My first hairbow gig.... 08-26-08 07:53pm EST

I have this posted to my Bows blog, but I thought that a few of you would also love to read and laugh as well. Happy reading!

Saturday Market is held in downtown Augusta, GA, at 8th Street and the River (Savannah River). August 9, 2008 was Kids Day, so I took this as my opportunity to setup my booth and sell some hairbows!

Of course, if you know my husband and I you know that there is an adventure with every outing that we attempt, and this Saturday was no exception. So Friday evening, I was supposed to have everything packed up and broken down, so that when my husband arrived home from work we could discuss whether I had overlooked anything or whatever.... Well, he got home and I was still making bows... and realized just before he arrived that I hadn't even eaten dinner yet--it was now about 9 pm.

So, he talked me into getting out for a moment and grabbing a bite to eat. We went through the Arby's drive-through and ate at home. We then decided to watch a bit of tv (like this was a smart idea!). So at about 10:15 pm, we decided to pack up the booth. Boy, we had that thing packed up in no time!

We talked about what time would be adequate time for us to get ready the next morning, and since the Saturday Market officially opens at 8 am, we decided that we would need to get up at 4:30 am so that we would have plenty of time to load the truck and get out there to setup. My husband set his alarm for 4:30. Well, I took a shower before bed and finally got into bed at midnight (and didn't sleep well all night... nervous I guess...).

Well.... I woke up and felt like I had gotten more than 4.5 hours of sleep... I rolled over and looked at my clock... it was 5:55 am! I started yelling and we hit the ground running! I just knew that there would be no way for us to make it out in time to setup the booth before 8 am. (We later realized that he set his alarm for 4:30 pm.... nice, hunh?)

We were speedily getting ready and loading the truck. Believe it or not, but I dried and straightened my hair and finished getting ready in 20 minutes! We arrived downtown at about 6:45 am, setup the booth, and priced most all of the items by 8 am. We had done it... and then we waited.

And we waited. It was somewhat of a slow go, but traffic picked up and soon we had covered the cost of the booth for day. And soon we were seeing a profit! The market hours were from 8 am to 12 pm. We started packing up the booth at around 1 pm because there were still people out and about.

I am so happy that my first hairbow gig was a success. I plan to setup again on October 18 for the special Fall Day. If your around, come see me!

looks like a great booth! glad you made some $$! and just fyi, he has been known to set alarms incorrectly in the past (most notably on one of his final exam days at UA!).

denisemccaskill

Wow..that's insane!! Glad things went well though!! I'll probably be in the same kind of panic when I do the Sassafras festival in October. I'm already panicking and having nightmares!!

Great looking booth. The girls Volleyball team loved their hairbows. They were beautiful.

rosycheeks

I've been busy... Like I said earlier... 06-12-08 10:06pm EST

So, here is what I've been working on. I know. You are all so excited that you just cannot stand it. No, really, this is my financial and time investment. This is my future.

Just in case you don't know what it is, this is my Prissy Sissy Bows craft show booth. This lovely monstrosity will be popping up all over Aiken and Augusta, at every little chance it gets.

So, anyway, now you know. ♥J

And, I'm looking for investors.

andtheking

I am going to try to call you Thursday. I forgot to tell you that Stacia wanted the small 2 and half inch bow to have a small knot in the middle. Talk to you soon.

I'm still around... I've just been busy. Now, don't worry about me, I've got plans for a new post, so you should hear from me again soon!

jake28

Y'all will have to plan a trip up to KY. We'll be living close to Ft. Knox, Mammoth Cave and Abraham Lincoln sites, so plenty to see and do. :)

smallfry79

Yeah, I was thinking you fell off the face of the planet. :-) Good to hear from you.

bama_amy

nice easter egg! my mom is doing better now. still not 100%, but they are working on it (w/meds, treatment, etc.).

denisemccaskill

Looks like it is the right one..Thanks! I've never heard of it before but I will definitely tell him about so he can take a look. He's filling out apps for everything he possibly can trying to find something...

apprell

I looked on the website again for Jamie but I couldn't find any jobs that were at vogtle. Most of them are for plants in Alabama...Sigh..

apprell

Just wanted to say.. I had fun on our excursion Sunday night :)

bama_amy

actually we aren't staying on site. i got an excellent deal on hotwire for a hotel just a few miles from disney. i've stayed both on and off site, and definitely prefer on-site, but we figured we aren't going to be there but long enough to sleep! i am hoping that this trip will go awesomely well and that i can persuade him to go back with me in the fall and stay on site. so, to make a long story short - no meal plan.

bama_amy

i used to go to disney with my family a lot growing up (my mom got free tickets for working at the disney store). i loved the prime time cafe and the sci-fi theater place. i am just trying to figure out what would be good to take jim to (he's never been to mgm/hollywood studios or animal kingdom). so much planning to do.

Happy Valentine's Day! 02-15-08 06:53am EST

So yesterday was Valentine's Day... nothing much exciting went on around here. I got Jer a card and some dark chocolates (and yes, dark chocolate is allowed on his diet). So you ask what did he get me???

Well, first let me say that we ate Lasagna and salad for dinner. The house is a mess because we are so busy and tired during the week to clean. We have dirty clothes that are piled up to be washed and clean clothes that are piled up to be folded and put away. I have ribbon taking over the house, I just wish that it would pay for itself a little faster.... Let's see what else I can ramble about.... I saw a vday card yesterday that was for a sister. It said on the front "Happy Valentine's day to the world's greatest sister" and on the inside it said "can you pass this along to her when you find her?" I thought this was too funny! I almost bought it for my sister! Well, I guess that I have left you in suspense for long enough.....

I got tickets to the CIRCUS! I am so excited! It has been forever since I have been to the circus. Our seats are on the floor, so we will be really up close to the action.

So, we go tonight. I am going to try to leave work early enough for us to go to Outback to eat (craving an Outback baked potato, yumm) and then we are off to the circus-- no, not joining the circus, off to the circus!

I'll try to update to let you know how it goes!!! I can't wait!

*****************************************UPDATE!!!

Ok, so you never get too old for the circus! or cotton candy!

We had so much fun! Our seats were on the floor, we were about 20 feet from the elephants that could trample or roll over at any moment. Our biggest question to each other was, "which way are you running if the elephants get loose???" My response was whichever way the elephant is not.

Clowns are funny. Little bicycles are funny, too. Jugglers are amazing.... I'll try to upload pics to my flickr account for all to see soon.

I recommend going to the circus the next chance you get.

Ask about the price of cotton candy before you hand over your $10 bill.... there may be a chance that there will be no change back.... instead you get a corny foam hat with your cotton candy. no kidding. Every bite cost us about 50 cents. It was the best cotton candy I've ever eaten (of course for that price, it should have been covered in gold).

But anyway, go to the circus. It's fun!

*****************************************UPDATE!!!

I've got picks uploaded to my Flickr account: http://www.flickr.com/photos/prissysissybows/.

Yay!!! Have lots of fun!!! Eat some house salad for me. When I was in the worse of my "morning sickness" I kept craving a house salad from Outback w/ honey mustard. It got so bad that my sweet husband went and got curbside take out for one salad and pink lemonaide with no ice...

I think I really want a girl too, and everyone including me thinks its a girl so I guess we will be really surprised when in a few weeks they say "Its a BOY" :) :) :)

andtheking

have fun!

jake28

wow! circus tickets! i knew deep down jer was a romantic at heart. :) hope y'all enjoy it!

denisemccaskill

Oops..sorry I need to go in and change the music. I didn't realize it was still on there after I made it.

bama_amy

that sounds like fun! have a good time!

smallfry79

Haha...well, the whole deli turkey thing just made him realize that he needed to chew things up more than usual. It didn't make him think he couldn't eat. He had been on a liquid diet for over a week, so he was dying for some real food. It hasn't happend again, so I guess he's a quick learner. :-)

apprell

I hope you had lots and lots of fun!!! I think we are going to Columbia on Sunday so we won't be there, but make sure if Jeremy's doing announcements that you step in for me and give the praise report. :)

denisemccaskill

If I could figure out how to turn off the music I would :)..I'm still working on it! I'll try to turn it off I promise.. Glad you had so much fun! We want to take Kylie and Logan to the circus one day.

apprell

I'm glad you had fun...:) :) :)

andtheking

we did, and he did....we went to mobile :)

bama_amy

that sounds like a blast! too bad we can't come to your house to play it with you guys!
