We made it to Birmingham last night, around 1am, and didn't want to wake you. We had so many delays early on, at least three 30-45 minutes ones and several shorter ones, due to traffic/construction. We wanted to get this far so today would be easier. All is going well. Love you!
Hi! How are you doing there? I bet it is odd not having your neighbors home. How did Daddy ever do it out there in Colo.? Did any of them get an elk? I took the leather horse gun case. We rented one horse just incase we did get something. One night Rudy used the gun case and rode around scouting out some places. I miss you and thought about you and Daddy a lot up on those mountains.
Hi Janice, thinking of you tonight. Hope you're staying busy-it's funny how there is always something that needs attention at home. Will you have any trick or treaters at your door tomorrow? Don't forget to turn your clocks back this weekend!
Oh how the thumb joints ache. We have one rib cage left out of five. Steve shot three and I shot three but could only find two. Wish I could give you and Aleta some of this meat. Love you.
Thanks to all for your good suggestions. Gene went to the store and found something for me. It is a liquid, and you put a few drops on a square of cardboard (which is provided) and place it at the spot where they are coming in. So far it seems to be working. I have seen one or two strays, but I am hopeful that this will take care of the problem. If not. I will try something else.
Hope everyone is enjoying a bit of cooler weather. However, I think it has caused some very tiny critters to move into my kitchen. Yesterday I found a trail of what I call sugar ants in the cabinet where I keep cereal. They were in an open box of cereal, which I had to throw away. This morning when I opened the door of the microwave, they were in there. I thought, I would just zap them. Well I don't know where they went but 2 where still alive and running around. Many years ago, I had a problem with them at my old house, but I can't remember what I did to get rid of them. I would appreciate any suggestions.
We spray ant spray around the outside edge of the house where the house meets the ground. We get a few carpenter ants in the spring, but we have had no problems with little ants for years.
We had these in our house in Houston. Nick was friends with the man that did the pest control at the church building and he gave us little "ant hotels." They basically have stuff in them that the ant thinks is food, so they carry it back to the colony. Once it's in the colony it kills the ants there. The only way to get rid of them is to get to the source either stop them from getting in or kill the colony. I think you can buy some of these hotel things at home depot, but if you could get them from a pest control company they will be better. Next time you see them running around, try watching it to see where it's going instead of just killing it. (I always wanted to kill them, but Nick taught me to watch them.) Then you may discover how and where they're coming in from. Good luck!
Katie is right...I always asked our regular pest people to leave me a good supply because they are a chronic problem there. For a quick fix in the kitchen, a thin trail of dishwashing liquid disrupts their trail and confuses them. Combined with the grocery store hotels it helps.
Katie hit the nail on the head. You have to watch them and see where they are coming from. Then do all the other things. We had them once and I didn't discover them till I saw a piece of my red velvet cake moving. eeew! They will go to sugar or grease and they are tiny little guys. Been there done that so good luck.
As you probably have seen on Aleta's blog, we made it thru the storm with not much damage. I did not loose any trees at my house. I have been thru many hurricanes, but being new to this area and house I didn't know what to expect. They are all very frightening, because they are all different.
Thanks to all for your prayers. There are still many people all along Ike's path who need our prayers. This was one of the bad ones.
Shot guns are heavy, scopeless, and what ever you are usually shooting at with them are going by 90 miles an hr. I e-mailed Kim about a month ago just to see if she was out there. Never heard back.
You're welcome for the scam alert. If a person calls already knowing a lot of my information, it would be tempting to give them a little more! Thank you for praying for Laura.
Mama, I still get the urge to tell Daddy about my hunting experinces. So after I get over being excited about the hunt, I get a little sad. But it's getting easier.
I hope you are boarded up by now so none of that pretty stuff gets damaged. I don't know how close you are but all of Texas is going to get a shot of something from what they say. Love you and are praying for all of our Texans to be safe. Your lots of fun when you get mischevious. Mom has a beautiful house thanks to her kiddo's helping.
It looks really good. I hope you don't have too much debris in the yard. You know all about hurricanes, of course, but they're still scary, aren't they?
