Well Nathan seems to be doing somewhat better...seems he does better on the days I don't let him out of bed... The doc prescribed Vicodin for him which seems to take the edge off...for now anyway.
Not much else to report....except "Two more days 'til TWILIGHT!!!!!!!!!!" WHOOHOO!!!
LOL!!!!!! Your remark was hilarious!
Hope Nathan is all well, by now.
Geri Stout and I are going to the midnight showing,in Bryan. It is at the Premiere 16.
Nathan is still recovering...today has not been very easy on him; his throat pain seems to be getting worse (the Dr.s warned me that days 3-5 would be the worst as far as that goes)
and he's been grumpy that he cannot have any 'real' food.
We've had a minor setback with his pain medication; seems he has a sensitivity to Codeine (just like me, his great grandma and his grandpa - both on Wess' side) so the Dr. said to stop giving it too him. We are attempting to control pain with plain Tylenol which seems to be working, but the Codeine has him very nauseated when he tries to eat anything or drinks too much.
After this is all over he may never eat pudding, jello or popsicles ever again. He keeps begging for fried chicken and pizza. He's getting sick of Mac and Cheese and Spagettios too! He won't eat things like mashed potatoes or oatmeal so our options are limited...if you have any ideas about soft mushy foods I haven't listed, please let me know (we still have about 5 days to go!)
He's been really drugged up because of the codeine and at the moment is asleep. Even little trips to the bathroom (10 feet away) seem to tire him.
He told me having his tonsils out was a bad idea! I reassured him that at least he'll never have to go through this again!
Thanks again for your prayers and thoughts! I'll update later on.
TTFN
when i had my wisdom teeth out i ate pudding, jello, applesauce, garlic breadsticks from fazolis, baked potato and smoothies. does he like any kind of veggies? canned mandarin oranges are pretty soft, too - i buy the kind that are packed in juice not syrup. maybe some pancakes?
ohhh, carnation instant breakfast! (Or pediasure, etc.) that's good! -He actually hates bananas, applesauce and any kind of potatos...weird I know; those are most kids' favorites! Thanks for the ideas though...babyfood....we might give that a shot too!
i was also thinking - maybe not the "healthiest" food for every meal, but a mcdonald's kid's burger in tiny pieces would be easy to chew and swallow! :)
Carnation Instant Breakfast and other random chocolate shake meals got me though getting my wisdom teeth out -- and chicken noodle soup - crackers are soft after you let them get mushy in soup :)
I'm so happy the whole 'surgery' thing is over with! He came through it just fine. The first thing he asked the nurse was to see his tonsils! Forget mom...he wanted his tonsils!
He's still a bit groggy...he's had a little trouble connecting events from before after and such... otherwise fine!
He's saying he's well enough to get up and play, etc. - I keep having to explain that Dr.s orders say not a chance...today anyhow.
Thanks for your prayers... my nerves weren't as bad as I thought they'd be either!
Glad it is over! We were having to keep Kaitlyn from doing things like jumping off the couch, at first. The third or fourth day, she had the pain and decided she wished she hadn't had the surgery.
My children are in the process of watching 'The Wizard of Oz' for the very first time... they are mesmerized! I really thought they wouldn't be able to sit through it, but they have...even what Nathan calls the 'gray part'!
Thanks for the prayers and encouragement. Even the E.N.T. (a mom of 2) said she was a nervous wreck when her child was in the O R.
In other news.. I've joined the Twilight fans... that book is SO awesome, and like you I have a very hard time putting it down. I've forced myself to take a break right now...though I should finish, because both Scott and Wess are waiting on it. Funny thing is, I'm hearing as good reviews from the guys I know who are reading it as the girls! I'd have pegged it as kind of a chick-flick..or...book. Anyway. Awesome stuff!
Yes...this was a lame excuse for a post, but I get tired of looking at one too long.
I am excited for the Twilight movie too! I was not able to stop reading it. I have to get the next one. My advice, get the next one while you are reading this one. There will be no lapse.
Of course, you know, our library has no movies to check out ... I'll have to go to Houston or College Station now. I hadn't thought about that (I'll try free before I rent it.)
Nathan has had a couple rough nights though; Saturday night he screamed most of the night/early morning hours with ear pain and last night he was kept from restful sleep (as was I) by his sleep apnea.
So this afternoon I took him to his E N T (again) and explained that even though he looks fine, a well child does not scream through the night with pain whether the ER docs found an infection or not... not to mention the trouble the poor little guy has breathing while asleep.
Well his Dr. agreed with me that his constant symptoms were abnormal (in fact she greeted me by saying "This is the third time you've been here in 3 months!") and when she added up that he has had 6 ear infections (two really bad ones) in less than a year she agreed some sort of action was necessary.
So while we went down to audiology, she conferred with one of the other Dr.s in the office. Come to find out there was definitely fluid behind both ears, but as with Nathan's other 6 ear infections, there was no fever. They FINALLY figured out why!!!
- His adenoids won't allow his tubes from his ears to drain because it and his tonsils are chronically enlarged. He hasn't really been having infections caused by bacteria or viruses (hence no fever) and that's also why the antibiotics they've been pumping him with for the last few months have not had any lasting effect - the fluid back up has been caused by swollen (but not infected) adenoids.-
Now the bad news: This Friday (AM) he has to go in for triple surgery (Tubes for both ears, and removal of both tonsils and adenoids)
I'm SO nervous!!! He doesn't know yet; he's a worry wart and will get overly anxious about the surgery...the doc said not to tell him until the morning of, so I'm not. We are in for a rough 7 days following the procedure (not to mention my anxiety over it all) so I'd really appreciate it if you all would keep him in your prayers.
If this works, not only will his headaches and ear pain/hearing loss go away, but he will be able to get a full night's rest and might even calm down some (he's kinda high strung for those of you who haven't spent alot of time with us)
His Dr just said it all finally fit together, and while I'm a nervous wreck about my baby going under the knife, I'm glad we might be able to fix all of his problems (perhaps with one four hour surgery!)
I am so glad they finally figured something out!!!!! Children don't just keep having ear infections unless there is something wrong (especially when they are homeschooled and not subject to the vast number of viruses clinging over many surfaces all over the classroom! -just kidding, I think!)
Colton had tubes in and adnoids out in March. He has had ONE ear infection since and I don't have to talk to him like he is an old man anymore. It is wonderful. You will be soo relieved after it is done!!
Rebekah had hers out when she was 11. It is harder on them when they are older, so the younger it happens, the better. She did fine... The pain meds. were great! She slept for the first couple of days, through the worst of it. ICEEs are the best thing!!!
I'm glad the problem was finally figured out! I would have been so mad at my mom though if she ever didn't tell me I was having surgery, but I wasn't the worry type I just like to prepare mentally for stuff.
