Traveling family. 10-23-08 12:05pm EST
Well, Gene and Aleta left for their trip to Virginis at about 10:30. I am going to miss them.
zanneI know they will miss you too! Wish we were closer so we could visit you!
anneI'm sure they'll have many interesting things to share with you when they return.

THANKSGIVING!!!
squeakyYou'll just have to visit with Pleo pals while they are gone.
nanajammaMaybe we(your pleonast family) can keep you company while they are gone.
aletaWe made it to Birmingham last night, around 1am, and didn't want to wake you. We had so many delays early on, at least three 30-45 minutes ones and several shorter ones, due to traffic/construction. We wanted to get this far so today would be easier. All is going well. Love you!
nanajammaHave a wonderful day tomorrow-worshipping with other christians-a priviledge! WE'll be thinking of you!
nanajammaHave you gotten the cold front yet? WE're going to have record cold temps for the next 2 days!! Time to layer the clothes and enjoy!
anneHi! How are you doing?
anneAre they due home at the end of next week?
split_rockHope you're doing well and keeping a watchful eye on your neighbors' house!
drtundrhrnlsHi! How are you doing there? I bet it is odd not having your neighbors home. How did Daddy ever do it out there in Colo.? Did any of them get an elk? I took the leather horse gun case. We rented one horse just incase we did get something. One night Rudy used the gun case and rode around scouting out some places. I miss you and thought about you and Daddy a lot up on those mountains.
nick_katieHope you are doing well all alone this week! I'm home now and glad I got to be with them up there in NC!
nanajammaHi Janice, thinking of you tonight. Hope you're staying busy-it's funny how there is always something that needs attention at home. Will you have any trick or treaters at your door tomorrow? Don't forget to turn your clocks back this weekend!
nanajammaThat's what Keven says about the time change.
franceshope you are faring well while your chilluns are gone.
aletaThank you, Mom!
drtundrhrnlsOh how the thumb joints ache. We have one rib cage left out of five. Steve shot three and I shot three but could only find two. Wish I could give you and Aleta some of this meat. Love you.
wildpeachemWe are planning to be in Rosenberg on Wed. night and I think Molly will be with us.
anokpreacherThanks Janice - we are excited and doing well! How have you been?

"Ants" continued. 10-14-08 07:26am EST
Thanks to all for your good suggestions. Gene went to the store and found something for me. It is a liquid, and you put a few drops on a square of cardboard (which is provided) and place it at the spot where they are coming in. So far it seems to be working. I have seen one or two strays, but I am hopeful that this will take care of the problem. If not. I will try something else.
skidgetglad it is getting better!

OPEN FOR SUGGESTIONS. 10-08-08 07:22am EST
Hope everyone is enjoying a bit of cooler weather. However, I think it has caused some very tiny critters to move into my kitchen. Yesterday I found a trail of what I call sugar ants in the cabinet where I keep cereal. They were in an open box of cereal, which I had to throw away. This morning when I opened the door of the microwave, they were in there. I thought, I would just zap them. Well I don't know where they went but 2 where still alive and running around. Many years ago, I had a problem with them at my old house, but I can't remember what I did to get rid of them. I would appreciate any suggestions.
aletaYou can get some boric acid and place it in a lid. Mix something sweet in it, like sugar, or a little syrup, to draw them in.
anitajWe spray ant spray around the outside edge of the house where the house meets the ground. We get a few carpenter ants in the spring, but we have had no problems with little ants for years.
nick_katieWe had these in our house in Houston. Nick was friends with the man that did the pest control at the church building and he gave us little "ant hotels." They basically have stuff in them that the ant thinks is food, so they carry it back to the colony. Once it's in the colony it kills the ants there. The only way to get rid of them is to get to the source either stop them from getting in or kill the colony. I think you can buy some of these hotel things at home depot, but if you could get them from a pest control company they will be better. Next time you see them running around, try watching it to see where it's going instead of just killing it. (I always wanted to kill them, but Nick taught me to watch them.) Then you may discover how and where they're coming in from. Good luck!
wildpeachemKatie is right...I always asked our regular pest people to leave me a good supply because they are a chronic problem there. For a quick fix in the kitchen, a thin trail of dishwashing liquid disrupts their trail and confuses them. Combined with the grocery store hotels it helps.
squeakyKatie hit the nail on the head. You have to watch them and see where they are coming from. Then do all the other things. We had them once and I didn't discover them till I saw a piece of my red velvet cake moving. eeew! They will go to sugar or grease and they are tiny little guys. Been there done that so good luck.
anneMe too. How are the ants doing?

After Ike 09-16-08 07:21am EST
As you probably have seen on Aleta's blog, we made it thru the storm with not much damage. I did not loose any trees at my house. I have been thru many hurricanes, but being new to this area and house I didn't know what to expect. They are all very frightening, because they are all different.

Thanks to all for your prayers. There are still many people all along Ike's path who need our prayers. This was one of the bad ones.
missyI'm glad you made it through just fine!
anneIt was a relief to us to hear ya'll had made it through safely.
zanneThat is so true. Just b/c you've weathered a hurricane doesn't mean you'll be totally prepared for the next. I'm very glad you all are safe. Love you!
ewalkerI like your new picture!

Glad you didn't have any damage.
squeakyI'm so glad your next to Aleta, it makes things a little better having company.
alp1926Glad you're all safe.
aletaI can keep an eye on you better now that that tree is down! LOL!
nanajammaYou're so right!! I'm happy to see you have so many loved ones looking out for you! Have a wonderful evening.
nick_katieI wonder how your old house is? I heard the damage on that side of town is worse. Glad y'all are ok.
wildpeachemIt's good to read your own words about how you are doing. I'm glad things are getting a little more normal there.
anneWhat a pretty picture ^ !!
split_rockLove the new picture! Glad you made it through the hurricane relatively unscathed!
drtundrhrnlsShot guns are heavy, scopeless, and what ever you are usually shooting at with them are going by 90 miles an hr. I e-mailed Kim about a month ago just to see if she was out there. Never heard back.
anneYou're welcome for the scam alert. If a person calls already knowing a lot of my information, it would be tempting to give them a little more! Thank you for praying for Laura.
drtundrhrnlsMama, I still get the urge to tell Daddy about my hunting experinces. So after I get over being excited about the hunt, I get a little sad. But it's getting easier.
zanneThat's a neat idea!
carryann2thank you for my birthday card and money grandma! miss you and love you!

New furniture needs a new post 09-11-08 10:06pm EST
Isn't Mom's China cabinet pretty?

Photobucket

And I love her new dinette set in the breakfast nook!
Photobucket

Yes, this is Aleta! and I sabotaged Mom's blog! She needed a new post and I'm tired of thinking of hurricanes! Being mischevious is much more fun!
anneVery nice!
skidgetI like it :-)
lisakayeLooks good!!! Stay safe and dry!
anitajAn oil painting in the dining room makes it look even fancier. I also like the corner hutch and shelves in the nook.
drtundrhrnlsHave you boarded anything up? Are you fleeing to higher ground? Your dinette set is beautiful!
squeakyI hope you are boarded up by now so none of that pretty stuff gets damaged. I don't know how close you are but all of Texas is going to get a shot of something from what they say. Love you and are praying for all of our Texans to be safe. Your lots of fun when you get mischevious. Mom has a beautiful house thanks to her kiddo's helping.
sherelynVery pretty! Hope all goes well with you. We're staying put, too.
drtundrhrnlsGlad you will be with Aleta and Gene.
sureshot79I love the new furniture! I like the red in your house- it's very cheerful. Do you brave the hurricane well?
nick_katieLooks great, grandma. I just knew y'all could find something on craigs list! Hope you get your power back soon!
drtundrhrnlsThankful you made it through this!! Wish I could come and help spruce up the yards. Love you too!
wildpeachemIt looks really good. I hope you don't have too much debris in the yard. You know all about hurricanes, of course, but they're still scary, aren't they?
violetbeautiful! This is Courtney from church
