of the basics and finding answers to those:
1) if a Church were to use white grape juice would it bother you? does it have to be purple? why not use red grapes as it is supposed to remind us of the blood of Christ? does it have to be cold? or warm?
2) if a Church were to not offer the evening communion what would you do if you missed the morning service?
3)is there scripture saying that we may only partake once of the LS? what if we communed twice on the 1st day of the week? what if we offered the LS on other days along with the 1st day of the week?
4) it is 'acceptable' to miss partaking of the LS?
5) is there any other commands that go along with partaking of the LS?
6)what would happen if we didnt sing a song before the LS?
7)what would happen if a Church came together at 9am... had communion then went to classes...then after an hour class sung some songs then the lesson? or what if they only came together at a specific time again say 9 am...had communion then dismissed..came back together at 5 then had classes and a lesson?
8)do we need to pour out the juice into cups in the presence of those partaking as per the example in Matt 26?
9)can a song be sung or scripture be read while the LS is being passed out?
i await your answers...and please remember to supply as much scripture for your answers as you can. again...these things are brought to mind to challenge us that we may find the answers ourselves and strip off the traditions that surround us and sometimes suffocate our faith.
