Pull ups 08-22-08 02:11pm EST
Here at work we installed this make-shift pull up bar. It is great, and only two of us use it. I also have a VKR machine at home and to them there everyonce in a while. I am now able to do 10 pull ups. I never thought I would see the day. These are not the girly underhand grip type either. They are the normal overhand type.

How many can you do, and when is the last time you tried?

Gotta go do my next set.

Jake
crazy_mamaOK you can tell I'm a stay at home mom cause when I saw your title I thought you were talking about Huggies Pull Ups for Potty Training. I have potty training on the mind!!!
tamiI thought the same thing! LOL
nthnswmnI've been looking for an at home pull up bar that can be installed in the doorway for my husband...
I don't think I could even do one, to be honest.
wardOverhand? Not nearly as many as I can do girly-style. Underhand? Not nearly as many as I should be able to do.
charliesangeljust wanted to say i really appreciated your comments on heather's blog about homosexuality. we are all sinners, and as christians, it seems easy to pick on the more "obvious" sinner, if you will. but, we are all the same. great thoughts!
lydiasmotherI was going to say the same as the ^^^ above thanks for the thoughts!
lydiasmotherwe share some of the same friends--do i know you?
lydiasmotherI went to FC in 92 I go to TT now, and I might know you if you did attend there when you were here. Anywho-- I might know ya if I saw a pic or something. but, I grew up with Clint Dean and since I am older then him I knew him most of his life till I left Cleveland to come to Florida. Erin Barger is my brothers sisterin law, so we share some friends. And now we can be friends ourself? And I am a Packer fan are you?
misssonjaIt is truly nice to meet you and I genuinely *thank you* for the kindness of spirit you are demonstrating in our discussion over on Heather's post. Because of our conversation, I actually determined last night to renounce another product, one which is hard for me, in order to be consistent in my personal message. (Thanks a lot -- not! :) Ha ha!) Let's just say I'll be drinking more water, which not only sends a message to another company/our culture, but has health benefits as well. Since you are to blame, you really should pray for anyone who has to tolerate me while I withdraw!!! :)
misssonjaPS -- In case you're wondering why I made reference to "us ladies" (!), I initially misread your comment and thought you said your husband's name was Jake. Sorry about that, *Mr* Jake D -- my eyes are crossed after too little sleep last night!
lydiasmotherDavid is in the service? yes, he just left to go back on friday, he was here for a 2 week visit. I would like to get in touch with CLint for him to possibly invite(if he knows of a church nearby where my family lives in chicago) for them to send them an invite or something of that nature to invite them to a cong. near where they live. they are not new test. christians but I would like them to at least be invited ya know?
lydiasmotherYup then! None of the church family knew he was coming home, and I looked over to where they normally sit and I saw him walking down the isle at evening service, tears welled up in my eyes, so happy to see him home only for a short time. It is so hard, but we take care of her. My fam. lives in bloomington I have no idea how close or far that is to anything, I don't know of a church near by thier home, do you? or clint? thanks
lydiasmotherhey are you all coming to disney in oct? and did you ever find out anything about that goofys candy shop party thing? thanks
lydiasmotherhumm i only live 45 min from there. we are going in sept. we are going for Lydia's 3 b-day we are going to eat at crystal palace have you eated there, out of all the times we have been we have never eaten there.
julievI don't know you, but I've been quietly following the discussion on Heather's blog. I just wanted to say thank you for your most recent comments about when is a Christian responsible for sin. I've been having trouble getting my brain fully around this topic and your post helped me see it a little more clearly and succinctly. Thanks!
goonieI don't remember the last time I tried a pull up, either type. Perhaps I should add that to my regimen.
pollymhHey there! Cute kids. I can't believe you have three now. No way could I even do one real pull-up. Impressive.

James 1:27 08-16-08 10:08pm EST
I am looking for some opinions on this verse as far as the widows and orphans. Let me know what you believe this verse is taching about them. What should we be doing to fulfil this passage? Thanks,
Jake
sarWe just had a study on this, you should know all there is to know.
sarDid you say you guys are going to Crystal Palace for breakfast one day? If so what day is it?
curlieWe should be doing what we can to help them in their distress. For us, that includes seeking out those needs. We hope to help those who adopt as well as adopt ourselves. As far as the widows, we help those who are widows/widowers in our own families and congregation, and when needs arise elsewhere, we try to help with those as well.

While the circumstances of orphans and widows are not as dire as they were in the first century, these are still people who are ignored, shuffled about (in the case of children in foster care), and taken advantage of (the stereotype of the elderly woman being taken in by some scam exists for a reason, unfortunately).
sarI just found the thing about making your own light sabers and the boys are SO excited!
trishiePart of the reason that my parents went into the foster care program was to fulfill their duties in this passage. They have also at times taken in widows who needed care. I know that personally I can do more to help. I think that the emphaasis is on extra care for the widows and orphans because they are some of the most vulnerable people. I don't think that everyone has to adopt or take in widows, the passage says to visit them in their afflictions. I think that for sure we need to visit, send cards and call the older people, especially those in our congregations. Keep in touch with them and let them know they are missed when they are unable to attend services or gatherings. For the children, or orphans, I think it is good to adopt if given the chance, especially considering the wealth of American Christians. My mother sees it as a way to not only help the orphans in their afflictions, but also to bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. We eventually intend to adopt because of my parents example and reasoning. Sorry that this is so long. I hope that it makes sense.
godswarrior32803The word visit does not mean stop in and say hi. Nor does it mean send a card or call them. It is providing for their daily needs. (Think about Acts 6). Whatever it means for one, it means for the other.
trishieI don't mean that all we have to do is stop in a nd say hi. I agree that we should be concerned with their daily physical and spiritual needs. Go shopping for them, read the scriptures with them, pray with them. There is so much that we can do.
skinnsWhat ever it is, it doesn't mean that the church should help them with their funds that we have collected for the needy saints in Jerusalem. Or rather the funds that just sit in a bank account.
bravedave I'm not sure if you're asking regarding some of the debate surrounding the text or just the practical aspect. Regarding the practical aspect, Acts 15:36 and Heb. 2:6 are a couple "cross references" regarding what "visit." Like several have commented-- to supply what is missing. With social security, retirement, pensions, etc it may often "simply" be the need to "drop in" and fill the "social" void that they lack without their loved one(s). I can tell you that in the Philippines, having both orphans and widows in severe need is not so rare. I know of a family of 7 children who were orphaned. Several American brethren have/continue to help provide funds for those who care for them. I imagine that other 3rd world countries face the same. If this isn't the angle you were asking about... sorry.
bravedaveI think the suggestion to pray, even sing, some with them is good.

Here is an update 08-04-08 12:58pm EST
Well it has been a while. Not that there has been much going on, just too much going on. This has been a great summer so far and we have more great things coming up. We have not been able to go to a Brewers game yet due to our schedule (they didn’t check with us first to see when we could make it) and the scarcity of tickets. I just can’t justify spending way above face to go see a game. For seats on the second level it would run around $150-$200 just to get the family in the door. At least hockey season is only 2 months away.

T-ball was good this year. The first two weeks were tough with practice. Getting 10-13 four and five year olds on the same page and kept occupied for an hour, but after that the games were great. The kids really learned a lot and started to look good. I will be coaching again next year.

Josiah officially can ride a bike now. It is fun to see him ride it around the driveway. He is also doing well with his ice skating. He is much better when we go by ourselves than in his class. They grow up so fast.

Caleb is a daredevil. I question his ability to feel pain. He acts then thinks of the possible dangers. But when a fall happens he laughs it off. I have taken him skating as well. He is a very fast learner and at two can scoot along by himself fairly well.

Caitlyn is able to get whatever she wants with the smile she has. She too is a risk taker (learns from her brothers). We have to keep a close eye on her. By far, she is the happiest of the bunch. They are all fun happy children, but she is always happy.

This week we will be headed to Bloomington MN for the pez convention. I will be selling and buying there and Jaime will be hanging out at the Mall of America. I am very excited about this trip and look forward to it every year. I suppose most people think this would be boring, but you would be sadly mistaken. Pez are the best little plastic candy holders in the world.

Then when we get back we will only be two months away from our FL trip. This will be our longest vacation we have ever taken. We will be there for 13 days. Josiah and Caleb will have their 5 and 3 year B-day party while we are down there. Fun, fun, fun.

That’s about it.

Jake
carawatsonfranklinHave fun on your trip this week! The Florida trip sounds like lots of fun!!
gkbakerHave fun. I think of you everytime I see pez dispensers.
curlieMe too.

Have a great time!

This is the problem with Government and handouts. 06-24-08 02:08pm EST
Here is a quote from an article in our wonderful Milwaukee Journal (the local paper).

"Last week, Gov. Jim Doyle announced that seven Wisconsin counties, including Milwaukee, had become eligible for disaster FoodShare benefits, a federally funded program that offers a month's worth of food stamps to residents who incur damage in a declared disaster and fall below an income threshold. For example, a family of four earning $2,295 this month could get a food voucher worth up to $542. Aid is provided within about seven days, according to the county.

Federal rules do not require applicants to provide proof of either flood damage or income, according to state Department of Health and Family Services Secretary Karen Timberlake. However, residents can be prosecuted for falsifying an application."

There is so much wrong with this. Over the past two days there have been floods of people (pun intended) waiting in line for many hours (on a work day) to fill out these applications. Of course taxpayers also had to supply the police to keep things in order because of the fights. Anyway... Who is in charge of doing the checks to potentially prosecute those who lie about their damage or income level and need for assistance? Nobody! Here is the government once again giving out money and not even trying to ask questions. A few lies and they hand over $500 + of our money. Disgusting! We have to do things better. When politicians keep promising more and more to those who do less and less it causes me great concern for the future. Everyday it is more tempting to trade this job in for a government one (the one where I have to walk to my mailbox to “earn” my check).

Thanks, I needed to get that off my chest.

trishieOh, I hate things like this. All it does is teach irresponsibility.
tamerten98All I can say is work harder millions on welfare depend on you!
sponjenUgg. That is so depressing. What is the world is going to happen to America anyway?
sarJake, I was watching a clip on the news about this, they were showing the long lines of people. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I was sure I saw you standing in that line. You were easy to see, I wonder why.
jdiemanI wish. We were talking about going but I had to work.
sarSeriously Jake, you don't have to make up a work excuse, it looked just like you. Are you sure it wasn't you?
tamerten98Sure why not, but you might want to consider working like 2 extra jobs just one more would be completely lazy!
bethebooI can't think of anything that would make it worse
create_a_wayBro, give us some advance notice before you come so we can plan some time for you!
gkbakerThis is such a sore subject with me. I work at Walmart as a cashier and see how people waste food stamp money. It really makes me mad. For instance, did you know with food stamps, you can purhcase a decorated sheet cake for your child's birthday at a cost of $25 and up. A box of Duncan Hines cake mix and some eggs costs maybe $4. People are using food stamps, but always have wads of cash for things like DVDs, Cd's, cigartettes, and alcohol. I could go on and on.
tamerten98I am just tired of laying down and taking the abuse. It gets very lonely and when I do fight I have been fighting all by myself. I am very discouraged right now.
joelol, good call!
joedon't hate me cause i was a beautiful baby...
sarWhat's the name of the website for the rental car again?
zanneHa,ha! I think it is pretty mixed. Some are excited to have "the Favre". Others are upset about what it will do to garcia. Others don't think he will be able to run the Bucs offense. We'l see. I don't think anything will help them ;-0
sarWe are probably going to be driving, we just decided. We will leave earlier and come home a day or so later so that the drive will not cut into our time at WDW.

T-ball coach 06-16-08 03:01pm EST
I am now a T-ball coach. Our first practice is tomorrow night. The plan was to make the first cuts then until I was informed everybody has to play. I hope they are good enough or those 4 and 5 year olds will be doing laps. There are even girls on the team. Imagine that, girls playing sports! But really, it should be fun and challenging. My goal it to have the kids hit the ball and run to first consistently. If that happens I will count it as a success. There are only 6 weeks, with 3 practice and another 3 games. It will be fun watching 13 kids all run for 1 ball.
littlediemanJaime better take pictures of you coaching little kiddos - I've gotta see that.
joeniiiice congratz!
curlieOooh.. have fun! Any chance we'll see you guys while we're in Rapids? We'll be there July 12-13.
carawatsonfranklinDean was a soccer coach for Grace's team last fall. We had 12 3&4 year olds. It was so much!! Have fun!!
zanneYou are one good guy! I don't think I could coach kids that young. And I resent the girls playomg sports comment!! ;-0
sonofjcYou are so awesome! I am thankful for you!
trishieHave fun! I loved watching my neice and nephew when they first started T-Ball. It is so funny to see the whole team chase the ball and sometimes fight over it as the other team is scoring runs!
callmehandsCoach Dieman...nice! I hope you live up to the name...you'll have those kids running out of the park!
navydocHard core man. Make'em run till they puke! haha, j/k.
bravedave"The plan. .. first cuts." I'm picturing you walking over to a 4 yr old girl, putting your arm on her shoulder (or maybe you can't do that these days) and saying "I'm sorry but you just don't have what it takes to make it. Your off." And as you walk away, you are muttering under your breath about Title IX. haha
ticketsRockin' Roller coaster ride! :o) Awesome!
trishieThanks for the prayers!
